There needs to be another storyline like this on one of the remaining soaps now. This is needed to counterbalance the vitriol and fear mongering being directed at those who are transgender. So many need to see that these people aren’t “monsters under the bed” like the right is trying to make them out to be. Even if one person is convinced, that would be a win.
Boy have we come such a long way in terms of acceptance. In the city, where I live they have Drag Queens who read storybooks for kids, and they love them.
It's very good and comforting to know that transgenders are really starting to be taken seriously. It's is a super good film clip, very touching and very real.
How did an over the top soap opera do a positive and normal portrayal of transgender people? This is only bit I have seen from the show mind you... but I am surprised to say that All My Children got it right when so many non sensationalized shows sensationalize it. I also like how this is reaching an audience that might strongly oppose transgender people or know nothing about it. =) Thanks for posting this.
@ABombInABirdcage The fact that "All My Children" collaborated with the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation helped incredibly with the authenticity of the portrayal here. The people in attendance at the support group are all transgender in real life, some of them well known. Among them is Andy Marra, the woman from GLAAD probably most responsible for this moment of media history. It's super great. :)
I consider myself , very lucky. I grew up a loner and still am, I keep clear of risks and problems. I can relate to almost anybody but must be alone at home with my cats
I can't believe this was the early 2000s. Such trailblazing talent and bravery. RIP Jeffrey.

I love how Zoe says she came out as a woman, rather than as a Trans woman. It's the little things that make a difference.
