      Hi guys I'm subbed to the two of you & your advice is helping me immensely, although I'm a flatbow trad shooter using gap aiming (at the moment at least, early days for me shooting seriously, previously more just fun lobbing arrows in the general vicinity of the boss, perhaps I will change disciplines once I join my local field club & can try out some of the club gear).
      Do you guys know of someone offering excellent advice like you two but in a trad context on youtube? The ones I've found although appreciated seem to lack the technical aspects & seem focused on instinctive shooting which is not my cup of tea. Thanks in advance for any response & the videos guys!

    Hey Robert, you were RIGHT! I just went out and practiced and found out that, like you say, I am "scrunched up". My draw length is about 1" too short. I'm SOOOO glad I watched this video!!! Thanks! BTW, I'm now subscribed!

Ive been learning about bowhunting and have watched TONS of youtube videos! and I JUST FOUND THIS! If I were you id maybe change the title and add words or something most ppl would search like "good archery form" or "bio-mechanics of bowhunting". Im happy I found this but I wish I found it earlier!

    Really good video ! I like the bow arm tips a lot. I worked on mine and that has made a big difference. Also something I notice a lot of our students talk about is after they settle into the shot the bow is naturally sitting low on the target. Not sure if you see that also but we work with them on shoulder alignment to get it to "sit" better.

    • @rcrchery
      @rcrchery  8 лет назад

      Shoulder alignment really helps the up and down portion for sure! I see the issue when the shoulder gets raised up and the arm drops down. I'm a big believer in energy having a direction too, so I'll set my bows up with a front weight bias to make myself hold the arm up some. Just enough to get the muscles engaged and it'll help me hold a little steadier on target. Then use the loop height/tiller to center my dot.

    Having issues missing to the left. My tendency is to lean back a little bit this video has helped with that issue. Could it be my release hand causing my left miss?

    • @rcrchery
      @rcrchery  4 года назад

      It could be if the hand is popping out away from your face. It could also be that you're getting too weak on your pull and pushing shots off to the left with your bow arm.

    • @bengentry6357
      @bengentry6357 4 года назад

      @@rcrchery just so i understand what your saying.. it could be that my release hand is moving away from my face on the release or it could be. Or it could be that im not pulling hard enough into the back wall? Im shooting a thumb button and feel like sometimes i punch it from time to time

    • @rcrchery
      @rcrchery  4 года назад

      Yes, that is correct. Since you're saying you're punching at times it's probably getting weak on the back end and pushing forward too hard on the bow arm.

    What's the best size aiming point to use on my 6x lense for indoors 20 yards I'm getting mixed opinions from people. I currently am using a dot that covers up the yellow 9 and 10 Ring's but am thinking of going with a smaller aiming point what do you recommend?

    • @rcrchery
      @rcrchery  4 года назад

      It's a personal preference thing. I like to have an aiming reference that's smaller than the ten ring so I can see where I'm at inside it, or around it haha. I've tried the bigger reference before and it worked okay but I found myself wanting to look around it more and more as time went on. People use both though so whatever works best for you!

    I use the (excessively ?) open stance for a side wind because it feels more stable with the wind coming across me (it could be a sign of something, but it seems to help with the wind)

    • @rcrchery
      @rcrchery  Год назад

      I can see that helping in a cross wind but I would say stabilizer set up could help you. Creating a heavier weight bias by adjusting the back bar out away from the bow some.

    On tip #5 with anchor point you talk about having a stright wrist and hving it i line with your elbow. I have a bend in mine but my elbow isnt pointing down its pointing way up. Any ideas on what i can do to correct that? Or should i not worry about it

    John Dudley talks about HIL tuning in some of his old articles. I noticed he talks about HIL tuning indoor arrows. I was curious if you can make a short video on the indoor arrow version. I'm not sure how to do it since I would be shooting a multi color target with 3 spots. I can't shoot the same spot or I'd destroy my fatty shafts. An insight would be great.

    • @rcrchery
      @rcrchery  8 лет назад

      For indoor you can do the same method shooting at different spots as you would by tracking group patterns on a single spot at distance. What you'll want to do is measure the group patterns that develop on each target spot. You can also shoot indoor rounds/games and keep track of scoring and x count with different settings as well. I use an app called ArcherZUpshot and I can track every point of impact with this while I'm testing different combinations. That way I can look back and see what a certain set up did for me grouping and scoring wise, then see if my next combination is going in the right direction or not.

    Very good tips. I need to work on my reo hitch. My main issue is my sciatic nerve. So in general I'll tilt back even with no bow.
    Also an unusual problem is my bow arm is 30.5" and my draw arm is 28.5. This has caused me bone alignment issues

    • @rcrchery
      @rcrchery  8 лет назад

      You may need a lean if it doesn't bother the nerve issue. It's something I'd be careful about, so you don't flare something up.

  • @michaeledwards7668

    Hey Robert, question, I know your bow arm should be parallel to the ground or make a T shape and your bow hand should be a little higher than your front shoulder when gripping the bow. Does that form hold true no matter what the distance, like you shouldn't have to drop your bow arm to have to align your pin on target??

    • @rcrchery
      @rcrchery  5 лет назад

      Your form does stay the same, minus some rare extreme angles, when changing heights. You'd bend at the waist to lower the sight picture down or raise the sight picture up.

    • @michaeledwards7668
      @michaeledwards7668 5 лет назад

      @@rcrchery thx for getting back to me, I guess what I'm having some trouble with is, suppose I draw back from 20 yards my peep is aligned with my sight, my bow arm is where it should be and my pin is set for 20 yards yet I feel like I have to lower my bow arm to get the pin on target, is that an issue with setting the,sight up? If I understand you correctly if you,are on a flat surface your stance should look the same all the time.

    • @rcrchery
      @rcrchery  5 лет назад

      It depends on target height versus distance. If the target is around your shoulder/chest height you'd be level at 20, but most ranges they're lower than that.

  • @ryancamacho7433

    Great tips Robert. I'm new to compound archery and these tips have been great to fix all my nuances. Anyways there is a nuance that I can't seem to get rid off. I'm not sure if my draw length is short but I have the need to adjust all of my anchor Point just to See squarely on the peep. Especially my head I have to look down and all of my anchor point is thrown out the window. What do you think Robert?

    • @rcrchery
      @rcrchery  5 лет назад

      Could be too short on draw length or loop length or incorrect peep height.

    For someone wanting to start with compound/target, would you recommend a wrist or hand release to begin with?

      I would recommend a hand held release. Better alignment on the release arm and shoulder.

    Hi from Finland. Great videos and very helpful too. I have one question about my shooting form. I have a bit too much draw lenght with my bow. But it helps me to get my back muscles to work the shot if you understand what i mean. But i have now very serious aiming problem. My pins are all the time on the right side of the target i am trying to hit. Is it possible that my draw lenght is the problem or what ? Br Mikko Kyle

    what is the string on you left thumb for?

    • @rcrchery
      @rcrchery  8 лет назад

      It's a finger sling. It catches the bow on the shot for me and keeps it from coming out of my hand.

    • @KalvinLo
      @KalvinLo 8 лет назад

      is this equivalent to an strap?

    • @rcrchery
      @rcrchery  8 лет назад

      Somewhat yes. same concept. I just prefer the finger version as I feel more confident in it's application and it catching my bow each time. The riser of my bow will actually come out to it and that's what keeps my bow from coming completely out of my hand.

    I see one that you're doing not pulling your bow back straight.

      I prefer to not pull the string straight back to my face and instead have it slightly off to the side just in case anything happens with the release firing prematurely. No broken noses!
