On August 3, in the Paris Olympics table tennis women's singles final, Chinese female player Chen Meng played against Sun Yingsha, who is also on the Chinese team. Logically speaking, no matter who wins the championship, it is a moment of great pride for the Chinese people, but the atmosphere at the scene was astonishing...

Shasha isn't just a player, she is a brand and part of a company in china im sure, she can't just go around spouting whatever she wants. Even in america, maintaining your brand and keeping to yourself is regular practice, of course in China it will be much worse, especially since Shasha was apparently the overwhelming favorite. She is young, cute, popular, and extremely, EXTREMELY, skilled and talented. She has a bright future and is perfectly justified to keep quiet. You can tell from the hug at the end that there is no ill will between the players, this is purely a societal problem since shasha is so popular. The Chinese coaches were probably hoping to raise a three time Olympic gold singles medalist or something, that dream is completely ruined now.

Tbf, this years Olympics had a lot of wild scenes. The opener with was either intentionally provocative or lacked even mild self-awareness and foresight about how that would look, the Australian breakdsncing “athlete” who seemed more like an attempt at parody than a serious attempt, the flag snatching for Taiwan supporters, of coarse the negative reaction of the Chinese fans towards their own champion, list goes on.

In other countries, even if two players come from rival clubs, the fact that they both made it to the finals and represent the same country would typically lead to equal support from their fellow countrymen and women. However, this doesn't seem to be the case in China, highlighting the unique nature of sports culture there. I even read that Chinese companies have already produced merchandise declaring the 23-year-old player as the winner, even before the match.
In ancient times, Greek city-states would cease hostilities during wars to unite against a common foreign threat. Yet, in China, with their military-style Olympic training camps where athletes may not see their families for up to a year, the situation seems different. Chen scored top marks for not even commenting negatively on the harsh treatment she endured post-interview. Nevertheless, while I don't agree with it, it seems that many people had their Weibo accounts suspended, and a few arrests were made. I hope the woman who openly raised her middle finger at Chen received a significant social credit deduction.

    1) The interview of Chen Meng at the beginnning is from another game, that was earlier, that was earlier
    2) Yili commercial preparation is nothing unusual, but that they tested it like that is unusual, but still it doesn’t mean much
    3) why people like Shasha more is because Shasha won all the important games, Chen Meng was never the one to win the important games for China,
    4) You can see from the group competition, Shasha was ranked number 1. S he always played as the number 1 person in the group competition and played against the strongest players from the other foreign teams, she always had the biggest responsibility, she won a lot of important games, She saved the Chinese team many times. She has more fans because of that, also more of her fans went to the Olympics to watch her. I think, if Chen Meng would play against a foreigner, the Chinese audience would cheer for her.
    5) The possible reason why the coaches were so upset, is that the women's coach might have given Shasha's data about how to beat her to Chen Meng (which is not allowed) and Chen Meng trained exactly according to this data. All the coaches could look through that. Before that Shasha won many times against Chen Meng. This also meant that Chen Meng's playing gave away Shasha’s secrets to all the other countries. This could be seen in the group competition later, but the foreign teams didn't have enough time to practice as much as Chen Meng. If they would have, it would have been super bad for the Chinese team, because they might have won against Shasha as well.
    6) The theory that the commercial money is bigger if Shasha wins, doesn't make sense because they share the money anyways no matter who wins; Chen Meng actually has more commercial brands value (Dior for example), Shasha only has a socks and a milk brand ...
    7) Match fixing happened before to let a player get into the next round who is more likely to win against a foreign player, but this doesn't make sense in the final between Shasha and Chen Meng

The combination of power and money is an irresistible temptation in modern utilitarian society, especially in China’s traditional authoritarian culture, where people often worship this power and allow themselves to be manipulated in the name of collective glory.

I think that this issue mainly comes through table tennis having a huge fanbase in china. It is just like football in europe where in one country there is different clubs and those have different fanbases that are harshly against each other. For iternational competition this issue doesnt exist in football and other teamsports because you find the best players and build one team that everybody is supporting. But in table tennis in the individual event nothing changes and the chinese people cheer for the player they are supporting normally also on the international stage. You could see in the Team event everybody also cheered for Chen Meng because it was the same situation as in football with building teams. Then everybody is for her and her Team because it is their countries team.

To the people who watched the video, Sun Yingsha is considered one of China's MOST favourite athletes. Chen Meng in the other hand was getting cheered on by her home city Qingdao. On buildings, it will say "Come on Chen Meng!". You guys won't trust me but, my grandma taught Chen Meng before when she was only 6. Chen Meng is over 30 years old with no husband and children. So for her last game she should be respected. Fuck the Sun Yingha fans, especially the one who pointed the middle finger at her.

Black fan culture explained the audience but not the coaches or the winner reception when she won and appeared on the podium. This has been going on for years. Simple solution, fixing matches by coaching team means instant expulsion for the whole team no matter the sport. In this olympics this was blatent in the speed walking, badminton and table tennis that i saw.

Sun has tons of crazy toxic fans and chen ruined the streak. Well talking about who's better. Its a fact that Sun is far superior. She had beaten chen meng in most of the cases.

  • @yuchang9566
    @yuchang9566 2 месяца назад

Based on what happened, is it even logical the coaches fixed the game?
If they fixed it for Chen to win, how would they lost a lot of money as many suggested here?
If they fixed it for Sun to win, why would Sun's fans get upset with them as seen here?
Chen, who had been world champion multiple times, did not get upset and
turned that negative dynamics to motivate herself in the game.
Sun's irrational fans had actually helped Chen to perform better.
Sun, as a graceful player, did not even get upset either.
Only her fans got upset, because they are probably the only ones losing money.
And the people trying to shift the blame elsewhere will not change anything.
If the coaches did anything wrong, they will lose their coaching jobs since that is
how the sport authorities manages the Chinese national sport teams.

There were simply more Sun Yingsha fans in the crowd and they were more vocal, otherwise there is no hate against Chen Meng. Stop making something out of nothing, they are all from the same team and the best players in the world. Sun Yingsha is likely to play in the next Olympics while Chen Meng will not. China also underwent coaching changes and still figuring things out, which was probably why their progress was shakey. However, they won EVERY EVENT whereas in Tokyo they lost the mixed doubles to Japan. BTW, how did Japan do? It was a meltdown, that's the real story.
