After a literal year of dreaming and fantasizing about riding a bike, im finally heading to the dealer tomorrow and picking one up. Thank you papa yam for being the reason i ignored my family and gf to finally embark on this 2 wheeled quest for all the smiles and to get to experience a new passion before i hit the big 30 in a few weeks lol. You have the best quality content on this platform and i hope it brings you joy to know how many you have inspired. thanks again man. =D
My advice is to use rear brakes as well, using both brakes will net you more stopping force and also keep the bike more stable and you also might minimize front wheel lockup if you have old bike with no ABS to save you. I had a accident when my front wheel locked up, its a scary thing.
I always use both brakes - first the rear and a split second later the front. Obviously, the front has more power than the rear, but that doesn't seem to be a good reason not to use both. You can't "stomp" on the brakes like you can in a car or you will be going down. You need to progressively add pressure.
@donaldwilson5693 you have it backwards; it should be front before rear. Also, braking with both brakes has the undesired effect of preventing the front forks from compressing and therefore increasing rake.
@@ayowser01you are absolutely incorrect. Using the front brake removes load on the rear tire, increasing the likelyhood of slipout if you apply the rear brakes after the front Its ALWAYS rear brake firm to lighter pressure and then front brake light to heavy pressure. Always. End of story.
I have over a quarter million miles of riding and racing experience, and I think Yammie Noob is spot on with his advice and information. I really like this particular video.
Hello Yamber Nooberman, I bought a c50 boulevard, my first bike, 3 weeks ago after watching you, DDFM, MotoJitsu, and BxD for like forever. I think that after absorbing your guys' content for 7+ years, it's actually helped me tremendously. I got comfortable with the bikes grip, balance, clutch, and brakes so fast. I'm literally doing feet up stops like I've been riding for years 😂 My friends say I've got natural skill and coordination because before I bought the bike I had like 10 minutes of riding experience on a pit bike😂 But I think it's seriously just years of watching you guys. Thank you for keeping me safe
Among other things, the brake proportioning valve on a Chevy van assures that the rear brakes are engaged before the front brakes are engaged. This stabilizes the rear end during braking. Presumably, activating the rear brakes first "plants" the rear end on the asphalt so it doesn't wander around when the more powerful front brakes are engaged. Transposing this strategy to a two-wheel vehicle, If you hit the rear brakes first, that action would stabilize the rear end before the more effective front brakes are engaged.
After coming across this channel 2 years ago, and religiously watching DAILY for half a year, I finally got my first bike today. Much love, papa yam. Thank you for all the knowledge I could have ever wanted starting out. I'm forever grateful to you and Jake.
Hill start on a manual car: you can easily start without using the handbrake if you can control your feet enough to step from the brake to the gas pedal while releasing the clutch. It takes some time to learn but easily possible. You can also hold the car uphill with clutch and gas pedals only - but it may cost your clutch. I should know, I burnt one this way because I was too lazy to use the brake pedal in a traffic jam 😁😁
Your explanation of why insurance premiums, in general, are going up is spot on. I appreciate you being in tune with the industry. Insurance Agent here, Acknowledging Yammis statement.
Another place I would say cycling "helps a ton" is understanding how to manage grip while the bike is neutral. You can't add any more brake or power. You can get really comfortable with both wheels on the edge of their grip limit, and balance it front to back.
I've watched you years before i got my motorcycle, but even then I had my eyes on the ninja 650 krt. Just love that green. Thanks for continuing your channel. It's helped me a lot.
Passed my IBT (irelands version of MSF) this weekend. And I did EXACTLY what you said the most common mistake for a beginner rider is 😂😂😂 I went wide on a roundabout, didn’t turn right or lean enough, target fixated on the curb and that exactly where I went. Bike is a write off. I learned a lot of lessons that day 😂
I am super excited for the new Triumph 400s. I hope you'll get the chance to do a irl comparison of the 400 (scrambler or speed) with maybe the KTM 390 and the Husqy 401. Triumph entering this particular beginner market is massive for them.
5:45 "Can ....you wheelie?" I am reminded of an old biker I asked about wheelies, back when I was a teen. "Son" he said, putting his helmet on, "Wheelies are like downhill ski jumps you see in the Winter Olympics. It looks really cool, it's very hard to do, it serves no real purpose & if you get it wrong YOU'RE F'd!!!"
Rear brake is optional not necessary, in certain conditions mainly racing it is useful. On street I may go days and never touch rear brake. In street situations dual front disks on my zx6 are more than enough.
If your on a 150cc scooter like I am never ever use Michelin tires. they do not grip well and you will slide out even in good weather. you may not have heard of shinko but if you ride year round these give you the best grip when it's wet or slippery it will still feel like it's dry.
ive been on the g310gs for 3 months now, just under 1000km from weekend rides and its just epic! I wanted an R3 or Ninja 400, but realized theres alot of fun offroad and a bit slower too lmao. I just got started riding (recently began practicing swerves and hard stops!) and I gotta say- I’m with ya on the antisocial riding. I have a lot of friends wanting to ride in a group with me but honestly I just wanna jam out on my own and be zen in the hill country. 😂
2:23 not sure if "getting your knee down is a byproduct of speed" is correct statement, because it can seem you only can get deep lean by running fast. Lean depends on centrifugal force, which in turn depends on speed & turn radius (we assume bike + rider mass stays same between runs). Same centrifugal force will be applied if you run 20kmh on 3m radius circle and 90kmh on 60m radius circle. It is probably riders brain which limits deep lean on slower speeds :)...
As for the fitness element there is some serious truth to that if you want to ride hard. Especially if you want to ride a heavier cruiser bike hard, you really have to work the bike and body position to get to the performance level around turns you'll want since you're starting from a severe disadvantage. That being said it is rewarding muscling a 5, 6, 700lb bike spirited through corners hour after hour.

I have a beginner question, anyone in comments feel free to reply. I'm a lightweight dude, never rode on anything bigger than a scooter cause I live in Vietnam and everyone rides 'em. Anyways, I'm like 6 feet tall and 140 pounds, but just how heavy are motorcycles? And I know this varies, but for a small dude like me would a 300 or 400cc bike feel pretty light or heavy? And another thing, would a 600cc bike just feel SUPER heavy for me?
1 doubt you see this but anyone in the comments feel free to chime in. I rode dirt bikes growing up and I didn't have time to ride in high school. I'm trying to get back into riding. I've heard of many people saying that a 300cc will put me to sleep because it's boring. I'm looking at something a bit bigger maybe a 500 or a 650cc. What do you recommend? Anyone..
Hey y’all I’m looking for my first motorcycle and I need one with some power I have to go on the interstate and the speed limit is 70 mph so I need some power any advice will be much appreciated
I used to ride a zx11 and here 20 years later I daily a cbr300 and it's fine on texas highways. Speed limits here are also 70mph and I don't have any problems keeping up with traffic. So I say get the brand you like and enjoy the ride. Best of luck

"Beginner" questions he says, then right out of the gate its turbocharging a bike and dropping knees doing hairpin turns lol
HDX440 performance perfection .

Anyone..
Z400 or ninja 400 the best bikes to start or restart on a lot more fun than a 300 and faster than a cbr 500

Hey y’all I’m looking for my first motorcycle and I need one with some power I have to go on the interstate and the speed limit is 70 mph so I need some power any advice will be much appreciated
Most 400-500cc bikes do fine at highway speeds and make excellent beginner bikes.
Which brand would be best
I used to ride a zx11 and here 20 years later I daily a cbr300 and it's fine on texas highways. Speed limits here are also 70mph and I don't have any problems keeping up with traffic. So I say get the brand you like and enjoy the ride. Best of luck
Do you thin a gxsr 600 or a cbr600rr or a ktm duke is good for a first motorcycle
can i trust your motorbike gear brand?
