      Book and essay’s are different tho tbh, well for me personally. Writing a book is creative and A LOT more fun so the words kinda just spill onto your keyboard, unlike an essay where you have to plan, research and think about that mark you really want to get which can add to the pressure. Of course, a book involves planning and researching but it’s just more fun bc ur using more of your imagination 🤷‍♂️😂

      Try this workbook: 30-day challenge to reprogram your mind and change your life (I think it's on amazon. Marble cover and it's by Dagmara Monroe) I got it from my boss at the beginning of quarantine. You first learn what you are good for, then what our your passions and you go to goal setting and making small actions. I can't tell you how amazing that is. I wrote a book and finished two online courses. Everything is achieved by small actions ! Best of luck pal!

    I’m also writing a book in quarantine. I’m currently 14, and am aiming to finish it by the time I’m 16. I (probably) have adhd so I find it hard to concentrate but I set myself a small, attainable goal of 500 words/day. I love writing, so I often go over it most days but sometimes I can barely write 300 words. (Because school).I wrote 1000 words today. I’m going to try to write more tomorrow using the power of CAFFEINE! I’ve been trying to use coffee to help with concentration, and it seems to be working ok so far. I still find it hard to concentrate though, but I hope to get a diagnosis and some sort of therapy soon to help.
    Update!
    I’m currently on 3842 words. I wrote 2300 words yesterday, and am going to write as my main thing today. Keep writing, everyone! Use the time you have wisely!

I was on deadline for my stories, that I had to write for my class and I had three months to get it done, on top of that, I had homework for my other classes, editing videos and in November, NaNoWriMo , it is not easy, juggling, writing and other things! I totally get it, with the all nighters, I can only do, like two a week. My sleep schedule was messed up. Lol. Loved the video, Christine, I could totally relate to all of these writing video's. Finally, someone who feels my pain. Wait until I'm on deadline for my book, that should be fun, but I had practice, with my class, lol. Christine, you rock, I can't wait to continue catching up on your videos! Keep being assume!

    The "How do you write a short book with multiple POVs" hit me hard. I finished my second draft for my first novel last week, it has 4 POVs and just barely made 63k words because I cut about 5k words during edits. It's rather the opposite problem to you, Christine, I struggle to flesh out the chapters enough to have the weight they need to balance the story.
    I guess for me it's possible to write a shorter book even with multiple POVs because the plot spans years and we check in with the characters from time to time, I don't need to squeeze everything into a few days or describe every day in between in detail. I write the moment(s) I need for plot and/or character development and move on. Also, my book is more character-driven, there are not a gazillion plot lines I have to manage from beginning to end.
    I am very happy for you and look forward to reading your second book as well!

    • @heyitsmace
      @heyitsmace 4 года назад

      Wow! Your book sounds amazing!
      You sound like you know your stuff, so one question: how do you keep the story long enough? I have tried writing novels but they’re always wayyy to short?

    • @Ikataja
      @Ikataja 4 года назад

      @@heyitsmace Thank you! My beta readers seem to like it so far, but then again, they know me personally and are probably somewhat biased.
      I tend to figure things out as I go and have no idea if what I produce is actually "good writing", so please check out other peoples' experiences as well. There are so many good writing books and videos out there that are much better than what I can explain, but here we go:
      This strategy works better for character-driven books, which mine is, but I guess you could adapt the ratio to a plot-driven book as well. I like to interweave plot-heavy chapters with those where we get to know the characters better, how they think and feel, what they like to do in their free time, what motivates them. Let them spend a quiet afternoon at the beach or a night in the club. Allow yourself to flesh out your characters, even if not all the details make it into the story. Does it matter what kind of music a character listens to? Maybe not, but it can give you a better grasp on them and make them more realistic to your readers in turn.
      One of my POVs is a young/teenage boy, so one chapter is him deciding what kind of job he'd like to do. In this case it is important to the plot later on, but first I get to explore what options he has, which of those he likes and dislikes and what leads him to the choice he actually makes. Another POV is an adult man and I can reflect on the choices he has made in the past to get where he is now, how he deals with the consequences and what he wishes had gone differently.
      Some chapters have meetings and/or confrontations between characters, both to further the plot and to see the relationships between the characters. How do they interact? Do they like each other or not? Is that important for the plot or just relevant for this scene? One thing that helped me was to separate the story into chapters and give them a word count. Writing 50k is very daunting (for me at least). Writing a chapter with several hundred words? Yeah, I can do that.
      I don't know if this helps any or if my rambling just causes confusion. Try different methods, use several kinds of story structures, see what works for you. Maybe get a critic partner or at least a buddy to bounce ideas off. Never give up and believe in yourself - you'll get there someday. I failed NaNoWriMo multiple times and thought I could only write short stories, yet here I am, 68k words later and working on my second novel while the first is off with the beta readers.

    Christine!! congrats on being the most productive human during this time!! it was nice (not really) to see that quarantine is affecting others negatively as well.. unlike you, I'm not brave enough to have phone meetings w my therapist so I'm on my own here lol. it'd be cool if you could share more with how you're dealing and coping being stuck inside maybe.. anyways cant wait for the book!! sure it's gonna be awesome :)

    I’m so happy for Christine!! Personally, I’m halfway through editing the second novel I’ve ever written. I’ve written two. I am planning to publish it on Wattpad this summer.

    btw (about the packages), there are sanatizer sprays, which i never knew existed before covid tbh. You should get the alcohol based one because those are the ones that kill viruses. What I do is I just spray any package before bringing it into the apartment, because covid makes me really anxious. There's also a detol sanatizing spray

    I have just started writing my own story (the full idea came to me like 2 days ago). What's your advice for those of us who have just started this journey? Much love💖
