TALIM's new director seems to be quite dynamic. Quite a change from J.D. For any American, you really owe it to yourself to visit the American Legation. For any RPCV you must stop and inquire about its colorful Peace Corps history. Rabat is one of my favorite cities in Morocco. For expats, it's amazing. There was soooo much that got skipped in Rabat that was worth showing/mentioning. (There's a really nice, authentic French crêperie behind the Catholic Cathedral next to the Institut Français...) Hay Riad is developing into a beautiful area especially along the coast. The medina is small, but I like it, and the kasbah is not to miss. The sign on the Atlantic coast during the Tangiers segment is a great place for a view from the lighthouse. A few years ago there was a boy with a donkey who would take pictures with tourists and had taught himself some Chinese using RUclips. He had learned a popular Chinese (kids?) sing and would sing it for tourists. This was just after Morocco and China had signed the reciprocal agreement for visa-free travel. It was cute seeing him dressed as a jebli and hearing his voice squeak as he sang. Tourists seemed amused. He must be about 16 now. There is a very nice museum/workshop across from the Hassan II mosque in Casablanca that is a must visit for anyone interested in the Moroccan decorative arts. It's really well done. (By the way, the mosque is massive, but a bit expensive for tourists to visit.) Essaouira is a true gem. The artists and artisans there are really chill. Outside the Gnaoua Festival it's a great place to visit with some great, creative restaurants. During the Gnaoua Festival the place is packed!
