This is probably one of the nicest Kmarts I have seen. Fully stocked, neat and seemingly clean. They even have modern registers with moving belts. Every Kmart I've ever been to had a small, old counter that barely fit a half dozen items at a time.

I’m from Cape Cod and have visited this location so many times. Heck, my first date ended up at this Kmart. We saw The Crow opening night at the movie theater that used to be adjacent to the KMart- behind the Chinese restaurant. After the movie while we waited for his mom to pick us up, we wandered the aisles and sat in a booth at the closed and vacant Little Caesar’s inside the Kmart. We got to chatting and ultimately getting kicked out for making out in Kmart. Good times.

This was last Kmart open in New England after the last store in New Hampshire (West Lebanon) closed. Now, this store will be closing in April 2021, which will leave New England will no more Kmarts.

When I first saw that Kmart, I thought it was open. I found that Kmart and thought it was open as it was among the last 25 stores to close. But I walked up to the Kmart and saw a sign that said CLOSED and I said CLOSED and read the sign on the door. I first thought the store was non closing, but there are three Kmarts remaining as of today! All 2,450 Kmarts in the nation are closed, even in Fitchburg.

Okay, finally got to your video. What I think? It's an old building, yes, but it's kept up for the most part- new checkout lanes at the end (looked like the kind with conveyor belts), well stocked, clean, and I think the biggest reason so many shoppers have given up on Kmart is that Kmart lost their mass market appeal. Their largest demographic (30-something women) have abandoned them, because Kmart no longer stocks what made them appeal to those women (Martha Stewart, electronics- even if only for their male counterpart they'd still get it, and the like).
When Kmart lost their niche, and stopped making their stores inviting (K Cafe/Little Caesars were removed, stained ceiling tiles not replaced, burned out lights not replaced, faded carpet not replaced, etc), they lost a major reason to go to them. They don't have as much merchandise they once did. They stock mostly their own brands, they did increase toys in an attempt to pick up the market that Toys R Us left behind, but it's really too little, too late, they're on a continued downward slide, and it's not going to get better- it's going to continue losing shoppers, closing stores, losing shoppers, closing stores, until finally the last one closes in the US. Which one remains to be seen, but it's not going to last, they've snowballed out of control, there's no saving Kmart now, so enjoy it while you can, its time will be coming to an end very, very soon!

Hey Manny, I dont know if you're interested in driving up to Northeast Ohio, but the now abandoned seven hills Kmart is getting set up to be demolished. They have the demolition fences set up around Kmart, the former arbys, and the former carwash, and as of Sunday, the gates are open for you to drive through one last time. The entire place is supposed to be gone by the beginning of April to make way for Meyers. Hope you can make it #LoveWhereYouLive

It's a shame but it's just a matter of time before it closes. Kmart is a great store and I shopped at ours in Hagerstown Md until it closed a few weeks ago but it can't survive poor management and the Walmart onslaught. There are too few Kmarts and Sears stores left to be viable unless someone poured millions of dollars into them. Ours was doing well and that leads me to believe that there is a systematic shutdown going on and not just closing unprofitable locations.

@@Jman926 It seems like people only want to shop at one department store. I went to Sears, Wards, Macys, Penny's, Ames and all the rest. When I was a kid we had four or five department stores downtown and a Woolworth's, Mccrory's, Newberry's and Grant's five and dime in all in one block and they all did well. My family and I went to all of them because each had some things we liked that the others didn't.

Kmart's only major competitor in the area was Bradlees (miss that place), Target just arriving less than a year ago. Most likely why it's one of the last Kmarts left (THE last in Massachusetts).

This one opened in 1971 I believe. I remember the restaurant in the back of the store. It was called the GRILL. I think it was removed in the 80s or sometime way back in my childhood. Anyone else remember the Kmart GRILL, or was it just a Hyannis thing?

Grill was open as of 1993, I know, I worked there. I visited again in 2007 and don't remember seeing it. Looks like the store is still well kept. Although, the lack of customers is concerning. This K-Mart used to also have an auto mechanic shop. I don't think it's still there. Thanks for the video.
