How did your diafold holdup? Wear? I’d like to try dmt but their 6 inch stone is too thin to hand hold, my preference for sharpening, and scrubbing the blade on such a small area makes me wonder how long it will last.

They're actually quite durable, been using them for quite a few years. I recommend using a little soapy water and not too much pressure and they'll last you a long time.

I’ve always wondered about the bass/balsa grain orientation. End grain or side grain?

I get the balsa in large sheets that are along the grain and cut to size.

I've just recently been experimenting with that. I've noticed end grain giving me
better results, especially with basswood. But: When it's thin (+/- 1/4"); it's brittle, and might snap on you mid-sharpening.

THK diamond paste or Kent’s Diamond paste? They are the same thing. Just different names. That’s the stuff your using though right?

They are the same but made by a large manufacture that also sells it to others, really a decent paste overall and cheap especially if you buy in bulk, you can get large tubs of this stuff.

I haven't seen that handle on the DMT sharpener. Is that an older design?

Get these from home depot, it's made by DMT exclusively for them I think.
