I made this today and just finished my dinner with this freshly made daal. This is a super easy and super tasty dish. Thank you very much for the recipe. Everyone in my family liked it.
I had forgotten some of the details, but as soon as I saw yours I recognised it as the classic Bengali recipe. There are variations with onions and ginger and garlic, and everything else; but this is what I had in my childhood.
incredibly good video quality, editing and cooking. couldn't have been more impressed. keep up the no-nonsense, fast paced videos! much appreciated! :) now i'm off to making dal...
Glad you like the format. You have pretty much summed up our objective in making these videos. We have new videos up every Friday morning. So subscribe and click on the bell icon to get notified.
Bong Eats I really like the way u represent these dishes with music..far better than other cookery channels where they give a headache of too much explanation..
So interesting how these recipes vary from family to family. "Our" version uses onions and kalo jeere as the tempering, but no chillies or tejpata. Also I find this dal cooks really quickly on the stove - but I often add a bit of oil to the dal as it boils to prevent it from foaming.
@@soumyadipXplore we don’t use onion either. Have not done it with only radhuni. May try that. Pnachphoron contains radhuni 😊 I think ppl from erstwhile East Bengal use less onions & tomato especially in niramish food. My parents who were from East Bengal rarely use onions while cooking fish and vegetables. My in-laws who are from West Bengal use generous amounts of onions for most recipes.
I hate when people create recipe video which is very complicated to cook. This's one of the greatest recipe I have ever seen. It looks very easy cook. I will must subscribe this channel and will try to cook by my self. To be honest I'm tired of eating pizza, noddle and burgers because there is no Bangladeshi restaurant around me here. So I really need this kind of tutorial which actually I can apply in cooking. Btw I'm from Bangladesh and recently I just visited kolkata and I ate dhal in Hotel (supplied by Hotel) to be honest I have never eaten such a delicious Dhal in my life so I decided to cook Kolkata style Dhal. Is this recipe from Kolkata ? Because I searched kolkata style Dhal and it appeared ! Thanks
Just tried making this recipe today. I added some onions and a garlic clove. I didn’t have kaalo jeere and mustard oil so I used canola oil and it still turned out great. Thanks for the recipe! 😊
Thank u didi...My mom has gone office ,bcz today was very vital so she did not get tym to cook for me...Now I'm going to make dal for lunch..Thank u...😍 I hv subscribed to ur channel , plz give a love...
I am definitely going to try this in my pressure cooker. The masoor dal i bought doesnt seem to break up well cooking it normally on the cooker. Cant wait to make. Thank you for the recipe.
As a child I did whatever I could to fit in with my non bangali friends, which meant often dismissing my bangali culture, and yes cuisine. I often complained to my mom that her cooking lacked “flavor” in reality it just wasn’t filled to brim with heavy masala’s and ghee. Now that I’m married in my 30s and married to a Pakistani I look back at these same recipes and cook them for him, and he swears they’re the best desi food he’s had. Thank you bong eats :)
I appreciate the fact that the ingredients are named in Bangla instead of English. You guys have really niched it down to the Bengali viewers. No bay leaf, no nigella.
Thank u so much because I am cook dal at first time in my life and again thank you so much and my mom nears me and after when she tasted the dal and she loves it
I'm a pure Bengali from Kolkata so I want say we eat musur daal without coriander and if we make it with coriander then we add tomato and Rai in tarka .
Except for the annoying music, your videos are excellent! This Mushur Dal was always around in my Bangla bari in Kolkata, on Rashbehari Avenue. My grandmother made it without the Tejpata, but with some fried onions. Same red chili, kalo jeere. Dhone patha is a nice touch. I like to mix my Holud with some water, and pour it sizzling in to the fried onions and oil, to cook slightly before adding the dal. Less raw flavor to the holud. This brings back memories. We had little brass batis with some moori in it and some mushur dal on top as a snack when we were kids. All of us kids in the house would line up with our batis, like beggars and get this dal poured over the moori. So good!
Do you all have an exclusive flat where you shoot the videos. Asking because your kitchen looks sooooo perfect, no mess(obviously) and absolutely no clutter, as if everything is brand new. What do you all do to make it look so perfect? Absolutely love your videos. Its a culinary delight

I think and as done in my family, in the phoron(spice given in the oil), normal jeera(jeera phoron) is the one to go... anyways truly great going guys! really appreciate your work. Great authenticity in most of your dishes which hooks me to your channel even if I see all these food getting cooked at my home everyday 😊
Dear Bong Eats..now it has become a habit..that I keep on humming the tune..that u play in ur videos...may b ..b coz I love ur videos from my heart..Keep it up dear
i am amazed at how professional and creative your videos are. Just on perfect point with every detail and timing!! I have been hunting for Bengali recipes and yours are just perfect! please keep making more! I am half Bengali and horribly deficient in bengali cooking experience, but your videos make things so clear! Thank you!
One request from my side although its not a bengali dish but as you are my favourite food channel and the way you present recipes is just classy. Dal Bukhara or Dal Baluchi. I love both. So either one will do.
Can't stop from seeing all the videos again and again :) Everything on your show is perfect! Also, the utensils that you use are also very nice. PLEASE upload more bengali recipes.
Our version of this daal is unique I think. We use as my grandmother used Radhuni as tempering and green chilli. I will definitely try this one . Thank you
+Shoma Bhowmik Thank you so much. We have videos for kacha aam diye tok dal, bhaja moong'er dal, and a tomato diye mosur dal up on the channel. Do check them out. Another dal recipe is coming up in a few weeks, so stay tuned :-)

I'm going to try this recipe today with roti.
Hey Veena, this is a very light Dal that's perfect with rice and a squeeze of lime on a hot day. It may not taste very good with roti.
I had forgotten some of the details, but as soon as I saw yours I recognised it as the classic Bengali recipe. There are variations with onions and ginger and garlic, and everything else; but this is what I had in my childhood.
