    If i pollinate a white lily with a red lily's stigma, there will be a pink lily blooming next season?

      first of all, lilies need at least two or three years from seed germination before they bloom, and in many cases they need even longer; about Lilium colour inheritance, I am not an expert, but I know fundamentals of genetics; in some plant species, crossing red and white flowered plants produces pink flowered plants (intermediate dominance, e.g. peas), but in some others, can either produce red or white, being the colour showing up in the offspring called "dominant", and the one not showing up in the offspring "recessive"; however, these offspring will still carry the "white" factor in their genes, so if you cross between them, an average of 25% will result white, and 75% red. In other species, there might be "overdominance" crossing red with white flowers (e.g. producing flowers of a darker red than one of the parent) and in some others species, the offspring might even be of a completely different colour. On top of that, your plants might have genes from their ancestors not showing up in your plants, but that might show up in the offspring you produce. The best way is to experiment with your plants, you might end up with amazing colours.

    When do you see the results of this? Do you have to wait till the next bloom?

    Can I pollinate Lily using pollen from same plant but different flower??

    • @plantreviewsuk1204
      @plantreviewsuk1204  Год назад +1

      usually it is not a problem, as I found that many lilies can be self-pollinated

      @@plantreviewsuk1204 Are falling petals a sign that flower got pollinated? I used a fine painting brush 0,4mm , I took pollen from one flower and covered with it tip of female shaft of second flower, then second flower lost petals almost immediately, they all fell in a matter of two days.
      Thank you so much for your answer, I really appreciate it!

      @@jakubsolarski2594 falling petals are signs that the flower is fading, so it can be because it was pollinated, or just because of the flower ageing. What is a good sign of successful pollination, is that the ovary of the "female" flower swells, that means it is starting producing seeds.
