from my experience, osu content tends to be limited by the reliance on music for the gameplay to make sense. it sometimes feels like there are more ways to make content "about" osu than content of the actual game. it also doesn't help that every other song in osu gives you a copyright claim on youtube and demonetizes your video. but, maybe we just aren't being creative enough

I think on the "player documentary" side it really comes down to the person making it and what they focus on. I've seen them feel very repetitive when the creator focuses only on the pp numbers (they set a 500, and then their first 600, and then they got a 700, etc.). What makes the history of a player special is the specific stories that molded them.
I've even run into some times where it felt like I couldn't tell a different enough story, which is why I ended Minute Legends in favor of more fleshed out longer videos. Since it's about the stories, that's why I ended up branching out to events or old osu! lore instead of just focusing on players. There's plenty of room for growth in the content scene, but we just need to wait for the right creator or video to come.
Of course I of all people have lots of thoughts on this as the original "player documentary" guy, but I'll leave it at that for now.

I agree with this video so much... I only want to make videos that I feel like I want to see, but I haven't seen yet. I think it's pretty difficult to come up with unique videos or ideas in this game because it is, at the end of the day, a really simple game. You've done a great job, I only have like 4 legit videos so far though. But there is absolutely a big hole right now for a new personality or content creator to fill the void left by the tons of relatively inactive people like Binfy, Koi, tokaku, etc. It just needs someone with a good personality and some innovative ideas!

good analysis of the current content scene in osu. it's been in discussion on how stale osu content has gotten over the years and people like sst3w and b1rchh have some great ideas in the making but all that matters is time. the more repetitive content that gets pumped out (trend-hopping shorts, documentary, drama), the higher the demand for something new. the moment the community see some kind of osu content that is creative outside of these stale bread, they will consume it like mad, thus spawning a new era of osu content until that, too, becomes oversaturated. i think as long as there are ideas coming for osu, albeit they'll get stale in a couple years, the osu content scene will survive and give birth to new content creators that strive to be different

Though i started uploading again a year after because i was interested in their whole short monetisation they announced and wanted to check it out. Since then i upload videos every now and then (almost exclusively creators i have gathered permission from, only very few i cant reach out to but also seem to be fine with it) while having long breaks like right now because you just get bored of making this type of content. I would argue there is not a single osu short creator that puts actual effort in the videos its all about finding that new trend that randomly gets 5 million views.

But most gd videos aren't even creative! Mean there are videos obviously designed to get as much wievs with as little off effort put into it creators or whatewer I call them like Kayguy just make shitty RUclips shorts that don't have any effort put into them while actual creators like npesta, doggie, gd colon, actually have creativity! I know two people have said things about the geometry dash community already but these are just my thoughts. Content becoming stale is imo also a larger problem in GD. Usually the videos over there are just showcases of popular levels/top player beating difficult level (similar to osu scoreposts), RUclips shorts brainrot (basically the same as osu tiktoks except its even more low effort, it has a bunch of gen alpha memes, and every short is a carbon copy of each other), some drama videos, and documentaries (usually on the better side of GD content like what you said). Ofc there are people who try to come up with unique video ideas for the game, but I think the GD community suffers big time from stale content. I think the problem comes from the fact that the game is simple and easy to both work with and record like osu. The fact that we've been waiting for the next update for 6 years also doesn't help

this is a crazy hot take, but osu videos have basically defined the standards of EN-speaking rhythm game videos as a whole, for better or for worse. a lot of people nowadays are first exposed to games through videos like osu documentaries, so anyone making videos on the overall genre uses these as the baseline to the point where it's completely saturated with the same thing end-on-end. either that, or tier lists. please stop making tier lists. it's nowhere near this bad with scenes like the FGC (which loves their documentary formats and tier lists) but the massive difference between the FGC and RGC is that the former has actual variety in video content.
I can't think of a single rhythm game "content creator" that suddenly blew up out of nowhere and defined how players value covering a variety of topics since Etienne, maybe Losermanwins, and I wager someone with their impact isn't going to make another splash for a long while, judging on how rhythm game videos still cover the same 4-5 topics and formats ad nauseam. I think osu content has mostly been "solved" by this point, but it has a massive ripple effect of stagnating potential ideas on other games in the genre through sheer attrition. people should make videos on topics that they would want to discuss, rather than following the YT grind. never played osu, but this is food for thought - good video
tl;dr rhythm game players please cover stuff that nobody else has talked about

didn't really understand what you really meant, but any contect is sinusoidal and ended its period. There are were WubWoofWolf funny replay maps like RonaldmcDonald Insanity. Nalian review profiles. KoiFishu review setup and replays. binfy funny beat topplay or give supporter. BTMC highlights. Anton osu clips highlights. cpol replays. Everything just got boring. There are just no new ideas for content creators. For example: CIS streamers just put roulette for ~1USD profile review/replay review/request.

I kinda disagree with the overall message of this video. imo osu! content has DRASTICALLY improved since 2020-2021 and I think the osu! content push to commentary over Binfy or Kiofishu type videos is really good. If I wanted to “just have fun” with osu! i would just hop on the game and do the same thing they are doing, while with watching top player documentaries I am actually engaging with something that I cant do. Also i feel like i see way more videos like this one now that are discussing aspects of the community rather than just top players and maps and I really like these kind of videos so keep up the good work m8 :D

calls people shallow for using views as unit of measurement, proceeds to do the same with geometry dash xD. Jokes aside i do agree that osu content is repetitive. would like to see more people just messing around and having fun with the game although documentaries are nice. so far best osu video i've seen is the rewind 2022. Imagine making osu content for views. You know, the unmonetisable game full of copyrighted music, that is literally just tapping circles over and over again, that's over 15 years old, and that nobody outside the community actually knows.

This feels a bit too overly critical of RUclips shorts creators. Doing something ONCE is easy, but to do it consistently, staying update, and a bit of marketing actually takes a decent amount of work. If some was "easy", everyone would do it. If making money and/or getting views as as easy as cookie clicker, literally everyone and their moms would be doing it. Unfortunately, it is somewhat difficult, time consuming, and also just a big commitment for a creator to do all of this. Making a long-form video every few weeks is cool, but to consistently make short-form content and effectively INVENT your own genre of video is a pretty respectable thing imho. Nobody should be throwing shit towards anyone. If you don't like the content, just don't watch it, don't be jealous, and focus on yourself.

This video is more a critique of documentary and drama videos, the shorts section was just a small point when they said it takes them 'effort' to produce a video.

Amazing vid !!! IMO OSU documentary’s can be very good but for example etieenes vaxei/xootynator documentary’s but (especially in the top 100) osu! Players story’s aren’t very interesting at least games like ddr have more interesting players like piguy that have skill sets and storys no one can ever match

Gd content is not thriving by any means. Theres the top players posting the new top 1 (hardest current level) pass and people making short meme levels that end with the beginning of a famously hard level. Or its just a cheater trying to act like a cheater but making it very obvious so people will comment. This happens with any game. Valorant, beatsaber, and tf2 both have had and have this problem. Mostly an issue with what is happening with the game. All those games (except valorant) including osu haven't gotten a game changing update in a while. So most of the good content comes from creators creating it. Ie the osu player that pretended to be a noob and was like top 10. Then the 1000$ spike challenge, tf2 with the overly produced ultra high quality sfm animations mixed in with a fast pace video (lazypurple is a prime example). But yea compared to valorant osu is doing well. 3-4 of the biggest valorant creators quit because they were forcing content for a game that didnt have any. Another big issue is over specialization. Being an 2ft(touber as in youtuber) means that you upload once every 6 months on a good year
