    I remember being told on this channel that the SIR Greninja ex was overpriced and had to come down at some point (back when it was below $200), lol. Turns out the opinion that a card is "too expensive" doesn't actually matter vs the current English market.

    Comparing spheal to ceruledge artworks......😅

  • @GoodCleanTCG
    @GoodCleanTCG День назад +12

    Is the explanation not that some cards are simply more desirable than others? It’s no different with SIR’s..the more desirable Pokemon/artworks generate the highest demand for collectors and investors which in turn drives the price up. If the Japanese and English markets were true apples to apples comparisons then your logic would apply. But these are two entirely different markets that function differently. Yes, similarities exist but that doesn’t mean similarities MUST exist in all areas. In my estimation, it’s the “investor” culture that’s so prevalent in the current English market that create these anomalies in value.

But there are plenty of times that stuff over there is high and we don't care about it. A lot of the waifu's for example.

  • @EeveelutionaryTree196
    @EeveelutionaryTree196 День назад +1

    It's very simple: I would rather pay a small premium to have Ceruledge over Mesprit. Other people are willing to pay a big premium to have Ceruledge over Mesprit.
    Your argument is literally "Why is 1st edition Base Set Charizard more expensive than 1st edition Base Set Magneton? They're the same pull rates!" There is more demand for Charizard than Magneton. There is more demand for Ceruledge than Mesprit.

    • @Ansem_SOD13
      @Ansem_SOD13 День назад +1

      Not really. The same thing happened with Japanese in the past. Suddenly Japanese prices were spiking and everyone and their mother wanted in. Now Japanese went down and People don't care anymore. Then English started spiking all of a sudden and now everyone and their mother wants in.
      Interest in these cards is largely decided by value and it's sad.

    • @MrMongerty
      @MrMongerty День назад

      Yeah, maybe he should do a comparison between the markets, because obviously they don't correlate that much. The actual gameplay seems to matter more in Japan, while I would bet that English sets have 4:1 collectors to players. Artwork and the subject Pokemon clearly matter more than playability in the West.

  • @monkey39128

    Ok, but it’s a combination of these things, right?
    ceruledge is probably a fan favourite from this generation which a lot of people were waiting on an IR/SIR release of…so it’s a fan favourite and a lot of those fans only collect English.
    You really do need to include the fact that a bunch of huge pokemon buying nations don’t want Japanese language cards
    Plus I don’t think spheal and mesprit have the same draw personally 🤷🏼‍♂️ so I don’t see the relevance.
    Also, the price difference completely throws off the odds, a Japanese box is £30 and you’re guaranteed 3 ARs but a box of surging sparks is like £140 quid atm and you’re expecting/hoping for 2 or 3 IRS.
    Let’s say with postage from Japan you can get 3 to 4 boxes of Japanese for the same price of 1 English box.
    So that’s a lot more chance you’re gonna hit a ceruledge for the same price.
    Plus we live in the modern age so you don’t even have to ship boxes back, you let Japanese people open them for cheap in their own country and then list them on eBay 🤷🏼‍♂️ super easy to access Japanese sellers now.
    Also, some people have been in this sphere for a while and don’t wanna gamble and rip packs. So probably more people trying to buy singles. The mentality is different, ‘buy the ceruledge for £40 or open 9 packs for the same price and hope for that exact card?”
    So i think the price difference makes complete sense personally 🤷🏼‍♂️

  • @lukzymatee9977
    @lukzymatee9977 День назад +4

    Here’s another way to look at it. Surging sparks is 240 usd a box which is about 5-6x higher than the Japanese equivalent. English is more sought on a global scale aswell. Surging sparks has 2x as many it’s as super electric breaker has of ar’s so that then makes it another 2x as hard to pull. So the ceruledge ar being $4 & the English equivalent being $40 makes it undervalued. 4 x 6 = 24 x 2 = 48. if you want to use your flawed logic…

    • @lukzymatee9977
      @lukzymatee9977 День назад +3

      Your whole take on whether or not a card is too expensive based on pull rates is just stupid. All that matters is how many people want a card. Supply & demand. Otherwise everything would be the same price. Terrible take

  • @ZacharyGalloway

    Comparing Japanese market to English or any other language for that matter is asinine. People love collecting these cards. "if they were that good they would be expensive everywhere".... Really? I get it you play the game and only see "value" in playable cards but your way out of touch when it comes to the majority of the Pokémon hobby being collectors. Its a different country let alone different language and i don't care for any other language cards cheaper or not I only collect English. Its an open market and until people stop buying them assigning the current value then they go up. You can "manipulate" it all you want but if no one buys them they go down either way. Why not show the other side of Japanese "waifu" cards being way more expensive? Because it doesn't matter that's what they like and value them higher... Pack rippers and collectors either sealed, graded or raw are the only reason Pokémon TCG is where it is now.
