Sometimes I'm glad that I am ill educated with regards to opera....I would hate to not have been able to enjoy that. I have no idea what some do not like but I have listened to many versions of Casta Diva and this is the only one to have stopped me in my tracks. Simply beautiful.

Monserrat Caballe is much better than Maria Callas. Maria Guleghina is much better than Maria Callas. Мария Каллас была дешёвкой в жизни, которая многократно отказывала своей матери в её просьбе посылать ей сто долларов в месяц - на пропитание... Такая личносьт не может петь хорошо. И исполняла Каллас роли так же - вульгарно и низменно. Души не было в ней, духовности не было в ней. Нуль. Послушайте Рене Флемминг. Но, опять-таки, никто не сравнится в этой роли с Monserrat Caballe.

I love this interpretation. It's much more adequate to the lyric than a forceful rendition because she's praying to the Moon. Cecilia's dynamic control is really astonishing. I'm sure it's much harder to sing in a soft voice than a loud one.

I had the tickets and the opportunity to see her in Toronto in 1995. The only thing that could stop me from seeing her happened. My wife went into labour and our daughter was born. It was an auspisious entery into this world for our daughter Daniella and post delivery we played a variety of our favorite music including Cecilia.
Fabulous.....as expected, wonderful music and a superb performer, it sounds particularly beautiful wafting through my tropical rainforest garden .....and .....I really don’t care if it’s not an “authentic” rendition, because it’s simply ...beautiful

Получилось задушевно, беседа с лесным божеством при ясной луне. Весьма незабываемо и несравнимо с требующимся театральным исполнением обычного выдающегося колоротурного драматического бель-канто сопрано.
A prayer to the great goddess, "personified" by the moon with its silvery white chaste light, deeply beautiful music, composed, amazingly enough by a male, (Vincenczo Bellini), but sung with moving emotion by the greatest women opera singers. Listening, I'm overcome with the feeling of the lofty and miraculous.
This is so much better than the soprano version - which tends to be a bit screechy. The mezzo version really brings out the tenderness and spirituality of the aria.
Lovely, lovely, lovely. Every phrase has deep emotion and meaning. I would rather hear Cecilia Bartoli than almost any other mezzo soprano and there are so many wonderful mezzos that it's saying a lot....
She simply does not sing in the UK often enough. I heard her do Norma at the Edinburgh Festival 3 years ago, it was worth the trip from Ireland to go. She is one of the most unassuming divas of this generation; she also did a concert in Dublin several years ago which was stunning, debate all you like I know when she sings it is worth the trek. Her voice is the instrument of an angel.
Please, do not compare with other singers. This version sung by Cecilia Bartoli is the version that was adapted for the "Malibran" therefore it is not a version for a soprano but for a mezzo-soprano. Cecilia Bartoli loves the "Malibran" and she definitely wanted to sing this version. You must admit that she is excellent! It has nothing to do with what you can hear with Maria Callas or other wonderful singers. It is just different. All of them are wonderful but DIFFERENT.
@@violetta47 We all seem to agree here that we are sorry, for you. Tell me: do you enjoy a lot of recordings from Maria Malibran considering she died at 28 in 1836? And if so, are they in Dolby even remastered? I couldn't find any. So how do you know? How do you compare?
@@violetta47 So you have heard Malibrans sing have you. As she died at 28 in the early 19th century I do wonder just where you heard her. As for Bartoli, she has the greatest techinque of any soprono since the great Supervia, who died in 1936 or so.

Honestly, it bothers me deeply that many singers do not respect NORMA as the monumental and titanic piece of art that it is, for a long time I considered Bartoli''s "Casta Diva" a petulance, nevertheless I just made peace with it thanks to this comment. She just wanted to sing it as a "Cantinela" and it sounds really sweet.
