I’m a little late with this comment, but setting the pickup lower increases the clean, bell like quality of a strat tone. Especially if the pickups are quite hot. And especially with the neck pickup. They also say that it increases sustain because the magnets aren’t pulling on the strings as much. Of course it’s all a matter of personal taste.
