- When it comes to studying in medical school, there are a lot of memorization involved. That means having the ability to memorize effectively will result in more time to cover and study other med school materials. I use Anki, an app popular among my med school friends. In this video I demonstrate how I use the Anki app to help me memorize effectively and faster.
Thanks for watching! Let us know what memorizing techniques you guys use for school or other techniques you guys use.

you inspire me immensely. For years I've been suppressing this aspiration just in due to that conventional fear of not being good enough. You fueled my impulse to do what my heart wants. So thank you. I owe you a lot. Now's my last year in pre-med and hopefully things will go well.
good luck!!
Thanks. Keep making videos cause I badly need them. God bless :)
TheStriveToFit I need to see a waterfall what's your name I need to see you
trina janagap Good Luck hun!!! good for you! :) I COULDNT DO THAT
Masha'Allah u seem clever and organised ... the hardest thing for me is to stick to my day to day schedule
u r so helpful i really like u and ur channel
You're one of few that actually give useful tips that I can use to improve my studying, so thank you so much for that :) Finally some good tips instead of '' highlight this and make things cute'' doesn't work for me at all.
its funny how many med school vloggers blather on about nonsense with very little practical information
In Korean med schools flashcards aren't generally used to study so this is really interesting! 🤔🤔 I should try using flashcards more😘 Thank you for another vlog. Your vlogs are a great motivation to make more videos on my channel ❤️
lovely..
How do you revise in Korea?
Lena!!!! Hi 😁
Neither in kerala (india)
Do you mind sharing Korean study tips?
i like listening to your voice while studying. it makes me calm and productive
I started use Anki after I watched your videos and I'm doing PERFECT for the winter session now! Thanks Jamie:)
I'm studying to be a nurse and I hope this program will help with my anatomy class, thank you for the tip :)
roosjohanna good luck
hey, how did it work for you? :)
Thanks you so much for making videos on RUclips!! You are such an inspiration to me. I am a freshman in high school and aspire to be a doctor because I love science. I see how hard you work and it inspires me so much. Thank you for everything you do!!!
I'm so glad I cam across your page. I'm a junior in college studying for my MCAT and starting a youtube channel. I love your videos, they're very informative and give a better idea of what i'll be doing in the next few years.
I'd love to see a video on how you organise and take notes for medical school :)
Yaaas :)

tomorrow's video (august 13th 12 noon EST) will be on this! :)
Cheers from a med student from Morocco - north Africa
Hi Jamie,
great studying tips! I'm the author of the updated Image Occlusion add-on. I was wondering where that spike in downloads came from, but I guess now I know :). Thanks for the shout-out! Keep up the good work!
Hi! Thanks so much for making the add-on! It's been a huge help and I'm glad to be spreading the word about such a great study tool. I'm using it everyday for my board prep :)
I am finishing my second year of nursing courses, am so happy I found your channel, feeling super inspired during my medsurg rotation! thank you so much for all your tips! also general vibes :)
I have my final medical exams in two weeks. So wish your videos were around when I started out!
Even though I'm going to pharmacy school in the fall, your videos have really helped me feel prepared for the next chapter in my life. Thank you so much!
I've used a flashcards app before and found it very helpful. I just have a problem with the time I spend making them. I find that it's time-consuming.Is this the same thing with you?
heavythinker16 same! it takes me the same amount as making notes i guess consider the time ure writing notes alos as study time since u r going over the content
i use quizlet! easy to link between devices!
you can even download it on your phone! You won't have to use data or wifi when you use it. I find it useful when I'm reviewing the terms right before a test.
yes I use quizlet too!
I make my notes then I make a quizlet from those notes. I find that since I’m going over the content twice, I remember it a lot better. Then about a week later I go over the flash cards to make sure I know the and remind myself the content
I just finished my second year of studying Psychology here in the UK. I had 8 really tough exams but your videos kept me super motivated! Thank you SO much! I wish you all the very best with your STEP exam!
I'm using Anki right now in med school and I LOVE IT. I think every med student should consider using it.
I love how humble you are.
This is so helpful! Thank you for your videos! Im starting med school this fall and your videos have really helped me mentally prepare myself for whats to come :) It has kept my anxiety at bay for now! Keep it up!
Mental Health RN here studying for MCAT. I love your videos/vlogs, the editing and music just got me banging my head while watching lol. Keep it up!
Medical school before the internet. Index cards baby and coffee!
You seem to be very organized!
Anki is definitely something I'd use in pre med! Thanks for sharing the tips💕
you're welcome! let me know what you think!
I just recently found your channel and I am so glad that I did! It helps me out a lot and it motivates me to study better and a lot more. So thank you very much!
I recently found your channel and I loooovvvve itt!!!
DUDE I LOVE ANKI. So happy other people are using it and discovering it :)))
Thanks for the info on the laptop stand. Great tool.
I will take you up on your offer to share info about memorization. Before I do, we must look to Intro to Psychology. Some definitions.... Chunking: Organizing items into familiar, manageable units. Self-reference effect: Information that is relevant to you is processed more deeply & remains more accessible. 3 forms of forgetting: Absent-mindedness, transience (memory decay over time) & blocking (inaccessibility to stored information). 3 forms of distortion: Misattribution (confusing the source information), suggestibility (lingering effects of misinformation) & bias (belief-tainted recollections).
These are important. Proper memorization demands isolating the good from the bad. Next, you need to choose what level of learning you are doing: short term or long term. For short-term memorization, techniques like mnemonics and chunking work great. Long-term learning (i.e. info you want to retain long term) is a trick. It is inevitable, you lose information you do not use on a semi-regular basis (e.g. transience).
Long-term techniques....

This helps immensely especially for my finals coming up in about two weeks and for law school.

Loved how there was that slow-mo bit of music at the very end when you mentioned you'd be back to studying tomorrow. Haahaha - made my day.
Hi! I just wanna say that you are so friendly and nice. It was so relaxing watching your video. plus your study desk is really cool. All the best for your career ahead.
love from India
I'm so glad I found your channel!! You're videos really help so much! Keep up the good work you're almost there!
Got finals in a few days and you inspire me to work hard and stick to my schedule
The appliances you have are so cool, like the tea kettle, the drip thing for the coffee. Could you do a video about what you have and where you bought them? I LOVE your videos btw. You seem like such a chill person. :)
thanks! the video is a great idea & the items are all linked in the description box!
Great video!
I studied in medical school by trying to make everything into a flowchart. This has served me so well in my early days as an intern and resident! These now form the basis to my medical RUclips channel!
(btw I own that same stand!)
Thank you for your videos. After seeing two of them I became a subscriber. Not in med school but I can already see the benefits of your videos. Once again thanks!!!
I feel really sleepy while studying even though I've slept for 8 hours the night before...... any tips?
Aisha Ahmed reduce sleeping time...
Exercise! :) Everyday. Maybe something different everyday if you get bored with the same typical exercise routine. I'm not one to speak since I have yet to get into that exercising regularly routine myself, but the longest I have done that, the more I have noticed that it helps A TON. You have no idea :) Just try to stick to it. The other stuff will come with it - like, reduced tiredness, reduced feeling sleepy even if you don't want to do something, etc. :) Good luck! (And Good Luck to me too! :D)
make sure that whatever you are studying interests you. Keep yourself motivated, and think positive.
Adderall . And im not being funny .
lisa mac no no drugs
Have you made any videos on how you plan out your study schedule?
+laura Yep! Check out this video ruclips.net/video/H9XFLqJ0Xb8/видео.html
Thank you so much for all your helpful videos-- I'm a mature age student doing medical science undergrad, hopefully going on to do grad med in the future. Your content keeps me inspired and gives me a lot of tips and tricks to help with my study.
That honor goes to me. I'm the oldest one here. lm 35.
Greetings from the Philippines.
Hello! :)
That moment when you live and recognize the street where you went to eat ramen haha
I love your videos!! I am currently on my first year of the IB and this app would be superrr helpful!!

I always wished that I had someone to guide me through med school.... I am so glad I found ur channel...just subscribed...thanks for all d tips:)
I wish your videos are brighter because it's quite dark but on some angles it's brighter. Btw, i enjoy your videos.

Hey! Fellow specialty coffee nerd and med student here! Glad I found your channel.
I really like your videos they are super helpful I'm a premed in my last year of biomedical biology! Your videos really help me stay motivated and keep up with good study habits :)
Anki is a great and useful app, and I felt it just saved my bio! Thanks a lot for your recommendation!!
I actually study at home too and a lot of people find it weird lol. I took take naps though >.> I'm prepping for MCAT right now but super encouraged and thanks for sharing Anki. Definitely going to check it out!

I'm at first year of Psychology i Just tried Anki and it's fantastic !
i really adore you.. I'm med stud too but in a first year and I'm kinda lazy to study cause I'm not really interested of basic like biokimia and biomedical things kinda bored for me and its already tired day cause of the schedule of my school really full...
i really hope that i can stay motivated like youuuuuuu luv..luvv.. from indonesia
thank you for the tip!! I've been struggling in college lately and as a premed its been driving me insane. I'm definitely gonna try using that app!
I love your videos you're the best! You give me inspiration when i need it the most💕 I'm in my first year of med school and so far everything has been really good, but sometimes i don't manage my time as well as i want to, you seem to follow your schedule perfectly, please tell me your tips for keeping on track and achieving all your activities planned for the day 🙃
Love your videos. I'm specializing in Radiology and your videos are most helpful!
Thank you for uploading! I really love your videos and you're such an inspiration!
All the best for your STEP!
You are amazing. Your life is how I want my life to be srsly. *>*
Well done for sticking to your study schedule, that is the best feeling ever haha
I know what you mean about feeling lonely during long periods of studying, I'm currently in my last week of 1st year medicine exams and there are days when I only speak or see people at breakfast or dinner - I literally feel like I'm going crazy haha
All the best for your STEP exams - you are going to do great! :) x
Great video with additional examples of how to use Anki. Continue the good work...you will do well on your step. Continue to stay encouraged and positive as you are.
vid quality and edits are amazing! the stand looks dope, i would rather have that then the standing desk haha. and love the techniques!!
I'm in med school too and your videos really motivate me to go study! Good luck on step :)
I'm in 8th grade and I want to be a surgeon. Everyone says I'll change my mind, but I'm 13 and I've been wanting to be a doctor since like 4-5th grade. I know I have a long time before college/ med school. But your videos still inspire me to keep going with my dreams and never give up, no matter how challenging medical school will be. Thank you:)
But I also have a question. My biggest fear is math, which a surgeon probably needs a lot of. What are some tips to be good at math? It's my weakest subject and it scares me, because it might mess with my chances of making it through college and medical school😭
Hey Presley Boler!
I don't know about your curriculum and exams, but what surely helped me ace my maths is practice. Practice practice practice!!
Math is not like other subjects, so every day you come back home you HAVE to practice math. For any doubts, don't be shy to ask you're teacher. Google is also generous in giving questions, just try to do ones related to your curriculum. Don't give up trying. Remember practice makes perfect
Hope this helped
khadija alkiyumi thank you!
Yes!!! Practice practice practice!! Math is more conceptual, so you would have to practice to fully understand concepts. Best of luck!!
I saw my comment from the previous video in your vlog! Thanks again for answering my question! Really love your videos! Good luck with STEP! 😁
Anki sounds similar to Quizlet type of studying. I'm doing my undergrad in nursing and I find it helpful for studying pathophysiology and pharmacology!
Thank you!!!! I'm in nursing school and I think this app is going to be wonderful!!! 😊
I realized this....we're on the same campus!! I'm a nursing student now, your study videos are so helpful😊
congrats on 100k you really deserve it :)
thank you
Thank you so much for introducing this app! It works great for CPA exam memory!
omg thanks so much for the tips. I was going crazy yesterday and a little aggravated cause i was just lost in all the notes i was taking. was litterally so close to chucking the textbooks and and notes at the wall due to frustration.
In the following video could you maybe talk about how you plan on paying for med school. Also are you the first in your family to attend med school ?
Thank you so much for pointing this out!! It's helping so much w/ studying for my chem exams :))
Your videos are keeping me motivated!☺️💖 thanks !
Greeting from Indonesia!!
find your channel just now and i really love it
Hi Jamie! your channel is so inspiring and I keep my fingers crossed for your exams:)
You've mentioned previously that you attend Bible study; could you make a video about it? about your denomination and verses which you find hepful with studying and staying motivated? I'm trying to write my BA thesis, this could be very hepful for me and I guess for others too.
Have a nice day and good luck!
Kasia
I love using online notecards. I prefer Quizlet though because they have an app as well and so instead of taking out your lap top you can just open up the deck on your phone.
Lillian Karroum Anki has iOS and Android apps, too. Although the iOS app is ridiculously expensive afaik, android's free.
This helps sm to study for the PTCE thank you!!
thank you so much for this video! I'm downloading the app and checking into buying that riser for the laptop.
So what is your study routine like? Do you usually write out notes or do you read the books and mainly use anki??
i LOVE these study tip videos! thanks
Well since I'm a medical student I do agree with you....yes we have a busy schedule too😊
you inspire me!!! thank you soo much
Honestly this is the fastest way it’s way better than typing your notes all again
Thanks for anki! Really needed a flash card app..
you are such an inspiration!!
you're amazing! loved your videos so much 💕 good job ❤😊
You and other med students here on RUclips have really inspired me. I am a freshman in college and wanting to be a Doctor but my grades aren't the best right now. I don't receive any financial aid or loans because I am a Daca students which requires me to work a lot more. I live on my own and can't really focus on my grades but I want to succeed as a doctor. But like a said my grades aren't the best. Any tips?
I'm a student at high school. I'd like to become a doctor. Hope you have more videos for all of us
first aid to USMLE step 1 took me 3 days to finish it from cover to cover,3 hours average study(9 hrs in total). i never shade or underline any word,to me its very cumbersome.
Love your video soooo much!!!
It is too helpful.
As a medical student my suggestion is to meditate,do a lot of exercise and drink lots of water to keep yourself hydrated....because drinking water increases oxygen level that helps the neurons to work efficiently....and always maintain a straight upright position while studying...
please do a video on how to taking notes in med school
stay tuned! tomorrow's video will be on taking notes :)
you are a well-organised person.. good!!
I really love your videos!!
definitely will be using these!
First, I would like to tell that even when I recently discovered your Yt channel you really inspired me...
I am from Perú, and I want to be in med school too.
So to finish... Would you recommed us some books that you used to study in a next video?
I asked for this because I really want to be a good one, but my enviroment and the level education is not what a student of med school would like to have 🙄
So, thank you for everything 🤗
may you please show us how you take good lecture notes and text book notes please. Thanks.
can you make a video about how to create an effective study schedule?
Thanks for the mini anki tutorial, so helpful! You should do a bf tag:)
My friend always ask me why don't I study at the library, although it's quiet but i'm constantly distracted by the whisperings and chair-pulling sounds there,so home is the best place to study for me.
I absolutely love all of your pop in pictures & emojis & memes lol so funny
