- Hurakan Condor at PortAventura has a strong case as the world's scariest and most intense drop tower. This ride opened as the tallest drop tower in Europe, as the tower stands over 37 stories tall. Then you have 3 orientations to experience- standard sit-down, sit-down tilting, and stand-up floorless tilting. The latter is what makes this ride special.

This should have been Mach Tower. An Intamin 2nd tower like this. Would of been the best drop tower in the states besides the Disney ones and Falcon's Fury.

Intamin really knew how to "plus" its drop towers & Gyro's Knott's had gyro + parachute. Six Flags Over Texas had standing + sitting positions for parachute ride. Now this hybrid. PortAventura is a "Crown jewel" in design & ride offerings.
I wish there were more like it.

I rode this in August hoping to stand up however I was put on the non tilting sitting side but it was still terrifying !
It's terrifying on all sides, but extra scary on the stand-up sides.

As interesting as it is, this ride is actually ranked higher on my bucket list than steel venchange and iron gwazi... Its also the ride that would scare me the most. I would go on it though!

Depending, first I tried riding roller coasters that made me and as at the time I continued preferring water rides, water slides and other rides. Second I rode again roller coasters and I liked it more than before and since then I liked and loved roller coasters. Later I rode towers, first I liked the launch shot ones and I was later thinking about fall drop ones. I watched the one at Terra Mítica, and in the 2022 summer visit of the reopened entire park since it was closed during the pandemic, I rode it and I liked it. I'm thinking about Hurakan Condor.

This one is way more intense.
On my visit you could only get a ride on side 1 and 2 with the single rider line without the express pass because only the express pass visitors could access it because of the express pass queue being in front of side 1 and 2 and it was a busy day
Interesting. I had Express and was told it wasn't on it. I got the stand-up side usually with single.
This tower is wild. Drop towers are what scare me the most. Got luck to ride 3 positions, stand Up is definitly the best. But they all are a bit shaky. One thing that made them scarier is the roof, being over the camera and just under the roof is really scary

Im going to portaventura and ferrari land in August, what is the scariest ride in the resort? Ps what's the most nauseating rides because my mum needs to avoid them😅?
I think this is the resort's scariest ride between the height and anticipation. Most nauseating depends if you have an issue with spinning, swinging, etc.

I count them as drop towers.
My favorite drop tower is still Detonator, even though it is really short the drop feels almost like it has some airtime, and the brakes give great positives.
That's a fun one but I much prefer this.
People don't tall about how this style of drop tower is much more intense due to the small gondalas falling faster due to less air resistance, and the lighter weight means they can brake later and lower than the usual big 360° drop towers.
I've been on some Intamins with big gondolas (like High Fall) that have a punchy drop. It depends on the ride.
@@CanobieCoaster the punchiness should only be effected by the drop mechanism and internal linkage friction, but the aero should massively effect the top speed a 200ft+ drop can reach, and generally how long that initial zero G feeling lasts

I'm going to be honest about the roof, I'm not a fan and think it's kind of weird, but it's shade I guess. And another thing is how they can have the cameras under it to. But more than anything, I absolutely hope this is still as intense and floaty as the other Intamin towers, I freaking love it.
It was plenty intense to me.
Ok well the actual drop on Giant Drop is 100 feet higher and takes 4 seconds, so it's pretty close although this is definitely more intense. I thought when I was timing this that the drop itself was 377. Looks like a lot of fun, will make sure not to miss it next time if I can help it!

when i went last year i was too shitting myself to do stand up so i did sit down but in a couple weeks im going back and doing stand up

Giant drop is good, but this is just a tiny bit shorter yet the drop to the ground is in 2/3 of the time or even less. I didn't get to ride this on my single visit, what a shame. Annual Maintenance (or maybe it was just down for the day, I don't know), but I was only really there for Shambahla. I timed the drop vs Giant Drop and MAN this must be so much more intense. I wonder why to be honest, i.e. why Giant Drop is so much milder at close to 400 ft. There has to be a construction reason as to why some like this are so much more intense than others in the speed they drop.
I'm not sure what the reason is, but there are some that are unanimously considered to be more forceful.
The tilting seats must be new. Don't think they had them when I did it in 2009. And I rode in one of the standing cars.
I believe it has had tilting cars from day one. Maybe that feature was broken?

Sadly Apocalypse at home park Drayton Manor in U.K. has just closed forever, but if you never went on that... whilst Hurakan may be taller and in that sense scarier, Apocalypse was the most intense stand up drop I've ever been on.. and definitely one of the most intense intamin drop towers in general. R.I.P...

@@CanobieCoaster brakes kicked in later, also just seemed more forceful! Plus standing up on a floor is actually better than no floor I think. Makes it weirdly more scary as it gives you more 'depth of field'. I'm gonna miss it!
I have not done this drop tower howeber have done similar and I believe the former Apocalypse at Drayton Manor was the best Intamin drop tower given it got a reputation of being the most insane ride in europe should given an indication how good it is, bunch of others intamin drop towers that are excellent to Mystery Castle, Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom, Anubis Free Fall Tower. But would love to do this one someday

@@CanobieCoaster Apocalypse at Drayton Manor was removed this year 30th October as the park really let it run down and also it just did not fit there target audience so thats why it was removed which is a real shame as it was my favourite drop tower out there

I HATE drop towers, it's the only type of ride that scares me. I'm going to this park next month and was thinking of giving the sit-down one a shot, but if they don't even allow you to pick your seat then I might have to give this a pass.
I love the thrill.
When I was 11 years old I promised I would never ride this.
I rode it the following year and got the tilting side. Once I got down I instantly ran back into the queue for a second go.
Edit: I haven't been to PortAventura in a long time, but back in 2010 it did hold you at the top for 10-30 seconds. Maybe they later removed it to increase the throughput and reduce queue times.

I watched my dad get on this after i chickened out as a 12 year old, he looked like Casper the friendly ghost when he got off and he stumbled into a bush cause his legs wouldn't work 🤣
