Suggestions for working with gold flake/sheet: Create a static charge on your brush and use this to pick up the gold. Instead of using glue - obtain some blank/empty capsules made from GELATIN - then boil a small amount of water and place the capsules in the water - dissolve them and use this to "paint" the surface you want the gold to adhere to. Wait for the gelatin to become tacky and then transfer the gold. After the transfer you may want to coat/spray the gold with a clear waterproof sealant. You may need to experiment with how many capsules you use in the water. If the wood under the gold has a rough surface - so will the gold.

Why not just buy hide glue flakes. It is just as good or better. It is almost the same thing. You can buy unflavored gelatin in the grocery, it is the same thing. Both are gelatin.

I have the exact same file for the box and I concur with your assessment. 15 is about as best as you’re gonna get for the box only cars for Mother’s Day. I did the rose and the box together kind of thing did ok. turned out real nice, but I agree with you too much time not enough profit. Great job on the video

Hahhaha, so whats funny to me is I watched the same video you did, thought to myself I should buy some and play around, then forgot to buy it. Im glad I did. So I think she did have some mission critical differences than you. The big thing hers was just a box top, so just flat. So when cutting wood, you do get some wood resin in the cut areas. You had alot of open/complex going on yours(Nice box btw I do like it) Thats probably what tripped you up with it being a mess, the open areas and wood resin/finish residue acting like glue. I do think her brush was better, it seemed like she did some quick pressure got it down then the brush was stiff enough to break the excess off.

I think I'd pull out some resin and glitter

My first thoughts is it would look great, but be very time consuming, and easy to mess up. I would be down to do it for a gift maybe.

@@ValleyForged if you have a rim on the heart you could easily pour in fingernail polish (with or without glitter) and set it aside to dry.

I'm wondering if you taped the lid, just did the heart, then put on the gold leaf, then afterwards complete the remainder of the lid..might save grief of little flakes everywhere

Oh it would. Not enough to make it worthwhile to me, but it would be better

What about glitter acrylic inlayed in the heart?

For a business, this is a better way to go. Or, mirrored gold acrylic.

@@FredSchmitthammer I will attempt to make my own version of this box. I just need the right graphics. Probably do a few versions.
