Something I heard Adam Neely say really stuck and it matches very well here: "Repetition legitimizes." No matter how shitty a melody might sound, repeat it enough times (especially since you'll do slight variations along the way) and it starts sounding pretty nice. 😄

This is actually kind of common in production setups, they're set up to control different programs in the background (or on different screens, if you have those)

Really, though, you can completely change the sound with a simple tempo change.

guitar distortions on bass are a great way to get filth out of it, what is impressive though is getting a beastly clean tone that sits in a mix properly while still having _M A S S_ .
This is a really good practice that I use a lot. Taking sounds and progressions that lies way outside your comfort zone and just turning it into music that is actually good. You learn a lot from doing that, rather than staying within what you already know.
The original melody reminds me of something you would find at an 70s label that produce library music, stuff like Bruton Music or KPM music. Seriously, every single time I listen to this, it reminds me of library music.
A couple takeaways from this video: there really ARE no wrong notes in jazz, and anything can be metal if you play it aggressively enough. But being more serious, it did give me a couple interesting thoughts/proposals. The first is that melody's strength is universal, translating across whatever genre the tune is in; second is that genre might simply be a construction made of specific harmonies. Of course, you might reasonably say that the purpose and feel of a melody relies on its harmonic relations- like, Rob's first variation of the tune makes me feel like I'm absentmindedly checking my stock options as my yacht sails into the sunset, whereas the second one makes me feel like I'm making my entrance for a two out of three submissions match in the main event of WrestleMania. I dunno. All that maybe too simple or obvious, but wanted to comment on the idea. :)
