    Does it hurt to put rashing rings and copper mest in a still that isn't a reflux still.

    do you have to wash the mesh in anything after its cleaned with citric acid?

      I usually just rinse the mesh off with water before putting it back into the column.

    if you only use the rings how many gal per 1lb of rings?

      The amount of wash you are boiling doesn't really relate to the amount of rachig rings you need. You need enough raschig rings to get the purity that you are looking for. If you aren't getting enough purity you need more, if you are getting to clean of a product you can remove some on the next run.

    I heard you can use copper pennies from before 1980 is this true?

      Actually 1981 and before is safe.
      In 1982 they began the transition to zinc... so it’s hit or miss in 82.
      I always bend my pennies in a vice with a hammer to create space when in the column.
      Copper pennies will bend zinc will snap in half... so it’s an easy way to tell if the date isn’t clear on the coin.👍😊🥃
