Shane I love all you Powerapp Video!! i'm now onto PA #5 and doing some really cool stuff. These videos are soo good to come back to for reference - THANKS
I AM SHOCKED!! Not about you, Shane. Your videos are great and very helpful! When I started playing around with PowerApps and started watching your videos, some things were a little odd. I was constantly getting syntax errors and did not understand why. Today I found out. Microsoft, for reasons I cannot understand, decided that it was a good idea to use different characters within the formulas, depending on the used browser language!! So if your browser is set to English (strangely no language selection inside the PowerApps portal and ignoring the language set in the user account settings in Office 365) comma is used, so RGBA(255, 255, 255, 1) in German semicolon is used, so RGBA(255; 255; 255; 1) No wonder my formulas were not working! And due to my screen resolution, I didn’t see the little dot over the comma before today. But why?? I realize that this must come from Excel. Same thing there, BUT Excel is very very old and for compatibility reasons they never changed that, although using localized characters - and even more shockingly - function names, was never a good idea. Anyway, PowerApps is not Excel. So why continue a bad practice in a new tool?? Do you have any idea?
FYI - For using a SharePoint list instead of an excel table, I found that in the second dropdown, the data type also has to be Result (instead of Value). (It also then requires a value in each dropdown, auto-selecting the first available row instead of leaving it blank for the user to select an option. Not sure yet how to fix that issue, but I'm still learning.)
Hey Gideon I have been approached about writing a book but it all changes so fast I don’t think it would be valid long. 😑 Instead I have the classes at training.powerapps911.com to help you learn.
Hi Shane, thanks for your great work.putting in front of us in a simple mannner and I am sure you have learned hard way .Lots of research has gone into it. Thanks
Hi Shayne, this will be very helpful when we map clients chart of accounts (or Product List) for example: Account Code/Name: 2000/000 - Motor Vehicles @ Cost Report Type: Balance Sheet (or Income Statement) Level 1: Assets (Liabilities ; Equity) Level 2: Non-Current Assets (Current Assets) Level 3: Fixed Assets And then after the account has been mapped it pulls through to a SQL Table that is imported in Power BI. Also after the account is mapped it gets removed from the dropdown in PowerApps. This is very handy for reporting purposes for things like mapping products in product category and - subcategories, or projects or employees in different groups. Would be great if you can do a video like that
Hei shane! Good video. I have one question. i have sharepoint list in which i have two dropdowns which i want to update for example from power apps .If i want to add more items in tht particular column of list .is tht possible ?
Day one of learning PowerApps. So glad I found this video. Subscribed immediately as this is exactly what I need to build a powerful estimating tool. Thanks! Let me know if there are any videos that can combine this idea with adding values created in drop-downs continually while it builds an estimate in the background.
Hi Shane, thanks for your videos, they're very helpful. Can you please show us how can we navigate into screens by selecting the dropdown items? Thanks
Hi Shane, Thanks for the Great videos / Tutorials, there really easy to follow and understand, I only started this week using Powerapp and you have helped me out a hell of a lot so far :) Please can you do a video to show how to create a PowerApp to collect information then store the details on a local device until the devices has a WIFI connection and then have an option to sync the data once the device is on WiFi.
Will do thanks, I have a small internal project I am trying to achieve which will hopefully help me learn and be productive at the same time. I am in the process of creating a sales order form, that once submitted gets sent for approval, and once approved sends an email to the accounts team and saves the form in a folder on O365 Sharepoint.......might be a little ambitious as a starter project, but worth having a crack.
Hi Shane - your videos are awesome! There is so much that I learn not just from watching them, but also they way you explain and demonstrate the concepts. I had a really noob question - if Im an external consultant developing an app from a customer, which account should I use? I would not be part of the Office 365 list - so would they have to make a separate account for me which they are then forced not to close (even after I exit); or is there just another way. My request is for you to make a video from a developers perspective in terms of setting the various environments, security groups and policies and finally rolling out the app. I know you have covered a some of these concepts in separate videos - but an integrated video would be terrific! Thanks again for sharing your extensive information and knowledge. Much appreciated!
I make most apps in the customer tenant. I have them create the app so they are the owner then give me co-owner. That way I can build it and they can delete my account after I am done.

Hope all is well, may I say your videos are very easy to follow. I appreciate how you stick with mechanics only. I have one question, within your cascading dropdowns I notice that you only display 2 fields/columns to display. I have 3 columns that I need to filter by, I am having trouble with the 3rd dropdown, it only references the 2nd dropdown. I need the 3rd dropdown to filter from 1st and 2nd dropdowns: columns (1st DD = Program Type, 2nd DD = Expense Type, 3rd DD = Expense Description). I tried using the "And" function also "&", "&&" and neither of them worked properly. Please advise if I need 2 distinct functions or an If statement, I have tried them and didn't work either.
Request: Can we have tutorial for Cascading Dropdowns in PowerApps SharePoint Lookups. And power apps should shows the selected items in edit mode not just the beginning one.
Another great video thanks. I was wondering if you are connecting to a sharepoint, how do you achieve the blank line that you mention. Thanks in advance
Another great video, Shane! Do you have any advice for setting up filtering using SharePoint List columns? I have 2 filters and a display panel that are pulling from the same SharePoint list. I need one dropdown filter to set-up the next dropdown filter, and then this sets the form display. I initially was using lookups but that did not work out.
I thought that was what I did in the video? Did I not? I also have a video on Recreating Lookup columns that might help. ruclips.net/video/43ekj5MlNJU/видео.html
This is really helpful..In this same scenario can we do it in reverse way. Like, If user selects the value from "Job Titles" dropdown it should show "Department" values..(It should work in both the ways). If possible please let us know
Hello Shane, Great explanation! Any Reason why applying your example to a sharepoint list the blank cell always on the last row of the dropdown Menu; other value get sorted correctly when applying Ascending or Descending?
@@ShanesCows Thank you for your time! Building cascading with Excel OneDrive source as you did work just fine. I tried same data with sharepoint Although working blank value ignore sorting and get always put in the last position whether sorting Ascending or Descending. Code> Sort(Distinct(CatSpesaList, cat),Result) where CatSpesaList is a List and cat a column in the list. If not sorted though blank value appear as the first row and other value just as in the sharepoint list: I guess the sorting have to be done in sharepoint instead. Thank you again I'm learning a great deal from your video.
Greate video! Do you have a video where show how combine dropdowns with another gallery? The idea is for example show all the jobtitles regarding IT department . Thanks
Shane, Love, Love your videos. Thank you. I am fairly new to PowerApps and have been struggling. Your videos are very helpful. I do have a question. I am creating an app from multiple SharePoint lists. On the first 'Dashboard' screen I want to show a list of items and allow the users the ability to filter. I have setup the cascading drop downs for filtering and they work, with the small issue that I cannot have the filters blank and display everything allowing the user to scroll through all items or elect to filter. Thanks.
This is really a great description. I have tried with a database same as shown in this video with the table consisting 3 columns and i put three dropdowns in the app. The first two dropdowns are working perfectly with all the commands described in the video but i am still unable to find a way so that i could connect the third dropdown as well which will be dependent upon the selected values of first two dropdowns. If you could help me in some way then it will be really helpful.
Shane, Great video, hoping you can help. So I have a pair of SP lists in the same site. I am trying to use the first list which has a list of our resource in 3 different roles (eg: PC, GPA, ISA). The basics of the table are Role, First, Last, Full Name and details about the resource. Second table is for projects and depending on the services aligned to it a PC, GPA and or ISA will be assigned. For each of the assignments I have a drop-down list which I want to have a filter to reduce the available options . The formulas I have tried include: - ShowColumns(Filter('ICI - Team',IsDCMGPA = "Yes"),"FullName") - No results (Get blue icon with the >500 error/notification.) - Distinct(Filter('ICI - Team','ICI - Team'.Role=PC_Label.Text),'ICI - Team'.FullName) - No results (Get blue icon with the >500 error/notification.) I have also tried a number of other formulas all of wihch have resulted in no results. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
Shane, thanks for your videos as they are helping me a lot as I am new here. I am looking for a video where toggle buttons are used with SharePoint list. Do you have any plans of doing it?
Hi Shane. I started watching your videos today. I am pretty pretty new at Power Apps. So, can you recommend a video where I can learn how to have a dropdown list coming from an excel like in this example, but this excel will fit just for the Company Name dropdown list? In the other side I have a Sharepoint list to be fulfilled with fields: "Company Name", "Date" and "Cash at Bank (K)". So I want to build a simple app with these three fields, but the first one with approach you explained very well here. So, users will choose in the dropdown, then Date and Cash and when hit the button, this values will be recorded in the SharePoint list. Is it possible? So, kind of combine two sources for one solution, in this case fill a Share Point list. Then I will import this list to Power BI and finish with a dashboard. Is there any restriction regarding to total number of lines to be imported to Power BI. Sorry for this long text and if you cannot reply, ok, thanks anyway. Cheers, Jimmy
Thank you for the great videos. I have attempted to follow the exact steps you took, to even building the same Excel file and naming the table the same, however the formula for the Dropdown2 in PowerApps errors with an invalid argument type. Is there something different in the new version to get this to work?
I was having the same issue and I believe I've solved it but I have no idea why it works. I got the error, "This data type is unsupported for evaluation." on my parent dropdown field. "Selected.Value" wasn't an option but "Selected.Result" was, so I tried it. My resulting formula is: "Distinct(Filter(JobTitles, Department=Dropdown_Dept.Selected.Result),JobTitle)". It works, but I don't know why. I'm guessing it's a version difference, since the video is almost 2 years old?? No clue. Great videos and thanks for editing the wait times.
@@kenshaw000 I had the exact same issue. Value wasn't appearing. So I had to do this: Parent: Sort(Distinct(lu_EntitySubEntity,Title),SortOrder) Child: Distinct(Filter(lu_EntitySubEntity,Title=DropDown_Entity.Selected.Result),SubEntity) As an aside, rather than alphabetical I added a field called 'Sort Order' and sort items that way. Good use of this feature is if you want to put the most popular selections on the top of the drop down
Can you type into the dropdown with something like an autofill in order to select a name from a large list? Your videos are very helpful and instructive.
Hi Shane, I am learning Powerapps from your videos . Very helpful . Thank You,Much. I have a doudt from this video. Please tell me the use of Reload Icon when the excel which we use is having static data.We might not use it rt?
Diddo what everyone is saying about great videos. I'm just getting started & learning a lot. I followed your steps & have an excel sheet in OneDrive with 2 fields -- DDFilter & DDOptions. I need to create multiple criteria for multiple dropdowns. For example if DropDown1 = "Yes" then Filter the DDOptions field from the sheet to XYZ from the DDFilter field. If it says "No" then filter the DDOptions from the sheet to ABC on the DDFilter field. However, when trying to do your basic dropdown option as described in this video, it won't even recognize the fields from the data source. I type Filter(DDOptions but it doesn't recognize DDOptions as a field unless I add the table name DDList. to the front of it. I then have the same issue when entering the DDFilter field name in the logical test, but then it won't accept .Selected.Value. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong with this step? And is there a way to use a string (i.e. "Yes") in a filter? Thanks!
Step 1 make sure you have added all of the Excel tables as data sources to the app. Step 2 you have something like follows Items = If(Dropdown1.Selected.Value = "Yes", XYZ.DDOptions, ABC.DDOptions) That isn't the exact code but the concept.
Hello Shane, First of all thank you for all your videos! I got a question regarding the sort(distinct(sharepoint list data) function. It does work with my dropdown tool. But the data that I choose are not saved in the sharepoint list which is link to my powerapp. I don't know if I'm clear (hello from France) Thanks for your help
Hi Shane! Is it posible for the JobTitles dropdown to have a Default value of an blank option (empty string) that comes first and then the rest of the options, after we selected the department?
Hi Shane! Even after 3 years your video is a great help. But i still have a question. In your example your data are stored vertically -> each entries for your dropdowns are in a row. So how does it works if my data are stored horizontally in columns? The "department dropdown" is the same like yours. But how to do this with your jobtitles if they are written in column1, column2, column3... etc.?
Hey Shane, Great video. Absolute lifesaver. I have a question for you - the second cascaded dropdown however is showing something other than "blank" - do you know if there is a solution?
Hi Shane, these videos of yours are absolutely fantastic, I find myself stumbling upon your channel very frequently as I learn how to properly use the PowerApps services. The cascading dropdown has been a nightmare for me for a while, and this video was simple and easy to follow, thank you for making it! I've tried to apply a similar method to comboboxes, with limited success. I expect to have a large number of entries in the first dropdown, and would like to be able to search through entries, comboboxes seem to be the way forward. Sadly, the second dropdown (which can be a normal dropdown) gets confused, giving me "squigglies" under the = symbol and .value. Any thoughts on what could be done to fix this? Again, your videos are amazing, thank you so much for making them.
Hi Shane, I actually did figure this out eventually after throwing reams of different combinations at it. I'd wanted to use combo boxes because the source it was reading from was going to have about 400 entries, very cumbersome for a dropdown! The combobox's search feature was nice. Basically, needed to be able to choose contacts according to the company I had selected. Eventually, I put this one in and it stopped giving errors. Works well when you restrict the first combobox to only one option. I don't think it will work if it were possible to choose multiple. Distinct(Filter('Company Contacts', DropDown_Companies.Selected.Title = Company), ContactName) It seems like the order of the arguments just needed changing a little bit, which is strange but it works? This works on normal dropdowns and other comboboxes.
Shane Young, First congratulations on the video and didactics, secondly I apologize for my English, I am using translator. I ask, when I use cascading dropdown, what function do I use to submit? For example: SubmitForm (EDITFORM1) or needs to be another function.
Hi Shane, have learnt a lot from your videos thanks for all the knowledge u r sharing, I have a doubt I have a form with share point list, I have created a drop down and added one more drop down for the same column and have set visible parameter depending on the yes/no selection but when I submit the form the value from only one of the drop downs is getting updated in the list
Shane, Great video and thank you for sharing. Is there a way to set the value of one drop-down field to update or default to an assigned value based on the selection of another? For example, If I have a colors drop-down and a numbers drop-down and I select "Red" for one, can I default the numbers drop-down to show "Two"?
Yes. Try setting drop down 2 to have a default of Variable1. Then have the onchange event for dropdown1 update that variable based on what was selected.
Thanks Shane. I was able to get this to work on a test screen using two regular drop-downs where I manually keyed in the test values. However, when I tried to do the same on with a form that is linked to a SharePoint list, it doesn't seem to work. Would this have any impact on whether or not this would work? I am also getting an error message that the property is expecting a record value, but is instead getting an invalid text value. I can confirm that the value that I have set to default is an item on the corresponding drop-down. Thoughts?
Hey Shane! Thank you for the tutorial!!! I have a question. Do we have to manually enter each options for the dropdown? Let's say i have "year" dropdown and the choice is for 20 years. Do i have to manually enter the year? Is there a way to auto-increment it? Thank youuuu again!
I have a question about authentication to this backend data source where the dropdown data is coming from. You used OneDrive in your video which is fine locally but if I do this using a sharePoint list, I have to grant everyone with modify access to the list because PowerApps uses the User context when accessing that data. Is there a way to connect to a datasource using a 'Connect As' option so only my Connect As account has rights to the backend data? We've struggled with this and it's very annoying. Maybe I'm just a noob. Thanks! Great videos!
Hello Shane! great video you are a tremendous help! I have a question could 3 cascading dropdowns boxes work with the same logic? I tried replicating the above solution but the 3rd dropdown box isn't showing anything. Do you have maybe an idea why?
Hello Shane Thank you very much for all your video they help me tu learn about Power Apps! i have a question about two videos you make. one about office365 user and Dropdown. on the first you show a search function on office365, and on this video you take a list personal example. But it is possible to make a dropdown menu with office365user? Thank you for all Anthony
Hi Shane, I am watching your videos from long time and I found it really helpful, could you please tell me how to set default value blank in dropdown in powerapps other than creating collection.
Thanks for this very useful video. When I Patch this to send the results to Sharepoint I get "The type of this argument 'AIsle' does not match the expected type 'Text'. Found type 'Error'." My source for the dropdown is in Excel and the whole table is formatted as text. The Patch command sends the results to a Sharepoint list and the type of that column is 'Single line of text'.

So if your browser is set to English (strangely no language selection inside the PowerApps portal and ignoring the language set in the user account settings in Office 365) comma is used, so
RGBA(255, 255, 255, 1)
in German semicolon is used, so

No wonder my formulas were not working!
I got nothing. I agree the , vs ; is very annoying for everyone. 😑
Glad you are getting it.
Shane, thank you so much! Your video's are so helpful and you explain it where a beginner, like myself, can understand!
Glad to help. 😀
Shane, Please write a book and make its Kindle version available. Again, this is really great. Thank you very much for your hard work.
Hey Gideon I have been approached about writing a book but it all changes so fast I don’t think it would be valid long. 😑 Instead I have the classes at training.powerapps911.com to help you learn.
Great video, much better than all the rest out there that I've watched.
Thanks 😎
Hi Shane, thanks for your great work.putting in front of us in a simple mannner and I am sure you have learned hard way .Lots of research has gone into it.
Thanks
Very welcome
great job man! I'm just starting out with Power Apps and you explained this very well. You just got another subscriber :)
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks Shane... You've made my learning and use of PowerBI very simple and very interesting. Thank you.
Cool. Glad to help.
Hi Shayne, this will be very helpful when we map clients chart of accounts (or Product List) for example:
Account Code/Name: 2000/000 - Motor Vehicles @ Cost
Report Type: Balance Sheet (or Income Statement)
Level 1: Assets (Liabilities ; Equity)
Level 2: Non-Current Assets (Current Assets)
Level 3: Fixed Assets
And then after the account has been mapped it pulls through to a SQL Table that is imported in Power BI. Also after the account is mapped it gets removed from the dropdown in PowerApps.
This is very handy for reporting purposes for things like mapping products in product category and - subcategories, or projects or employees in different groups. Would be great if you can do a video like that
Hei shane!
Good video. I have one question. i have sharepoint list in which i have two dropdowns which i want to update for example from power apps .If i want to add more items in tht particular column of list .is tht possible ?
so simple, you are explaining it in such a great way, thanks a lot for the effort and all the great videos ,BIG LIKE!
Thanks 🙏
Day one of learning PowerApps. So glad I found this video. Subscribed immediately as this is exactly what I need to build a powerful estimating tool. Thanks! Let me know if there are any videos that can combine this idea with adding values created in drop-downs continually while it builds an estimate in the background.
Repeating tables like Infopath is about building an expense report. But that is the same concept. 😀
Your videos are the best! They help me learn how to use powerApps!
That is awesome!
2 mins in and you already get a thumbs up for the reset button :D
Thank you. 😎
Great video Shane I already found a use for this in a invoicing system I've built
Awesome!
Thanks Shane, Great Vid. Subscribed.
Awesome, thank you! There is a more recent version here if it helps 😁 ruclips.net/video/SKMwayf_cuM/видео.html
Straight to the point. Easy to understand.
Thank you
Hi Shane, thanks for your videos, they're very helpful. Can you please show us how can we navigate into screens by selecting the dropdown items? Thanks
There is a property for the Dropdown called OnChange. Put your navigate function there.
WOW, Thank you very much. You made it very understandable and now I know how to create cascading drop downs.
Awesome. 😍
SaveData and LoadData. Yeah, I need to cover those. I just haven't yet. One day I hope.
Just wanted to say a massive thanks for this, I have just started to teach myself powerapps and I have been getting no where until I found this video.
Thanks. 😻 Let me know if you have ideas for other videos or need a nudge.
@@ShanesCows Thank you once again for your reply Shane - your channel is totally awesome. I am watching your videos wherever and whenever I get a chance - on my computer, on my ipad and even on my iphone! I just cant get enough of what you put up. Waiting for your next!
Awesome you made my day . one small query i have two excel from one excel i am making cascading and in another excel i am saving i am able to save the value but the cascading value is not getting saved which i am fetching from another excel can you help me in this please
Man, you're helping me a lot! Thanks for your dedication on this
You are welcome 🐶
Hey Shane, loving your content so far. What do you suggest for Cascading Dropdown with a source of 2000+ options?
Nvm :) for those with same question -> ruclips.net/video/UaBmVUQx_Fk/видео.html
Glad you got it figured out.
Filter(datasource, column1 = dd1.selected.result And column2 = dd2.selected.result) should be it.
Request: Can we have tutorial for
Cascading Dropdowns in PowerApps SharePoint Lookups.
And power apps should shows the selected items in edit mode not just the beginning one.

Thanks Shane. very well explained. Any chance of putting a video about the
repeating table behavior of infopath in powerapp
Great idea. I will add it to the list.
Hi Shane, your videos are great! A question, is it possible to show in one column of the Sharepoint's list the option selected on the drop down menu?
Yes but I am not sure I follow your question.
Thank you for posting this. I am a beginner and your videos have really helped a lot.
Glad that it helped you.
I am getting used to your introooo... great work.. ur my ready reckoner ... thank u
Glad to hear that
Another great video thanks. I was wondering if you are connecting to a sharepoint, how do you achieve the blank line that you mention. Thanks in advance
The dropdown control now allows you to to set the property AllowEmptySelection to true. :) No more blank line needed.
Great Video! I wonder if it is possible to make a cascading list while allowing manual text input into it and make them part of the list after.
Would take a lot of work but I think possible.
This video was super informative! Helped me a lot with my App. Thanks a lot Shane Young
Awesome!!!!🤩
Great video’s keep up the gold work. Just subscribed to your channel.

Sorry for the delayed response. No in the video you used an Excel Table, which I tried and got to work, but could not get the blank row to work.
Thank you Shane, your videos are very descreptive and i learning so much from that!! thanks
My pleasure!
This is really helpful..In this same scenario can we do it in reverse way. Like, If user selects the value from "Job Titles" dropdown it should show "Department" values..(It should work in both the ways). If possible please let us know
I have never done both ways. Possible but I don't have code for it.
Hello Shane, Great explanation! Any Reason why applying your example to a sharepoint list the blank cell always on the last row of the dropdown Menu; other value get sorted correctly when applying Ascending or Descending?
Not sure. What does your code look like?
Thanks

Shane,
Love, Love your videos. Thanks.
Add an If that if the choose the blank option show all else do your filter?
This tutorial really helped ! Thank you Shane !
Thanks 🙏
This is really a great description.
I have tried with a database same as shown in this video with the table consisting 3 columns and i put three dropdowns in the app. The first two dropdowns are working perfectly with all the commands described in the video but i am still unable to find a way so that i could connect the third dropdown as well which will be dependent upon the selected values of first two dropdowns.
If you could help me in some way then it will be really helpful.
Remember you can use And in your filter. 😀
The formulas I have tried include:
- ShowColumns(Filter('ICI - Team',IsDCMGPA = "Yes"),"FullName")
- No results (Get blue icon with the >500 error/notification.)
- Distinct(Filter('ICI - Team','ICI - Team'.Role=PC_Label.Text),'ICI - Team'.FullName) - No results (Get blue icon with the >500 error/notification.)
I have also tried a number of other formulas all of wihch have resulted in no results. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
Shane, You are awesome. Thanks for this presentation.
You are welcome 😊
Shane, thanks for your videos as they are helping me a lot as I am new here. I am looking for a video where toggle buttons are used with SharePoint list. Do you have any plans of doing it?
What are you trying to accomplish? I think in the quiz app video I covered toggle.
This video is exactly that. ruclips.net/video/fqH1U0_TanI/видео.html
Thank you for the great videos. I have attempted to follow the exact steps you took, to even building the same Excel file and naming the table the same, however the formula for the Dropdown2 in PowerApps errors with an invalid argument type. Is there something different in the new version to get this to work?
What is the formula that didn’t work? Create a new comment and paste it in. I will see if I can help.
So I had to do this:
Parent: Sort(Distinct(lu_EntitySubEntity,Title),SortOrder)
Child: Distinct(Filter(lu_EntitySubEntity,Title=DropDown_Entity.Selected.Result),SubEntity)
As an aside, rather than alphabetical I added a field called 'Sort Order' and sort items that way. Good use of this feature is if you want to put the most popular selections on the top of the drop down
@@kenshaw000 I had the same issues, thank you for response, saved me hours of figuring it out!
Can you type into the dropdown with something like an autofill in order to select a name from a large list? Your videos are very helpful and instructive.
Yes. Use a combo box. PoweApps Combobox - Search, Filter, Default values, and more ruclips.net/video/pjs0ZsnJZXo/видео.html

Hi Shane, I am learning Powerapps from your videos . Very helpful . Thank You,Much. I have a doudt from this video. Please tell me the use of Reload Icon when the excel which we use is having static data.We might not use it rt?
The reload is only to refresh the data source. Typically you only need that for testing not the real app.
@@ShanesCows Thanks Shane for the reply.I m glad that I m learning Powerapps from your videos.Very helpful for beginners like me.Kudos to u:-)
Step 2 you have something like follows
Items = If(Dropdown1.Selected.Value = "Yes", XYZ.DDOptions, ABC.DDOptions)
That isn't the exact code but the concept.
I am grateful to find this!!!
Happy to help. Have a great day.
You have great videos! I like all them.
Thanks
Hello Shane,
First of all thank you for all your videos!
I got a question regarding the sort(distinct(sharepoint list data) function. It does work with my dropdown tool. But the data that I choose are not saved in the sharepoint list which is link to my powerapp. I don't know if I'm clear (hello from France)
Thanks for your help
Hi Shane! Is it posible for the JobTitles dropdown to have a Default value of an blank option (empty string) that comes first and then the rest of the options, after we selected the department?
Just what I was looking for, Thanks!
Awesome :)
This works great, except for the value in my 2nd dropdown is not saving to my main SP List. The first dropdown selection saves without any issues.
I fixed it. For the card default instead of Parent.Default, I did ThisItem.FieldName
Glad you got it. 😀
You can set AllowEmpty to true. There is a new version of this video here ruclips.net/video/SKMwayf_cuM/видео.html
Combo boxes put out multiple selections while the drop down only does one. Connecting the two may be difficult
Hi Shane,
I actually did figure this out eventually after throwing reams of different combinations at it.
Distinct(Filter('Company Contacts', DropDown_Companies.Selected.Title = Company), ContactName)
It seems like the order of the arguments just needed changing a little bit, which is strange but it works? This works on normal dropdowns and other comboboxes.
Shane Young,
First congratulations on the video and didactics, secondly I apologize for my English, I am using translator. I ask, when I use cascading dropdown, what function do I use to submit? For example: SubmitForm (EDITFORM1) or needs to be another function.
SubmitForm should work.
CHeck your update statement. You may need to use Patch instead.
I think that case typing in all 20 years is probably easiest. :|
Hii but what if the years up until 100? I think it would be such a hassle to write one by one. Hope you can show this in your next video Shane! ✨
WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN THIS WHOLE TIME!!!!
Here waiting for you. 🤩😀🎉
Not possible. Sorry
Hello Shane! great video you are a tremendous help! I have a question could 3 cascading dropdowns boxes work with the same logic? I tried replicating the above solution but the 3rd dropdown box isn't showing anything. Do you have maybe an idea why?
Yes, just requires either more if formulas. 😀
this is great. thank you for showing
Thank you. 😻
Hello Shane
Thank you very much for all your video they help me tu learn about Power Apps!
i have a question about two videos you make. one about office365 user and Dropdown. on the first you show a search function on office365, and on this video you take a list personal example. But it is possible to make a dropdown menu with office365user?
Thank you for all
Anthony
You could put the users into a collection and then have fun with them.
Hi Shane, I am watching your videos from long time and I found it really helpful, could you please tell me how to set default value blank in dropdown in powerapps other than creating collection.
Collection is the only way 😐
Thanks for this very useful video.
The solution: the Patch format had to be Aisle: AisleTRVDD.SelectedText.Value. Nothing else would work.
Glad you got it. :)
