Washing your underwear in a washing machine is a very American(Western) thing. I'm Nigerian and we wash our underwear by hand too. I can't speak for all Africans but THE average Nigerian family still washes their clothes by hand. I even thought all women washed their underwear by hand😂.

If you add a disinfectant like Clorox, baking soda, or vinegar...then it's fine. We let it soak for 5-10 mins, put extra detergent and disinfectant, then rinse twice or thrice depending.
