Oh boy...I can relate to Chet's conversation. I had a garage that was supposed to go up this fall...now here come winter and the workers didn't show up after the concrete was poured last week! I don't want winter so soon! I can relate to Dougo's road building project, too. I bought my house late summer and found out after the purchase that the road was rebuilt this spring in front of the house and all of the 100 yards of landscape sprinkler irrigation heads that had been on the property along the road for 15-plus years are now paved over with asphalt. The road got shifted toward my house when it was rebuilt and the sprinkler heads did not get moved.
Doug I can feel your pain. I worked for a general contractor for 38 years. When you dealt with the state you always found different rules. I would bet if you went down the hwy and got a different inspector on site it would be a whole different problem. That is why road contractors constantly pulling their hair out.
An engineer is never “wrong”. They just always tend to overcomplicate things. Never could understand if something is working fine and correctly for years, why a design change “is needed”. Keep it simple!!
It’s not just there in MN….TX DOT finally cleaned my bar-ditch-first time since 2002 and they made it uphill to the creek. Water now flows opposite direction and ditch floods. I bypassed any paperwork and was tired of calling and dug a trench with my box blade. County drainage man stopped and watched for a while and I was waiting for a discussion, but he left. I was ready with their line “state highway and we have nothing to do with it”. Nice job by the way.
Greetings from north Florida! We always enjoy your videos. The weather reminds me of our years of living in Iowa, Illinois, and Michigan. Today, I only enjoy the snow I see in RUclips. However, we will be below freezing on Saturday night. Take care and be safe...
Dougo, there should be county records on said property unless your state is different on how they do things like here in KS. Don't ever worry about throwing anyone under the bus, if it was done wrong, it should have been corrected when it was first done. Cheers :)
😮Thanks for the memories of why I left Indiana so many years ago. I’m enjoying my life here in SunCityWest Az though I’m sweating with temps in the high 70’s. 😅
Happy Thanksgiving Larson Family! Hope you are having a blessed day. Thanks for sharing the permit struggles; I'm dealing with permitting process in my county In WA State and it is something else.
Repaved a 2 lane highway a few years ago near me in Ontario Canada. In the winter when the sun is low, you can see the waves. When you start driving on this section, it feels like you have a wheel bearing going bad. This was from the get go.
Happy Thanksgiving Amy, Chet, Doug, Eric, Brody and other farm hands.. You guys are the highlight of my day when I sit back and laugh at you guys.. All the way from Coastal Eastern North Carolina... Washington, NC.
Hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving. Down here in Alabama everyone is frozen solid when the temp is 50 degrees . I wish it would get down to 10 degrees here, i love the cold.
Doug wasn't himself in this video.😁 Unusually polite! The engineering firm probably never took field tile outlets into consideration in the bid document.
My dad worked for UDOT and he complained about the red tape that he had to dill with and he was the supervisor over the roads. I know that the people who set policies are not the people who fix the problems and they don't understand how difficult they make it for use to fix their problems. We feel the struggle.
The Problem was the Contractor. They are follow a Budget. If they go over then less $$$ in there Pocket. This is why they cut corners. We see the same thing up here in Canada. God Bless.
Neat to see the coyote tracks sure they're look for a pheasant dinner. Are friends in Nelson always send us pheasant pictures. Glad you got a digging permit when I worked for Koch Pipeline a farmer with a backhoe hit a 8 in ammonia line which wasn't pretty.
Happy Thanksgiving 🍁🦃 to Amy and Dougo and the Larson family!!!!!! Enjoy your special day. Thanks for explaining the ditch work you did and what permits you had to get. Sounds like some errors were made along the way and you did the right thing by fixing it up the way it should have been in the first place. Nice work Dougo. My blessings to you both. God bless you both. The Iowa farm boy. Steve
we can blame the contractor, which is at fault BUT I also blame the state inspector that allowed them to fix it that way.have them look that person up and have him held accountable.
So- nobody was inspecting the road and subsequent ditch work done three years ago? That’s my take. Lol. I think every state could use our own DOGE when all the federal DOGE dust settles!
Probably the highway crew was a lowest bid contractor. It is a wonder they fixed the tile outlet at all and didn’t just bury it. No chance they would add more work to their plate and redo it right. They also probably were not subject to the same inspector you were, so they didn’t know it needed to be done differently.
So in other words the state engineer never should of signed off on the ditch grade when it was built. The swamp comes in all shapes and sizes, what a mess
They built the road higher and covered the tile outlets. The liability is MN DOT, they should sue the contractor and have it fixed. That a ditch under state jurisdiction doesn't drain the landscape is not a thing in the real world - only on a map . A Farmers collective should sue MN DOT to get it fixed.
Dougo, you aren’t throwing anyone under the bus, you just want stuff done right and there’s not a thing wrong with that
Amy your such a great wife to hold off posting this video. You hardly ever win versus the state
Great video Amy. We certainly hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. Hope everything works out on the ditch and tile repair. 👍❤️
I love to watch Doug run equipment. Especially a semi with the Jake break
Doug should run for govenor
Would be better than the democratic crap they have
He'd probably take tampons out of the men's rooms.
Happy Thanksgiving Amy and Dougo, and family, and all The Larson employees and theirs. May you all have had A Blessed Thanksgiving and a SAFE one 🤗
Doug is a great excavator operator. If he ever wanted to run a excavation company he would have been good
Dougo done a great job and hope that everyone had a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving!

Come on Dougo, there's never time to do it right, but there's always time to do it again!!!
😅
Thanks for sharing Doug

this year my wife did something totally different instead of a frozen turkey she bought a fresh turkey and it was the best one i have ever eaten.

I'd think highway department would've took field drain pipes into account...
Happy Thanksgiving!

Whenever one must deal with a government entity it will be bad.

Yes we know the secret of the Turkey. I will give 1 ingredient. Salt.
Oh how we pay state inspectors and have to fix stuff they passed
chet dont ever let your operator sit in a heated cab while yer out in the cold! even if he is yer dad!
Happy Thanksgiving
Great explanation, Doug.
Happy Thanksgiving to the Larson crew! 🦃
MNDOT not doing their inspections. MNDOT approves the Const work. Walz thanks you for your donation.
Walz…I’ll leave that right here.
MNDOT not doing something correct? Doesn't surprise me that they messed up something!
So, in a nutshell you had to pay them for you to fix it with your excavator, labor, and fuel. Hope you had a good Thanksgiving!
Amy, are you charging interest on your “loan”? 😂
I should.
