#aviation #edit Hey everyone. It's been a while since the last edit. I've been quite busy with some stuff but hopefully i'll have more time in near future.
I love the third generation because we were just starting to figure out what worked from the hobgoblins of the first and second generations (and there were so many), yet not quite enough that they all look the same, which started to occur with the fourth generation. The third generation designs looked refined while still being very different from each other.
"They all look the same" Not really. A few of them follow the same design principles. F-15 and F-14 follow the same principle of twin engine jet designed for high speed performance. F-16 and F-18 follow the same principle of leading edge designed for slow speed dogfight performance. Then there's Eurofighter which looks nothing like anything else. Also Gripen. And whole bunch of russian jets which have their own unique look to them that can't be mistaken for western jets. So no, they aren't that uniform.
@@Laerei eh, save for the swept wings the platforms of most 4th gen’s are very similar, to the point that pilots even today struggle sometimes with identifying them.
@minnesotan_F16C f 16 didnt exist in the vietnam war tho soo... like its the same as saying that the f16 cant kill a F22. They just arent the same era/generation.
the wild late-teenage, early 20s students of fighter jets. fresh into the world, they didn't quite know what they were gonna be but they'd just started figuring out what direction they wanted to go. These are the fighter jets that partied hard, went fast, and made a hell of a lot of noise
man I love the F-4 Phantom. Ever since I was a little, its been my favorite fighter jet. Saw it in the video game battlefield vietnam, and it was like love at first sight lmao
The actual top speed of MiG 25 and its son-MiG 31, are Mach 3.2, however the Soviet flight manual didn't encourage the pilot to use the maximum speed except the emergency situation, like bailing out from enemy SAM or in a intercept mission against SR 71, since it would certainly lead to a malfunction of the engine. Still, these plane have already owned an impressive cruise speed (more than Mach 2 without using afterburner).
No plane can hit Mach 2 without afterburner. The MiG that hit Mach 3 had to be condemned and scrapped and only hit Mach 3 for around 8 seconds before one of its engines gave out
@@bobdaniels9056 lol cruise speed of MiG 25 is Mach 2.35 and it can maintain that speed at the range of more than 1600 km. MiG 31 also have the cruise speed of Mach 2.35. Or you're suggesting that both plane can maintain afterburner for nearly an hour?
that was only really for the earlier versions, the MiG-25RD/PD had the R-15s that were built for actual use by the MiG-25, alongside other upgrades to the armament and radar
4th gen may have best performance, 5th gen best technology, and 2nd gen the best innovation (for the time), but 3rd generation had the peak aesthetics + performance balance.
F-14 3rd Gen fighter. A Doppler radar (not 4th gen pulse-doppler like F-15, but like 3rd Gen F-4) that had to be operated by WSO/RIO (like a 3rd Gen F-4, unlike a single seat F-15C or a Su-27). It did not have a thrust to weight ratio greater than 1:1 (like 4th gen F-16, F-15).

Same applied with tanks before they all used the winning formula to make them all look the same with minor increments in design change

3rd and 4th Gen will always have a special place in my heart
I love how 3rd generation planes look like cruder versions of their 4 gen counter-parts, like the viggen and gripen.

So between 3rd gen and 4th gen, where the heck is the F-14? That beast deserves something of it's own.
A and B were technologically 3rd gen, design and performance wise 4th gen. So pretty much 3.5 gen. D-variant that came later was truly 4th gen.
genious

YAY!!!
actually, the maximum speed of the MiG-25 was mach 3.2. it couldn't, however, sustain that speed, because it caused extensive damage to it's engines.

Harrier II my favourite jet
Now 1st gen (maybe include some wunderwaffes?)
I saw you sneak the Ja-37 in there, he’s a fourth gen.
