Let’s talk bass traps and bass trapping in a home studio.
In particular for treating a recording room, to record drums for example.
Are they useful here as well?
Is there any difference in how you use them compared to a mixing room?
    The short answer is: no.
Physics stays physics. So if you need low end control in a recording room, then bass traps are the obvious way to go.
But HOW you determine if you actually NEED low end control in a recording room is another matter.
And that’s where treating a recording room is fundamentally different from a mixing room.
Let me explain in this week’s video.

Thank you for finally making the distinction between a production studio and a recording studio. So many RUclips videos that claim to be about setting up recording studios actually turn out to be about mixing.

For those of us that record in our basements, I would love to see a video covering the basics of designing a live end/dead end room.
It might have to be a series though.

In a basement, I would not have a live end, just absorb everything, because it's rather hard to engineer a pleasant reverb in a small space and you're more likely to end up with resonance. Dry rooms give amazing clarity, but they bother some people, and you will need some good reverb plugins for your mixing needs.

I suddenly got this realization, that what if I have struggled with my drum tracks all these years just because of standing waves 🤯

Hey, Jesco! Eric Valentine just released a very interesting video about his approach on bass trapping. Do you have any thoughts? I would like to know your insight on this is very interesting.
