Great tutorial, but if you're going to make this, you should really hem all the raw edges. It makes it look much more professional and if you don't, your fabric WILL unravel.
ChriZ hemming is like folding (not too much) in the perimeter of the fabric and sewing the along folded areas. It protects the edges of the fabric and makes it less likely to unravel or tear.
Why are people saying they copied Bethany Mota? The tutorials are totally different. And if I'm not mistaken, Bethany Mota did not come up with The Little Red Riding Hood, and I'm positive she couldn't have been the first person to think to dress up as her and make her own hooded cape. Also, maybe The Sorry Girls don't watch Bethany Mota.
Thank you so much!!! My daughter told me last minute what she wanted to be for Halloween. I'm a working mother and had to work the day of Halloween. I had 3 hour to get this made. I was lost and found your video. Because of your help I made it in an hour. It came out beautiful and I'm no seamstress! So grateful!
To the people claiming this video copied Bethany Mota... The ONLY thing similar is the song intro, and that's it! The song! This song is not Bethany's song, nor is the Red Riding Hood Cape copyrighted as hers either. This is a very popular song, and there are millions of people all over who dress up as Little Red Riding Hood. I'm 30, and still to this day, I still love the Red Riding Hood style/look. Just because 2 videos uses the same song as their video intro does not mean that either person copied off the other. The 2 tutorials are completely different.
My teen daughter wanted to be Little Red Riding Hood for Halloween...couldn't find anything but sleezy costumes at the shops...and I'm not crafty! This was an amazingly easy way to go...took me a couple hours start to finish...I got to use awesome looking fabric, great clasp, and she is thrilled with the outcome! (and it cost a whole lot less than the cheap looking shop stuff) Thanks so much for this video! If I can follow this, anyone can!
This was the second ever sewing project I attempted, and I made my own red riding hood costume! I actually ended up having to hand sew the whole thing because our sewing machines weren't working. It really helped my hand sewing abilities I think! I'm definitely going to try more sewing projects in the future because of this experience!
I've been searching for the perfect cape for hours and I've yet to find one but this tutorial is so easy to follow that I'll be making my own. Thank you so much for your help!
Love this! Super easy and cute! When my daughter said she wanted to be Little Red Riding Hood I had no idea where to start. Your tutorial video made the task easy! I even... gasp!..... sewed! Not necessary, but thought it would finish off the edges. THANK YOU!
guys thank you so much, i was debating to either be red riding hood or dorothy, and this video helped me soooo much!!! i have done my cape already and i love it!!! i adore you gals and your chanel!! thankyou
Very easy and quick. I had to make last minute Red Ridinghood Costume for my 1 year old for fancy dress. This helped to do the cape within 15 minutes. Tyvm.
Great tutorial, thanks! I agree, if you finish the raw edges this cape will be perfect! I also agree that this video does NOT compare to B. Mota's video, it's also good, just different. I prefer this one. Great job!
I loved it!!! Its ridiculously beautiful and simple xD can you please next time include a small makeup tutorial and maybe hair too??! thank you so so much :)
omg, really love your videos, supergood ideas and wonderfully creativ.. whatched all of them and can't wait for all nexts.. ;-) greetings from switzerland
I bought a cloak that looked like hers, but it had white fluffy stuff at the bottom so I cut it off :) I was little red riding hood for 2 years in a row, because I just wore a skirt and a shirt with the cloak and it was easy, and I just really liked it :) it was probably my favourite costume
Thanks so much! I used this tutorial to make my daughter a longer version cloak for her Teen Titan/Raven costume. It gave the hood the right draping and it was super easy to do (with my limited sewing skills). Do you have a Flickr for people to share costumes derived from your tutorials?
I love it! I'll be little red riding hood on carnival and I'm definitely going to do the cape by myself :) this is an awesome "how to do" video, thank you!
I did something similar to this last year. except I put a stuffed werewolf mask in the wicker basket so it looked like I was carrying around the head of the wolf. :D
I'm not much into making costumes but I would really like to see a full version of the video you started. Some really great expressions and imagery there. Get someone who looks like Jack Nicolson's wolf character maybe... spying from behind a tree... that sort of thing.
I want to make one. But A) It'll be huge (I'm a 6ft2 rugby player) B) The hood looks a little big. Could I replicate the dimensions of a hoodie which I know fits? C) It's been, like, 6 years since I took any class in sewing or stitching. To make a more rounded edge do you just fold over a small amount of edge material and stitch it to the main piece on the inside?
okay I don't plan on going on any halloween party this year, but I'm going to make this anyway :) it's beautiful! (any chance you could do a DIY hobbit cosutme? with the elven cloak and the leaf pin?)
Great tutorial!!! I’m sewing by hand so it’s taking me more than an hour but I love how easy it is! Just any recommendations on how to use the left over fabric on the basket?
if the cloth was green and shorter, this could be awesome for Attack on Titan cosplay
Amy Rose yas!
Great tutorial, but if you're going to make this, you should really hem all the raw edges. It makes it look much more professional and if you don't, your fabric WILL unravel.
*random question and i know this is old but* what is hem the edges?
ChriZ hemming is like folding (not too much) in the perimeter of the fabric and sewing the along folded areas. It protects the edges of the fabric and makes it less likely to unravel or tear.
Especially if the fabric shreds a lot on the edges

shes using velvet so i dont think it will unravel.

So weird watching such old videos compared to now. Still so wonderful to watch though.
This is such a good tutorial! I've been looking for a very clear and simple video all day!
+Annabel Sherry Watch Bethany Mota's video. It's a lot simpler
I'm freaking in love with the background music😍😍

Making a long one for a Renaissance costume. With how easy this is, I'm amazed that the premade ones run for $80+!
This was the second ever sewing project I attempted, and I made my own red riding hood costume! I actually ended up having to hand sew the whole thing because our sewing machines weren't working. It's the best video I've ever watched when it comes to making diy capes. Thank you very much for creating this video. It's very easy to follow.

going to use this to make a gefling cape for my granddaughter to wear at Halloween. Using a suede looking polyester material.
I bought a cloak that looked like hers, but it had white fluffy stuff at the bottom so I cut it off :) I was little red riding hood for 2 years in a row, because I just wore a skirt and a shirt with the cloak and it was easy, and I just really liked it :) it was probably my favourite costume
Where did you get yours, looking for one to wear.

I did this tutorial for Halloween this year and it looks awesome
now I wonder what costume you are going to wear ?!!!
Wow! Life savinggggg♥️
if only I had a sewing machine or knew how to sew by hand :-( this would be a great costume for the ticket sellers at my college's haunted house!
Anoyne as an idea of the maesurment ?
i counted 20 inches on her measuring tape
If you are using a sewing machine you can pin it normally and use the proper lines on the plate that show 1.5 inches.
I'm not much into making costumes but I would really like to see a full version of the video you started. Some really great expressions and imagery there. Get someone who looks like Jack Nicolson's wolf character maybe... spying from behind a tree... that sort of thing.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO A BOLLYWOOD DANCER COSTUME AND A BATWOMAN COSTUME!! THANK YOU LOVE YOU BOTH XXXX
I want to make one.
But
A) It'll be huge (I'm a 6ft2 rugby player)
B) The hood looks a little big. Could I replicate the dimensions of a hoodie which I know fits?
C) It's been, like, 6 years since I took any class in sewing or stitching. To make a more rounded edge do you just fold over a small amount of edge material and stitch it to the main piece on the inside?
I was actually in need of a hooded cloak for this Hallowe'en. Thank you!
okay I don't plan on going on any halloween party this year, but I'm going to make this anyway :) it's beautiful!
(any chance you could do a DIY hobbit cosutme? with the elven cloak and the leaf pin?)
it would be really cool if you guys made some halloween costumes for the abc show once upon a time!
Great tutorial!!! I’m sewing by hand so it’s taking me more than an hour but I love how easy it is! Just any recommendations on how to use the left over fabric on the basket?
