Tysm..hope she stays for awhile..since she apparently had no food for two to three days as well as being knocked of the branch by the barn owl. She looked weak on her return but since being fed by Dad is getting back to her normal self..!! Stay awhile Legacy, we already know your one tough juvie!!
Legacy got knocked off the nest early this morning. I think it was a hawk, but couldn't really tell. This is the second time she has been knocked off. The first time was by an owl.
Not typically. Research has shown that most fledglings will return in 4 1/2 - 5 years (once mature) to within 50 - 100 miles of their natal area but rarely take over their parents nest. At this particular nest, Samson, who hatched at this nest in 2013 did "take over" the nest but that was only because Romeo and Juliet appeared to have moved on after the number of eagles that invaded the Hamlet December 2018 - the rogue eagles drove Juliet away and Romeo left the day after the only eaglet to hatch was snatched by one of the rogue eagles.
@liz williams thank you, l thought so, she really is one tough chick, she was totally ok after that big barn owl knocked her off the tree when she was sleeping the other night, don't mess with Legacy. 😆
Hi Freya, without doing blood testing we don't know for sure the gender of bald eagles in the wild. However certain physical clues have most here at the foundation believing that Legacy is a female. But again AEF doesn't label wild eagles with a gender, because truth is we don't know for certain. Thanks for watching!
I have really enjoyed watching Legacy. ❤🦅

When the eaglets have gone off to be adults, do they ever return to take over the nest from their parents? Anyone know?
