was about to say the same damn thing. I mean what the fuck these people even here for.... we UK we had a mad minute with Gangstarr and Guru in 87.. Preemo vexed because his turntables was jumping... they was on wallpapering tables. My crew held the stage with them I'll try and dig out the pictures
Word! Rip brother Guru, one of the Illest Mcs of all time!!! Gangstarr been one of my faves ever since I heard, words I manifest, who's gonna take the weight!?!
I think Manifest kind of overshadowed this one. When I think of Gang Starr when they first came out, I always forget this joint. Think it was their second single after Mannifest.
I met him in Lagos, Nigeria, years ago. I sat with him, drank and said to myself, "this is Guru wow". I knew the promoter dat brought him to Lagos. R.I.P Guru.
When this came out, Hip-Hop was mainly on that positive, pro-Black vibe (late 80s- early 90s), but Gangsta rap was starting to snowball down the mountain...
Guru's ability to paint a visual picture of where he we're in imagination and just being able to bring that of what he imagined to the front of his mind and make it come to life and make you dance to it and connect people of all cultures and ethnicities was amazing I really think that I'm a dope emcee myself but I'm not anywhere near as dope as guru and that was something I recognized when he was alive rest in heavenly beats guru😇😇😇😇😇😇😇
That damn horn helps to turn this track out..I've NEVER forgotten it! To this day I'm still disappointed that the album version doesn't sound like this!
This is the true meaning of Hip Hop! Positivity and Love is the answer! True Hip Hop is timeless. Thx to the pioneers and fathers of Hip Hop. I appreciate it. Love, Peace, Happiness & safely having fun!!! R.I.P. GURU, you are missing!!!
In the words of KRS-One "Rappers spit lines that are mostly illegal. Emcees spit rhymes to uplift their people." Therefore Guru was the ultimate MC. RIP
I remember when the vid dropped...remember u follow the music, the lyrics become a part of the spirit, remember the art was made to teach....teenagers of the late 80s and 90s...we were walking with God.
I'll never forget saying who is this guy when I first saw this video in 88 years later he started ripping up the airwaves and became one of my favorite rappers of all time of his unique style rest in peace guru.

I was 13 when i wud watch this type of music on t.v. I gained so much love and respect for melanated rich folks..i always wanted an african cane and bust dance moves with it. Peace!
Check out Skyzoo, probably the best all-around rapper thats from the new era. Noone will ever touch gangstarr but on an individual level, skyzoo has incredible talent. The next best lyricist after the previous greats have slowly started to retire or otherwise step away like biggie, nas, jay-z, big daddy kane, kool g rap, etc. Skyzoo has an amazing flow, delivery and presence on the mic like that of jay-z or big daddy kane. His rhyme schemes and patterns are on par with that of Nas or KGR, and even though he doesn't use as many multiple syllable or multiple word rhymes in his songs, he uses some mixed with some of the best wordplay/double entongras used in the game today. Another plus for him is his versatility, as Sky shines ridiculously bright on a multitude of different style songs, from bragadossis, story telling, back and forth (duo), fast-paced, slower-paced, coming of age, party-themed, abstract-based, etc.. There is not a type of song that this man cannot just thoroughly destroy...well except a garbage trap track, although he probably could but who would want to hear that kind of trash music when there's so much good music out there. Hit me up with any questions at all.
RIP Guru! If this guy isn't in your top 5 you clearly don't listen to hip hop for lyrics. My top 5: 1. K-Rino/2. Kool G Rap/ 3. Big Daddy Kane/ 4. Rakim/ 5. Guru
Hell yea man!!!I first heard of him on Gangsta Nips first album ,the south park psycho ,hes on a song called rough brothers from south park ..plus i really like that joint "the worst rapper alive" he went off on that..I love great lyrics ,im not one of those east coast dudes that dont wanna give props cause an mc aint from the nyc ,nj area ..although i am from that area..peace fam

Why can’t we have this type of love and camaraderie now in rap. Now it’s a dangerous game where people get shot left and right.
Positive vibes only💯
I love the intro of the music
Rhythm guitar with chorus and echo, sax, dope lyrics and scratching - what a combo!?
BTW did the LP version have the sax in it? I can't remember.
