It is downright bizarre that cars in Sweden had left-hand drive while they were being driven on the left side of the road. Of course when traffic shifted to the right in 1967, this finally made sense. It's very much to the credit of Volvo that they invented and installed shoulder and lap belts so early, far before any other manufacturer.
It's my understanding that Volvo purposely didn't patent the 3-point seatbelt because they wanted everyone to start using it since it was so effective.
Swedish drivers loved being able to get out at the side of the road, there was also less dazzle effect and you could drive closer to the side of the road. That this led to absurd situations when overtaking was less important, even in the 1955 referendum when a majority wanted to keep left-hand driving. Originally, left-hand traffic was not a problem either - at least until traffic had not internationalised and mass motorisation began.

The Volvo Amazon ,is a very strong sturdy car, whether it is a 2 door, 4 door or the wagon, also the engines are very reliable,while other cars, have a time span these cars surpass their time, plus it has a lot of safety features.
@@Jeff-bd5yohi! Well… I think that I won’t buy another car in my lifetime! My Volvo was the perfect choice for me. Besides for everyday commuting I use my motorcycle, so the car is for long trips! I love my Volvo! ❤

Besides being attractive to look at, these Volvo Amazon (122S) were actually well built.

Drove Volvo truck’s for 40yrs now retired driving a Volvo XC70,still total Swedish quality.

We had a 122S with the B20B engine. Fabulous car, comfortable, durable, and particularly fast on gravel roads.

Han sa highways, betyder "större huvudväg" ung. Före 1967 fanns motorvägar bara vid Stockholm, Göteborg, Malmö och Huskvarna. Då med fri fart.
