Okay I get a lot of comments on this video. I'm not saying that Ambessa is going to be bad or flat or anything, just that I FEEL worried. The trailers made me a little concerned and that is what the video is talking about. The concerns were alleviated upon the drop of blood, sweat, and tears and I have since felt better about her upcoming portrayal

If this show has taught me anything, complex characters can still do bad things. Even if she going down a bad path, I don’t think they’ll make her completely shallow.
TBF, she had always been a villain, no idea why people are surprised, her entire reason for being in piltover was to take over. I’m surprised that people are surprised that she dropped her mask to do the one thing she’s planning on doing using her daughter’s death/injury/trauma as an excuse. Well, we’ll find out soon what happens in november. Looking forward to it.

Jinx literally blew up her daughter what we are seeing now is a mother's rage. Complex characters can't escape the simple minded nature of the human experience. We saw her in season 1 as a conquer, season 2 she is just done with piltover and zaun's crap. We are seeing her conqueror mindset now and I can't wait.

Well for silcos case we get hints that he has multifaceted motivations for being the villain, wanting power and respect for himself but also making the people not starve. While for ambessa it's just been revenge and revenge

She's literally a headstrong warrior. This is not out of character for s1. Her whole thing is foing what is necessary even if it's straight up bad and not letting anyone be in her way, even her own daughter.
@maofone Oh yeah, I can understand that. I've been worried ever since season 2 was announced that it was going to be bad, I've been burned by season 2s before, I didn't believe they could keep up the insane quality season 1 had. I believe now.
If Mel lives, Ambessas character motivation will continue to be to protect her family. This means starting a war to get a weapon to save her family, similar to s1. Ambessa will absolutely be a villain in s2, even if she is not the main villain, and even if she is incredibly intelligent on warfare and says all of these correct things. She says all of these objectively correct and intelligent things but the fact is that she is pushing for war for a selfish, non objective reason. Her entire “be the wolf” persona and past may end up biting her in the butt (especially with pretty plausible theories of local cuisine being related to the girl she killed + the flashback of what I’m pretty sure is Leblanc in the room where she killed the girl + the fact that local cuisine is in the background of some Leblanc splash art + the fact that local cuisine wears the kindred wolf mask symbolizing like revenge and hunting people trying to escape death down). Basically overall ambessa will either be fighting for her family or fighting for revenge, clouding her formerly objective, though corrupt, judgement. Although I think she’ll be a villain, I think arcane is definitely shifting the focus to noxus takeout to distract from the fact that a whole lot of other major stuff is gonna happen with the arcane (specifically Viktor, Jayce and what looks like the cult of the glorious evolved + Leblanc)
I think that at least towards the beginning Mel may be incapacitated if not dead leading to Ambessas take over. Unlike a lot of people, I believe that it is Caitlyn rather than Jayce who will be primarily manipulated by Ambessa. This would drive apart cait and vi and would also explain some of the lines in trailers plus shots of Caitlyn in her corruption arc. I’m rlly hoping this season we’ll get some Jayce and Cait parallels with being manipulated by a medarda. The reason I think Jayce won’t be manipulated by Ambessa is that his final act in s1 was a declaration of an end to his corruption arc, and was the first decision he made completely for himself without the influence of another. We could possibly get warmonger manipulated by Ambessa Jayce but this would go directly against Jayce’s entire character arc resolution from the first act and also I don’t think that would set up for Jayce and Viktors relationship or make sense with any of the shots we’ve gotten of Jayce so far.
My impression now that ive watched the first 3 episodes is shes just as complex as ever, and that mask of confidence is starting to slip in the face of Mel being in more direct danger. Very interesting

She went from being portrayed as a war veteran to a guide for various characters and for piltover, slowly pulling the strings of piltovers politics and back to an antagonistic warlord she introduced as. Then she got killed by her own daughter and isnt mad, but accepts her as the wolf and a new leader for her noxian soldiers
Theres this really cool detail when everytime she steps in Piltover she inhales and smiles. 1. When she first landed 2. When she finally took over the city in S2
Ambessa is a great and good character and she's both very famous and infamous and she's meant to be hated because of his lifestyle and how she views the world plus on the downright side she's a villain we all grow to root, dislike and hate very much like all the others
They made Jinx work. They made Vi work. They made Caitlyn work. These are some talented writers and season 2 is from the same thought as season 1. Season 1 was good. Logically you can conduct that your worries aren’t justified (although understandable).
They are though, silco was introduced as nuanced even within the trailers wanting to fight for zaun's wellbeing but also himself. Ambessa's dialogue have all been in the same direction

Up until he adopts Powder („Is there anything so undoing as a daughter“). Ambessa by her actions is a heartless, monstrous bastard who destabilizes everything and tries to take her daughters lover away. Until she reveals the true reason she came back (her home, family and life is endangered). The question shouldn’t be: „Is Ambessa becoming stale because she talks about only war against Zaun instead of focusing on Noxius?“ The question is: „Why in the hell does she support Piltover against Jinx?“ Solution: 1. If Mel died in the initial attack, its a very emotional reaction that would develop her as a mother. 2. If Mel didn’t die in the initial attack, its a very calculated decision. Trying to get Mels trust back, while also saving Piltover as a partner to get Hextech. 3. It also could just be plot convenience. Point 1 and 2 would both create a deep and rich character with a lot of impact on other parts of the story. Point 3 while possible is improbable as season 1 and 2 are from the same feather and season 1 had exactly one plot convenience that could be solved by implying knowledge to one singular character (talking about Vanders Bunny scene). This doesn’t track. Seeing Mel in promotional material alive and all well (assuming no switcheroo in the timelines) means she survived. Aka Ambessa rejects Change and still is a warmonger (which then could lead into the death of Mel changing her so she fulfills the theme setting up a Duality to season 1 [aka the motif of season 1]). So I say: „BE NOT AFRAID“ Have a nice day AEther
I’m the complete opposite. I saw her as a manipulator who only cared about power even tho she told Mel otherwise. However, I think we’re getting more of her background based on the song Blood Sweat and Tears for season 2. Ambessa in season 1 seemed willing and even desired for Piltover to go to war do she could use HexTech. With Mel potentially harmed or dead, her motivation hopefully will change.
Arcane has made Silco, a seemingly simple villain, be extremely complex and I think they will do the same with Ambessa. She's a real warrior and leader that will be ruthless if necessary to protect the things and people under her. I think we will see a amazing deconstruction of why she turned out this way
The more I see these videos, the more I get invested into the story of each and every character. Won’t play LOL though but the arcs are amazing and inspiring in my own journey, Thank you LOL for inspiring me.
Yes she’s probably portrayed differently because unlike season 1 she’s going through a civil war.. oh and that possibly her daughter died during this civil war but hey that wouldn’t change anything
the show doesn’t spell it out for us but it seems pretty obvious to me that to a noxian having the leading parties of a state (including her daugther) nuked in their stronghold constitutes a declaration of total war as Zaun presents itself as a threat that needs to be conquered. Let’s not forget the noxian motto by which ambessa probably also lives “kill them, until they are family”
I think she is another insane champion from noxus I wanted to see in game for years, holy moly, a female kratos fighter bruiser without a mana but with rage
It was the opposite for me. I really ignored her, because the plot was so interesting (about powder, vi and silko). I really did not think she was that deep or crucial. But in season 2, I think she really cemented the character.
Honestly, I think Ambessa has always stated what her goals and plans are from the beginning. She wants to protect her family and she will even turn the world ablaze to accomplish that. Act 2 is just us watching her follow up on those words.
I am excited for her outward simple mindedness and single goal of violence in the next season- bc I’m pretty sure that, like Jinx, it’s all going to be a cover up to mask and cope with the grief of losing her estranged daughter. this about to be the funnest and most complex dive into grief and the trauma response that comes with losing someone you never really knew. I get the feeling Ambessa and Jinx are going to parallel each other a lot next season- Ambessa losing her daughter and Jinx losing her sister (metaphorically), both of them being blood they never had any true attachment to. It makes me think to that the little brown haired person is going to be more important and we are going to see more of them, Ambessa might lose him (metaphorically).
I think we'll be in good hands. So far, Arcane has established itself to be vague within its trailers. It's kind of like an Attack on Titan or Chainsaw Man trailer in that regard, where enough is shown to get an idea, but what really matters is left out so that nobody, and I mean nobody without prior/advanced knowledge can predict what will happen. Ambessa will be a legendary character, especially with lines like "we do not lament death...we avenge it."

Noxians outside of Noxus are human…Noxians in Noxus are exactly what they need to be and that’s relentless leaders. Thats your mistake for assuming she was anything less.
Actually I would say this makes perfect sense for her character. She was an antagonistic character. If anything this isn’t a deconstruction or rather a reduction of her character. She’s just removing one of the masks she’s constructed over the years to don another.
bad take imo, ambessa may have a villain role but lots of arcane trailers, s1 and 2, make out characters to be one dimensional. they dont develop in the trailers but in the show
Yeah, you can never get a good read on characters just from trailers. As a matter of fact, trailers often mislead you intentionally, so it is highly likely that the trailers are trying to mislead us into thinking that Ambessa is going to be a simple villain.
After seeing what she is in league by her voice lines I just hope they won’t break her in arcane God fucking damn it, her voice lines are so fucking bad when it comes to Noxus She out there treating Darius, guy whose banner, just banner is enough to win sieges and one of strongest warriors there is right now in noxus I understand swain, but he was also high ranking general that saw great success. His rise to power was quick, so it would be little suspicious to others I understand Draven, but he still is unbelievably willed warrior, he became gladiator for attention and if I remember is champion of noxus arenas. If you want to succeed in fighting ring, you go to noxus to be big I really don’t have too much hope but enough not to be fully pessimistic
Her actions seems to be motivated more by desperation than shallow ambition. She has to many ennemies and they outgun the Medardas she needs hex tech to be weaponised, yes, but also done so on a mass scale. Hence why she orchestrated the attack on the memorial.
Im a big fan of letting “bad” characters stay “bad”. I love and adore complex characters but im so tired of shows forcing redemptions or making you “understand them”. Ambessa is such an interesting and complex character and she should STAY as that, no forced “redemption”. She isn’t a “good” person, but there’s so much to her that made her the way she is. I hope season 2 explores what made Ambessa, well, Ambessa. But i will be disappointed if they “make her good”

Well so far in the new season they portray her getting more and more desperate so her moves become seemingly more without thought or effort but really they're just rushed because,well I'm not gonna spoil but something seems to be pushing her more into a corner and so her moves are more direct headstrong and less complex,this sort of lessening of her brains and high level plans seems to be very intentional and have a good reason in the story from what ive seen so far from season 2

I don't know a lot about LOL lore, I only care because of Arcane. I really like Arcane because of how complex the characters are and the fact that almost nothing is black and white. I would be really upset if they changed this to fit into typical roles in stories.
SPOILERS: They did, in fact, NOT deconstruct her character. If anything, her character was reinforced and her motivations slowly getting revealed were really well handled and foreshadowed perfectly. I love how Act One was slowly giving us pieces to the larger pizzle before finally giving us that jaw-dropping reveal and setting up the future arcs in Act Two. And I'm excited to see how her manipulations continue to have a domino effect on the rest of the characters, particularly Caitlyn. Especially since it seems Mel won't be around to call her out after her encounter with the Black Rose. As always, Arcane continues to be a masterclass of writing and character dynamic.
I don’t think they would do that. It’s just a trailer it’s giving us a small peak, but it probably is hiding a lot of the character development Ambessa will get. Similarly to how they are hiding Jayce and Viktor.

I think... you shouldn't judge a whole characters arc based on teasers and trailers, yk? They could surprise us, and I'd also be disappointed, but Arcane writers know what they're doing, so I place my trust in them with her storyline and how she acts in the show as she is also one of my most favourite characters from the show.
They killed her last living child. Her daughter. Who wanted peace and to release Zaun and let them have independence. She always considered that a form of weakness and as her daughter is now dead, it makes sense she wants her avenged and the resistance squashed as revenge.

1. If Mel died in the initial attack, its a very emotional reaction that would develop her as a mother.
2. If Mel didn’t die in the initial attack, its a very calculated decision. Trying to get Mels trust back, while also saving Piltover as a partner to get Hextech.
3. It also could just be plot convenience.
Point 1 and 2 would both create a deep and rich character with a lot of impact on other parts of the story.
Point 3 while possible is improbable as season 1 and 2 are from the same feather and season 1 had exactly one plot convenience that could be solved by implying knowledge to one singular character (talking about Vanders Bunny scene).
This doesn’t track.
Seeing Mel in promotional material alive and all well (assuming no switcheroo in the timelines) means she survived.
Aka Ambessa rejects Change and still is a warmonger (which then could lead into the death of Mel changing her so she fulfills the theme setting up a Duality to season 1 [aka the motif of season 1]).

I’m the complete opposite. I saw her as a manipulator who only cared about power even tho she told Mel otherwise. However, I think we’re getting more of her background based on the song Blood Sweat and Tears for season 2. Ambessa in season 1 seemed willing and even desired for Piltover to go to war do she could use HexTech. With Mel potentially harmed or dead, her motivation hopefully will change.
Arcane has made Silco, a seemingly simple villain, be extremely complex and I think they will do the same with Ambessa. She's a real warrior and leader that will be ruthless if necessary to protect the things and people under her. I think we will see a amazing deconstruction of why she turned out this way
The more I see these videos, the more I get invested into the story of each and every character. Won’t play LOL though but the arcs are amazing and inspiring in my own journey, Thank you LOL for inspiring me.

the show doesn’t spell it out for us but it seems pretty obvious to me that to a noxian having the leading parties of a state (including her daugther) nuked in their stronghold constitutes a declaration of total war as Zaun presents itself as a threat that needs to be conquered. Let’s not forget the noxian motto by which ambessa probably also lives “kill them, until they are family”
Yeah after S2 act 2 she strikes me as a power hungry war general who doesn’t care if she hurts others as long as she reaches her end goal

I think she is another insane champion from noxus I wanted to see in game for years, holy moly, a female kratos fighter bruiser without a mana but with rage
It was the opposite for me. I really ignored her, because the plot was so interesting (about powder, vi and silko). I really did not think she was that deep or crucial. But in season 2, I think she really cemented the character.

Honestly, I think Ambessa has always stated what her goals and plans are from the beginning. She wants to protect her family and she will even turn the world ablaze to accomplish that. Act 2 is just us watching her follow up on those words.
I am excited for her outward simple mindedness and single goal of violence in the next season- bc I’m pretty sure that, like Jinx, it’s all going to be a cover up to mask and cope with the grief of losing her estranged daughter. this about to be the funnest and most complex dive into grief and the trauma response that comes with losing someone you never really knew. I get the feeling Ambessa and Jinx are going to parallel each other a lot next season- Ambessa losing her daughter and Jinx losing her sister (metaphorically), both of them being blood they never had any true attachment to. It makes me think to that the little brown haired person is going to be more important and we are going to see more of them, Ambessa might lose him (metaphorically).
I think we'll be in good hands. So far, Arcane has established itself to be vague within its trailers. It's kind of like an Attack on Titan or Chainsaw Man trailer in that regard, where enough is shown to get an idea, but what really matters is left out so that nobody, and I mean nobody without prior/advanced knowledge can predict what will happen. Ambessa will be a legendary character, especially with lines like "we do not lament death...we avenge it."

She was completely believable as a character who could kick anyone’s ass including Caitlyns, and a fierce leader that her troops would follow.
I’m so confused on how people see a character for a short amount of time then see that character act a little differently then complain that the character is being deconstructed even though they never saw how the character actually acts

Actually I would say this makes perfect sense for her character. She was an antagonistic character. If anything this isn’t a deconstruction or rather a reduction of her character. She’s just removing one of the masks she’s constructed over the years to don another.
Arcane already gave me Jinx and Silco, two incredibly complex villainous characters. I trust they'll repeat it with Ambessa.

Yeah, you can never get a good read on characters just from trailers. As a matter of fact, trailers often mislead you intentionally, so it is highly likely that the trailers are trying to mislead us into thinking that Ambessa is going to be a simple villain.

Her actions seems to be motivated more by desperation than shallow ambition. She has to many ennemies and they outgun the Medardas she needs hex tech to be weaponised, yes, but also done so on a mass scale. Hence why she orchestrated the attack on the memorial.
Im a big fan of letting “bad” characters stay “bad”. I love and adore complex characters but im so tired of shows forcing redemptions or making you “understand them”. Ambessa is such an interesting and complex character and she should STAY as that, no forced “redemption”. She isn’t a “good” person, but there’s so much to her that made her the way she is. I hope season 2 explores what made Ambessa, well, Ambessa. But i will be disappointed if they “make her good”

I think it would be interesting to make a character that is a true ruler. Of course she loves her children of course she loves her people, and she would do ANYTHING to protect them. Anything. Coming from after act 2, these fears have most definitely been put to rest. She’s way more than just a shallow antagonist, and she continues being incredibly interesting
Ambessa is still a complex character, complex characters can be bad and evil. Shes literally like silco. Shes cares for jer family and wants to save her family from the black rose guild

Well so far in the new season they portray her getting more and more desperate so her moves become seemingly more without thought or effort but really they're just rushed because,well I'm not gonna spoil but something seems to be pushing her more into a corner and so her moves are more direct headstrong and less complex,this sort of lessening of her brains and high level plans seems to be very intentional and have a good reason in the story from what ive seen so far from season 2

Silco was never just an antagonist either, I don't like ambessa now because I feel she is one of the least nuanced and likable characters, but I suspect she will be much more fleshed out as a mc in season 2
I think war strips people of personality so dose vengeance so if done well we can see Ambessa lose depth because of her rage

I don't know a lot about LOL lore, I only care because of Arcane. I really like Arcane because of how complex the characters are and the fact that almost nothing is black and white. I would be really upset if they changed this to fit into typical roles in stories.

They did, in fact, NOT deconstruct her character. If anything, her character was reinforced and her motivations slowly getting revealed were really well handled and foreshadowed perfectly. I love how Act One was slowly giving us pieces to the larger pizzle before finally giving us that jaw-dropping reveal and setting up the future arcs in Act Two. And I'm excited to see how her manipulations continue to have a domino effect on the rest of the characters, particularly Caitlyn. Especially since it seems Mel won't be around to call her out after her encounter with the Black Rose. As always, Arcane continues to be a masterclass of writing and character dynamic.

I think... you shouldn't judge a whole characters arc based on teasers and trailers, yk? They could surprise us, and I'd also be disappointed, but Arcane writers know what they're doing, so I place my trust in them with her storyline and how she acts in the show as she is also one of my most favourite characters from the show.
I think the trailers are probably trying to trick us like with season 1 and they havent shown us the build up they have only shown us half her arc
They killed her last living child. Her daughter. Who wanted peace and to release Zaun and let them have independence.
She always considered that a form of weakness and as her daughter is now dead, it makes sense she wants her avenged and the resistance squashed as revenge.
I didn't see anything to make me doubt the quality of her writing. It could turn bad, but the show gave me no reason to worry
