First jw I worked with we went to an old school with lighting fixtures build in the seventies. We were to find and remove any ballasts marked PCB. They told us to open the windows and not to breathe in any dust. I remember the guy saying if I knew about the details I would of run screaming from the job haha... We got laid off and he managed to live to retirement. I didn't see him much after that. Second job was a big college dorm project in Boston. I managed to have perfect attendance so I guess I 'won' a good spot with another grandpa sparky who only had a few months left until retirement. We were supposed to have another job lined up so he could finish his time but a contract fell through and we all got laid off. He had to go to the back of the list from what I heard. He gave me a towel for my shoulder because all I did was lift things up and down all day haha. He says' don't let them use you up. I always had a towel with my tool kit for shouldering bundles thanks to him. I heard he did get to finish his time and retire out of state. Third job I was assigned to work with a guy who says to me in front of the foreman 'Apprentices are useless. I refuse to work with an apprentice. If he takes my job I'll break his legs'. So they sent me right back to the hall who was confused. The new school rep asked me where I belonged and I replied 'wherever you send me'. I think I sat for four months without work at that point but I wasn't giving up. I got a few dozen unbelievable stories of hazing, surviving, and juggling four milk crates of coffee, donuts and newspapers. Tell that to the youth of today and they wouldn't believe you. Class of 2012 just fell short of my graduation hours in the field but I completed all the schooling nearly perfect attendance. Spend my days managing an immune disorder now thanks to every electrical hazard possible I guess haha. Keep up the good work.
@@DailyElectrician It started with an electrical shock to my leg at a dcr pool job installing a light pole. The shop sent me and the other guy to a clinic who gave me a booster shot and said I may have an immune response. The shock possibly cooked my nerves up my leg, back and out my arms. As it spread it was awful experience. I first did two years of radiation therapy to try and heal it. When it spread to my lungs they put me on methotrexate. I am so angry at times this is what's become of me. I wanted to move on with my life. I am what this line of work has left of me. I could go on and on about further details but I don't want to rant in the comment section. I spend every day draining inflammation out of the nerves in my back and looking for more helpful doctors. Not something I even want to admit on social media but.. what a character building job alright.
WEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I remember being an apprentice and my most fond memory is the fact I still am an apprentice 🤣 - Good stories! I too have a couple Jman/foreman who are good buddies of mine & we no longer work together
Just started my non-Union apprenticeship last week, I’m in the van with my journeyman waiting for our plumber to finish his work and working to understand the trade more. Thanks for your videos bro💙
