First, great review, that spot really has impressive distance. If i can shed some light (get it) on the which light question, the easy answer is both because they do different jobs. I have the m12 stick light and it is great for just about everything other than distance. It puts out a ton of clean and even light and runs all day on a 4.0 battery. So it depends on the task - if it's up close, go for the lantern or stick, if you need distance get the spot.
+Scott Kaye The lantern is more general lighting and the spot is designed for spot or specific lighting. If I had to choose one, for the work I do, I'd choose the lantern and use a flashlight for spot work
