Thank you for posting this. I doubt this was your intention, but know that your videos have helped me tremendously. I suffer from severe agoraphobia and use your videos as a part of my exposure therapy to get better. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
Thank you very much for sharing that and for watching, I'm very happy that you are able to get more than just entertainment from these videos. I wish you the best and continued improvement!
What a delightful ride, listening to Atlanta rhythem section, rambling man by the Allman's,and OutKast,,great job of incorporating all the famous Atlanta music icons into where they came from in the city.again, what a ride, thanks
Thanks for the pasquel Perez your,I remember my days of traveling these parts.i have never seen the roads less crowded as they were on the video plus how no airplanes were going and coming from hartsfield but I am so thankful for the runway overpass.i have seen planes that you coulgmd reach out the window and grap the landind wheels
Fantastic ride on the 285 Loop. Music selections flowed perfectly with road and I loved the way you mixed the songs together. One of my all time favorites of yours now.
Excellent music choices! Great ride! BTW I remember my mom and grandparents talking about Perez circling the city! They were lifelong Braves fans and so am I. ☺
In 1985, Pascual Perez of the Braves did a couple of complete rides around 285. Unfortunately, he was the scheduled starting pitcher that day and had to be scratched when he didn't arrive at the stadium in time.
Hah! I’ve never heard this story before! Perez was a big deal in 1985 too! He was the Ace of the staff......I remember those days when the Braves were abysmal, yet they had great players (Dale Murphy, Bob Horner, Glenn Hubbard, etc.) and thanks to WTBS.....their games were shown nationwide, at least for those who had cable in them days......I was 10 years old in 1985 and my household was one of lucky ones that had Cable. Watched a ton of Braves games, along with Cubs games and my beloved Tigers. I grew up in Grand Rapids, which I know Jim, you’ve done a ride-by on I-196 in downtown a few years back, and US-131.....thanks for that! I live in the Southeast now, but GR will always be home to me no matter where I live. If you’re ever back up in Grand Rapids anytime in the future, you should traverse the M-6 (Paul Henry Fwy).....it’s 20 miles and you get to pass that awesome interchange with US-131 as you detailed in your original video. It’s a great shortcut from Lansing to Holland if you don’t want to bother with downtown traffic.
I remember it as it happened,I was listening to the pregame show, lots of angst if he was going to make it ,obviously he never got there in time to pitch,Perimeter Perez became a star without throwing a pitch,he was a good pitcher for that time frame,I can't remember if they won or lost but they did win the division with Bob Horner and Dale Murphy and some pretty good pitchers not to the level of Maddox, smoltz, glavine but more than adequate
Best Atlanta video in the history of videos! That outcast song reminded me of my childhood where my family and I use to listen to that song every time in the car. It was good!
Nice ride! 285 reminds me of 270 in Columbus- but a lot larger! Wow. Nice ride! Also- great selections of music from all genres! Really great to see this road in its' entirety!
When my mom and I went to Savannah last year, we got into some I-75 traffic up near Marietta and considered taking 285 but decided to stick it out, and the traffic cleared up but thanks for showing me what I missed!
I love the speedup/ slowdown moments in sync with the music. Funny, but when I try to do that in my car, lots of people just honk. "Turn off the radio and drive!"
I enjoyed this! Thanks for doing it and posting it. I wondered at how little traffic you encountered while orbiting the city... then, HA! You did this on a Sunday afternoon! Very smart. (I live in Doraville and have to navigate Spaghetti Junction twice a day!)
Great video Jim! Nice touch timing the songs to the places you pass. And speaking of, nice not going with the tracks the bands are known for (although "Ramblin' Man is a must!). Thanks for the "warm up!
The perimeter reminds me alot of the beltway here in Houston. Both are a huge loop, they both have i believe 8 interstate crossings, both have the airport right next to it. If only ours wasn't a dang toll lol.
Awesome mix of tunes. Loved the Doraville song as I never heard it before. I miss ole Atl. I used to cruise Roswell rd in the mid 90s in my youth. Great fun video lots of memories. This is a major road for atlanta
4:30 FREEZE! This is the first time I saw that in a FreewayJim video. Great video, Jim! Out of all the four songs, I know one of them quite well. Excellent choice! You should do a video of the opposite direction. :)
Jim, this is a fantastic video! I love your videos in Atlanta! Have you considered taking some videos on the southside, primarily the I-75 corridor in Clayton, Henry and Spalding? Keep the videos coming! Can't wait for the next one!
Thanks, there's nothing really unique or interesting about those areas from a road standpoint but I'm sure I'll film I-75 on the south side at some point.
Sounds great! It may be worth noting this from what I've seen on I-285 - the pavement changes appear to signify directional changes. Asphalt is on the north and south sides of the Perimeter and concrete is on the west and east sides. Changing from one direction to another seems to correspond to the road type. Hard to get lost on the Perimeter!
Jarrett Bell That also could be that the east and west sides still have the original mid-late 1960's concrete pavement and have only been expanded once, which did not require any work done to the original four lanes as the extra 4 lanes were added to the median. The top and bottom sides of I-285 are much older and have been expanded and in the case of the south side, reconfigured on a grander scale.
Nice ride and its equal to the I-495 beltway in Washington or the I-695 beltway in Baltimore. perhaps GADOT should consider HOT lanes or tolled truck lanes to reduce congestion
+Freewayjim yeah i thought about that and I'm thinking i might shoot the video in 2 passes. I'll go out in the early morning and start at the east side and do half of the loop, then come back in the evening and do the other half. Then I'll just edit the two sessions together into a single video.
Old video so I hope you see this, how long did it take to do the whole loop, I’ve been thinking of doing this myself to get a better feel for my city and all the great things to see and experience but I don’t have 20 hrs to go drive on the highway lol
The entire length around I-285 is 64 miles so it should take around an hour or a little less depending on traffic and driving habits. I mentioned this in the closing credits at 15:03, the 64 mile ride took me 57 minutes.
Freewayjim First time I drove I saw it I was gobsmacked. It's enormous ! I was lucky enough to spot a Delta 757 touching down when I came out the other side. Great video as usual. Your work is beyond comparison. You plan on doing a video of GA400 north of Buckhead one day? Though to be truthful there's not much to see on the highway apart from trees and the sound barrier.
Rohan Scott Thank you very much! yes, there isn't much to see on GA-400 at all north of I-285 but I could see doing a video starting at I-85 and going a little ways north, that's a possibility.
Hehe I was down in Atlanta last week and I discovered that hardly anyone does 55 mph.. But seriously I had no issues navigating I-285 albeit a friend who was supposed to be following me got lost several times.
When you have two full beltways around your city and neither of them have to share highway designations with other highways, also there's a partially built 3rd beltway :D
hiya jim! i'm making a video about ol' Perimeter Pascual, and i'd like to use this as B-roll about his famous drive. not making any money off of it, just for fun. is that alright with you, do you need anything for it? thanks, ~lys
I will go all the way around interstate 285 outer loop counter clockwise this year with my dad Micah Nathan and my stuffed animals in the Toyota Corolla from u.s 78 to u.s 78.
Speaking of loops highways, in Montréal, québec, Canada , we have not a highway that dose all the countour of the city (or island) contrare to Atlanta. If we could have one built, the autoroute métropolitain ( Metropolitain highway ) will have less trafic including the autoroute décarie ( Decarie's highway ). There's just one problem. Montreal is a old city and there isn't mutch places to wide highways or built new ones and the other problem is that we have a low budget. Anyways great video FJW, don't forget to check the grand prix of Canada in montreal! ( F1 )
Pretty awesome you used Collective Soul in one of your videos, brings me back memories of NHL 2001. Anyway when Charlotte finishes 485, would you consider doing that loop?
Thank you, That's a rather uninteresting ride for the most part, not something I'd be interested in doing, nor do I know when I'll be in Charlotte again with the time to do that.
Hey do U have any videos of southern New Mexico Arizona and Texas, because I'm driving to Los Angeles tomorrow and would like to see what I'm about to drive into
I drove back from LA via the I-40 corridor so I don't have anything from the southern parts of those states. I do have Houston and San Antonio from 2010 if that helps, I have playlists for each city.
Plenty of trees all around the ring road. Is this some sort of beautification project/noise reduction/ROW isolation? Does it lose all trees on winter allowing more views? I like longer videos like this one.
Thanks, no the trees are normal for the area, it's always been like that, I've never really noticed if the trees thin out in winter or not as we really don't have normal winters here, more like 3.5 seasons as opposed to 4.
It's natural - no beautification project, etc. It does thin out some during fall/winter months but there are some evergreens. Atlanta is a city carved out of the forest - very green, hilly with a lot of creeks and the start of rivers.
And you forgot WHY the top end sucks traffic-wise; Interstates 20, 75, and 85 ALL have Interchanges with the Perimeter here - and they are all significant, and not just to the Perimeter, either. (When Amazon Arlington is finished, I-395's seven interchanges in the area are going to look like the Top End.)
Freewayjim Yes it would be cool if you could film the Springfield Interchange. Never seen it in the flesh but if its as awesome as it looks I'm sure you could do it justice.
Rohan Scott I have filmed it going through in several different directions in 2009 and 2012. Check the Washington DC playlist. ruclips.net/p/PL0123AA362201FC0F
Great video! You know Jim, I live in Atlanta and for the life of me I don't know why they won't upgrade I-285 like they do highways in other cities. 285 should have lights, new concrete surface, new sound barriers. Just a few years ago they upgraded I-465 in Indianapolis and they're smaller than Atlanta. It seems like everybody else is doing highway projects, but us. What are your thoughts?
No, I think your brain is OK, They are 11 feet wide as opposed to the standard 12 feet, I-75 and I-85 north of the Brookwood interchange to I-285 are also like that.
Freewayjim MoDOT is starting to use the same tack in St. Louis. In fact, you saw some of it last summer, 13-01, from 3:18 to 3:58. Widening partly using actual new pavement and partly narrowing 12 foot lanes to 11 feet. It acid test was when I-64 was closed in 2007 and 2008 in central St. Louis County for reconstruction, I-44 between almost I-55 and I-270 was widened from 8 to 10 lanes via lane narrowing, and I-70 between I-170 and I-270 was widened from 6 to 8 lanes the same way. When it showed to turn out alright, even though it was returned to the configuration after the I-64 reconstruction was done, MoDOT got light bulbs. Starting this summer, I-64 from west of 270 through west St. Louis County will be widened from six to eight lanes by 11-footing.
countenanceblog Atlanta started doing it before the 1996 Olympics in order to squeeze the HOV lane in there on I-75 & I-85, in I-285's case, to squeeze another regular lane.
Freewayjim gracias por la respuesta.....me interesa preguntarte lo siguiente:1-¿ el gobierno federal aporta dinero para el mantenimiento de las autopistas, o cada estado es el responsable ?
messi the king Both federal and state money (mainly from fuel tax) is used to maintain the Interstates. I do not know the exact percentages as far as who pays what.
For the song Hey - Ya, you should have used Straya. it is the same song just everything Australia :) Great Video though... who is watching this in lockdown...?
Hello Freewayjim, I got some questions for you. You've definitely driven in almost every major city in the united states. Out of all the cities, which had the worst/best drivers, which city did you enjoy the most and is it true that atlanta drivers are the absolute worst in the country? No offense to the latter part.
The best drivers were in the SF Bay area, I was from out of state, sometimes not sure where I was going and nobody honked at me or impatiently blew by me, especially in the city of SF, which is a tricky place to get around if you are not familiar with it. The worst drivers are in any of the major northeast cities from Washington DC to Boston and everything in between, Atlanta drivers are also not very good, very erratic.
While I would like to say that was an excellent looking and sounding video, unfortunately I don't care for Atlanta. I live in New Orleans now. So you know why.
prntscr.com/4iqdc6 In the years to come, whenever that person is asked where they were born, they can say I-285 xD That will be very ironic if that person turns out to be a roadgeek.
Thank you for posting this. I doubt this was your intention, but know that your videos have helped me tremendously. I suffer from severe agoraphobia and use your videos as a part of my exposure therapy to get better. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Fantastic ride on the 285 Loop. Music selections flowed perfectly with road and I loved the way you mixed the songs together. One of my all time favorites of yours now.
Thank you very much! The soundtrack came to me fairly easy for once :)

Aaron Dersnah i read that story when googled 285!!!
The channel Baseball Historian just put out a video about this. It’s fascinating.
My city.
Glad to be here with you Jim!
Best Atlanta video in the history of videos! That outcast song reminded me of my childhood where my family and I use to listen to that song every time in the car. It was good!
Thank you!
Great video and nice selection of musicians... one of your best vids. Keep up the great work
Thank you very much!
Great job with the video as usual, Jim. Yours is the flagship freeway channel for a reason. The music choice on this video was awesome.
Thank you! much appreciated.
It has a few good interchanges but nothing compared to what we have here in Dallas (+all of Texas)... Great video as always... Love Ur song selection
Thanks, yeah Texas interchanges are a whole other level.
Nice ride! 285 reminds me of 270 in Columbus- but a lot larger! Wow. Nice ride! Also- great selections of music from all genres! Really great to see this road in its' entirety!
Thank you!
i liked 3 of the 4 tracks especially that "ramblin' man" at the end and a nice ride around I-285!
When my mom and I went to Savannah last year, we got into some I-75 traffic up near Marietta and considered taking 285 but decided to stick it out, and the traffic cleared up but thanks for showing me what I missed!
Thanks!
Great video, and even better editing!!
Thank you very much!
7:08 Haha that song has become a meme! Nice songs Jim, Seriously I love watching your videos!
Thanks!
When ever I go to Atlanta with my dad, we always drive I-285, mainly the part from either I-675 or I-75 North to Cobb Cloverleaf.
Thanks Jim! I might be visiting Atlanta next year! This makes me excited! You're one of my favorite RUclips users
Thank you for that, hope you enjoy your stay here.
7:53 great selection on OutKast “Hey Y’all “ they are from that area East Point College Park
Thanks, I was definitely going for that connection.
Thanks jim, I enjoy the passenger side view from your videos, it's a lot to see when your not the driver.
I love the speedup/ slowdown moments in sync with the music. Funny, but when I try to do that in my car, lots of people just honk. "Turn off the radio and drive!"
Ha! I try to do that with all the videos, I do think it adds to the viewing experience.
I enjoyed this! Thanks for doing it and posting it. I wondered at how little traffic you encountered while orbiting the city... then, HA! You did this on a Sunday afternoon! Very smart. (I live in Doraville and have to navigate Spaghetti Junction twice a day!)
+ericlwatts Thanks, yes like most big cities you have to pick your spots with the traffic, thanks for watching!
Great video Jim! Nice touch timing the songs to the places you pass. And speaking of, nice not going with the tracks the bands are known for (although "Ramblin' Man is a must!). Thanks for the "warm up!
Thanks, glad you liked it! I try :)
Very good stuff. I enjoyed the ride. Good information and creativity.
Thank you very much!

Great video, lots of infos! Congratulations for your incredible work on this one.
Thank you very much!
If you ever get around to Columbia, South Carolina, SC DOT has done a good job on the rehabilitation on I-20 in Northwest Richland County.
A well done video as always. You mastered the technique of matching the map, exit numbers and music to make a well done video.
Thank you!
Thanks Jim for another entertaining drive!
Thanks for watching!
WOW I'm so late but I remember asking you months ago to do this. Can't believe it. I really enjoyed this one.
Thanks, glad you liked it!
So do you stay in the Tucker area or were you just referencing that you were back where you started?
taykh Just a reference point.
4:30 FREEZE! This is the first time I saw that in a FreewayJim video.
Great video, Jim! Out of all the four songs, I know one of them quite well. Excellent choice! You should do a video of the opposite direction. :)
I think I've done it before but it's been a while, lol. Thanks, I'm sure I'll do the opposite direction at some point.
Jim, this is a fantastic video! I love your videos in Atlanta! Have you considered taking some videos on the southside, primarily the I-75 corridor in Clayton, Henry and Spalding? Keep the videos coming! Can't wait for the next one!

Fun ride Jim - I really liked the Collective Soul cut.
Thanks, glad you liked that track.
Nice video, Freewayjim. I love driving on the West Side; 285 rides very fast there, LOL.
Thanks, and it usually is indeed!
No problem.
Your channel best on this site! Thank U for the dream on wheels!
Thank you very much for watching!
Great video and great song selections!
Thank you very much!
I love your videos Jim!!!!!!!
Thank you for watching!
Nice ride, I've been waiting for this video to come out. Thanks
Thanks Jeff!
Nice ride and its equal to the I-495 beltway in Washington or the I-695 beltway in Baltimore. perhaps GADOT should consider HOT lanes or tolled truck lanes to reduce congestion
I like the somewhat light traffic as opposed to 85!! That 33B that connects to I 85 is a beast though!!!!!!!
RIDIN IN A TANK ON 285 ‼️‼️
I lived in the Emorrhoid area from 1995 to 1998, lol so my neck of the woods was purt near yours.
I did the whole thing clockwise once appx. 15 yrs ago. Started and ended at Spag. Jctn.
I will produce a video for my local highway, "The Perimeter", this year too :-D
+Trans Canada Phil Just remember, the lighting will suck for almost half the ride, lol.
+Freewayjim yeah i thought about that and I'm thinking i might shoot the video in 2 passes. I'll go out in the early morning and start at the east side and do half of the loop, then come back in the evening and do the other half. Then I'll just edit the two sessions together into a single video.

"Perimeter Perez". I remember that Pasqual himself had a sense of humor about it.
great vid, that runway and taxiway structure is huge.
Thanks, yes it's very impressive in person.
Freewayjim First time I drove I saw it I was gobsmacked. It's enormous ! I was lucky enough to spot a Delta 757 touching down when I came out the other side. Great video as usual. Houston? I hear Grand Parkway’s gonna take awhile.
@@theroaddudemn6482 yep
Maybe a Roswell Rd/Alpharetta Highway drive could be done someday. That would have a lot of things to see.
Eh, doesn't really float my boat.
hiya jim! i'm making a video about ol' Perimeter Pascual, and i'd like to use this as B-roll about his famous drive. not making any money off of it, just for fun. is that alright with you, do you need anything for it? thanks, ~lys
Hi, yeah you can use what's here, just give me credit for the footage, thanks for asking and good luck with your project.
This Video isn't cool it's Ice Cold Awesome Video Jim.
Thank you very much!
Sadly as an ATLien I have managed to make this trip completely around I-285 only once. Fun times
Love the music mix!!!!!! ATL!!!!!!!! My city!!!
Thanks!
I will go all the way around interstate 285 outer loop counter clockwise this year with my dad Micah Nathan and my stuffed animals in the Toyota Corolla from u.s 78 to u.s 78.

Loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pretty awesome you used Collective Soul in one of your videos, brings me back memories of NHL 2001.
Anyway when Charlotte finishes 485, would you consider doing that loop?
Thanks! I doubt I'd do I-485 around Charlotte, aside from one major and a couple minor interchanges it's not very interesting.
There needs to streetlights. This would be really bad in the rain/dark. Especially cause of all the trees.
Andyface79 I am being affected by that as we speak
This was fun to watch!
Thanks. glad you enjoyed it!
Very cool. Do you think you could do a complete ride around of I-485 in Charlotte?
Thank you, That's a rather uninteresting ride for the most part, not something I'd be interested in doing, nor do I know when I'll be in Charlotte again with the time to do that.
Nice ride. Surprised you did not use Georgia Satellites for the soundtrck
Thanks, I don't really care for their music and I had the four I used come to me pretty quickly.
nice work ....I wish it was moving this fast right now lol
Thanks!
4:30 LIKE FREEZE!!!!!!!! What was up with that, its cool, I like it!!! :)
Just going along with the music.
Loved it!
So that loop of I-285 awesome but you should film for I-75, I-85, I-20, and I-285.
You know when is out town going somewhere with film another states.
I have filmed those roads and then some Eloy, check the Atlanta Playlist.
Hey do U have any videos of southern New Mexico Arizona and Texas, because I'm driving to Los Angeles tomorrow and would like to see what I'm about to drive into

You should check out video 14-04 to see thick lush trees along a non-freeway, Atlanta is one of the greenest cities you'll see in that manner.
It's natural - no beautification project, etc. It does thin out some during fall/winter months but there are some evergreens. Atlanta is a city carved out of the forest - very green, hilly with a lot of creeks and the start of rivers.

(When Amazon Arlington is finished, I-395's seven interchanges in the area are going to look like the Top End.)
I didn't "forget" anything, I don't go too deep on the annotations, people are here to watch the road, not my comments.
Nice to see the interstate that i simultaneously love and hate in a better “less trafficked” light. I have a love hate relationship with 285 😂
Nice! Another good video will be a complete ride around the "Capital Beltway."
When and where are you going for 2014?
Heading up to NH, won't have a chance to a complete video of the beltway but hope to get some of it.
Freewayjim
To New Hampshire?
You going to the "almost" complete Q-Bridge and interchange in New Haven? Are you going to film a drive of Hartford?
Tyler Grouplud It all depends on the lighting conditions and weather as to what I film.
I-285 will get some upgrades eventually and when it does it will be awesome. Check out www.revive285.com to see some conceptual plans.
Freewayjim can you please do a rerun of this video? With the same music On The New Year Jan. 1? Please???
I have a video idea. Do the Downtown Connector in both directions. Then, fade out on the freedom parkway.
Hey, what's up?
Awesome video :)
Thank you!
This might be just my brain messing with me, but are the lanes on the top end between 85 and 75 substandard width?
Is it just me, or does the song "Hey Ya!" by Outkast sound like Adam Sandler...
Next time you are in D. C, Do the George Washington memorial parkway.
Even though the vid is sped up some, you can tell the guy is driving way fast.
Check the numbers at 14:58, 64 miles traveled in 57 minutes, that's about 67 MPH on average, not really way fast.
¿ por que tanto tiempo sin nuevos videos ?????????
It was a long ride to make a complete circle, each video requires different treatment, some are longer than others.
I do not know the exact percentages as far as who pays what.
messi the king The brand is irrelevant to me, whatever is close by really, gas here is around $4 USD per gallon.
For the song Hey - Ya, you should have used Straya. it is the same song just everything Australia :)
Great Video though... who is watching this in lockdown...?
LOL!
It was cool!!!!!!!
Cool
so is i-285 the is buiest interstate in georgia
I think the Downtown Connector (I-75/I-85) has got it beat.
Ayahnia Jackson it's the most dangerous in the world tho
American roads are 👌👌👌
While I would like to say that was an excellent looking and sounding video, unfortunately I don't care for Atlanta. I live in New Orleans now. So you know why.
I'm sorry to hear that ;)
prntscr.com/4iqdc6 In the years to come, whenever that person is asked where they were born, they can say I-285 xD
That will be very ironic if that person turns out to be a roadgeek.
Actually, she was named Peri, short for Perimeter.
