Well he has a very unique style. He's not as technical or as fast as some of the best guys out there, but he is absolutely perfect for the HOF sound. Unmistakeable HOF sound.
I’ve seen them live s few times and I’m always floored how Des can keep a heavy drumming set like that going for an hour. His drumming for High on Fire is heavy on the toms for most of the songs. We’ve seen many double bass drummers and many blast beat drummers but Des runs the whole gamut for an hour and beyond the physical trial is the ability to memorize those intricate song structures that Matt and Jeff put together. It’s like Jethro Tull, D.R.I., and Black Sabbath made a baby in a lab.
@@geneconnell279 it's a problem. sound guys are like, "hmmm, I can still hear the guitars and vocals, better turn up the kick and subs and drown that shit out. happens at most metal shows i've been to, so i don't spend the $40+ to be robbed anymore.
@@bobleglob162 I saw Neurosis saturday night at the TLA in Philly. Their sound guy is a genius. TLA is one of my least favorite venues. The sound is never good there, regardless of the group. Neurosis was incredible. The sound was so damn good! I couldn't get over how clean and clear everything was, considering how powerful Neurosis is live. Their sound guy could work wonders for High on Fire's live shows.
Des is one of the heaviest drummers in the world right now! Doesn't get the credit he deserves!

Tragically underrated musician.....

It is NOT the same without this guy
He is one of the best drummers ever
Damn that reply about the long years really shows in retrospect how jaded he is and ready to move on… I will always miss him in high on fire!
I wouldn't say jaded. Tired is what I'd call it.
God that sucks he left High On Fire. His drumming is like no other, and he was a very important part of the band.
Let's name some heavy animals or ferocious animals to equate to Des' sound and playing. I'll start: WOOLY MAMMOTH
Oh boy!!! The drums on this one are insane! First thing I noticed from the first listen
To me the cover looks like the main villan from Big trouble in little china.
Why not make an album in tribute to lemmy? I wonder why they didn’t dedicate the album to him on the inner sleeve
Really love the new album. It's one of the best of 2018
There's no better bsnd name in metal than High on Fire it's the most metal name ever. Glad they don't suck 😂
Theyre like the best band ever dude their catalog is ridiculous.
@Dale Griffim bro you have the baddest avatar on the planet lol
Excellent questions
Des pummels dem drums!!!! Album is amazing!!!
Original powerful soulful
i love em. i just wish the sound guy wouldn't make em sound like dogshit every time i see em.
Dead on! I've seen them many times over the years and the sound is never on.
