- Elmira is located in Chemung County. The population is 26,523 according to the 2020 census.
Economically challenged its community is resilient with ongoing efforts to revitalize the local economy and improve quality of life.
it is also home to the Elmira Correctional Facility, a maximum-security prison operated by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
Mark Twain spent summers in Elmira and wrote several of his famous works here, including "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer."
When you get to the stop sign at water street, those apartments right across from you along the river is where my brother used to live.

Elmira is an oasis compared to Binghamton, an hour drive east of Elmira.
I’m sure it has seen better days, but that’s actually pretty nice for upstate.
Why leave out the nice areas? I live here. Not a complete dumb but definently going down hill. There are some really nice areas also.

30k to 90k for a fixer-upper that needs 50 to 100 to properly renovate if you can do the work yourself not actually cheap but the cost of living and tax rates makes it doable for a pensioner or single-parent family but outside the city limits prices start around 400k and up
@@platinumshopstudios I live in the Toronto area [GTA] there’s nothing under $1M - and those are tear downs that require $250k - $400k to make livable. I can’t explain why the GTA is so expensive, when Buffalo is 1.5hrs away. Cleveland is 4 hrs away. Elmira is 3 hrs away.
