Kazuya Mishima ! Riddles is a monster this match! Gate of Hell is honestly such a powerful move. The angle it sends you especially at the ledge is deadly, alot of characters that have bad recovery will just lose stock from 1 grab like that. Leo had to use Mythra's sideB to recover from getting Gate of Hell which can be exploited so easily 😳
Amazing job Riddles. You can tell he really leveled up his Kazuya play. It was all usual MKLeo expert patient neutral winning him the most of the matchup after the 1st Riddles won game, but riddles big patient comeback for the 2-2 in game 4 and EXPLOITED Aegis weakness in that last game. He studied this bad Kazuya matchup well going for those Gates of Hell grab opportunity near ledge since Aegis off stage recovery is like their only weakness lol.

I understand Leo loves the character and his Mythra has significantly improved. But that doesn't change the fact Mythra isn't an Mkleo character. He mashes more with her. Where as when he uses Byleth or Corrin he plays more methodical. Thats why he gets kills at 70 and multiple shield breaks. He baits, conditions, and punishes accordingly. None of those elements are used when he plays Mythra. With Mythra he just throws out well placed tilts and air attacks hoping to catch people. Plus he gets fucked over offstage. I guarantee with Byleth or Corrin he wins this 3-0 or 3-1 at the least. Tea only took Leo to gm 5 cause it took a while to adapt to Teas mashing.
I agree, mkleo's aegis isn't as fun to watch as his other characters bc theres less mind games. I feel like his joker along with byleth and corrin also plays extremely methodical and maybe even more
Awesome take. I don't know the game thoroughly, and I'm definitely not good at it, but I do know that Leo doesn't get kills as easily when he plays Aegis. You hardly ever see an opponent still alive at 150% or higher when he uses Byleth or Corrin, but that routinely happens when he uses Aegis.
I guess this is where it started to go wrong for Leo. After seeing him tweet about how his character choice may have been wrong to begin with, it's strange to come back to this and see how close he came to winning game 4 and the set with really not all that much fuss. I'm hardly an expert, but to me it seems less like a character issue and more like Riddles out-clutched him and made some strong plays in the scramble.
This is what you get for training your opponents, Leo. 😄 But more seriously, I have a hard time believing what I just saw. Props to Riddles, he played that game 5 in an immaculate way, capitalizing on the Aegis main weakness 👏
Fighter's pass 2 characters were not well designed. Pythra relies on ridiculously easy combo strings initiated by a free neutral, then cleaning up the mess with Pyra's knockback and hitboxes. Kazuya is a boss character who either kills you in a couple of hits or can't get in at all. Minmin invalidates a lot of lower characters by throwing out arms and not letting you breathe. Steve is just a looney tunes character that can do anything. Sora and Seph have their own problems, and are designed in a way that the former can't get rewarded for their strings and the latter can be killed if you so much as poke him.
Pretty sure they were all designed to be that strong lol. Maybe from a competitive view they weren't well designed but Nintendo doesn't care about that.
Leo's Aegis just doesn't seem as good as his Byleth, i get that he sees something in but he doesn't seem to pull off in the same way. Also everybody is super familiar with the Aegis matchup, I really hope he goes back to Byleth by end of the tourney.
After watching the entire tournament and looking at this I think there are two clear points to make. 1. Many of the players that used to get stomped by Leo have stepped up their game and are much more capable of holding their own. 2. Leo does not operate Pythra very well. Compared to his other characters, these are the least effective. Yes the character is broken but Leo does not mesh well with them quite like he does his other mains.
I wanna root for underdog but I jus can't root for kazuya even when I try lol. Nice W for Rids against the goat. I feel for anyone who has to face a kazuya this good

He has been consistent. Definitely more consistent at higher placings then Kola or Cosmos
