Thanks heaps Sue for the amazing reaction. You we’re spot on about what the song is about. Cold Chisel are such a great rock band love their music and they have 2 lead singers in Jimmy Barnes and Ian Moss. You gotta check them out live performing “bow river” and “when the war is over” live Ringside 2003

The Battle of Khe Sanh, in the Vietnam War, was from 21st January to 9th July 1968

Glad you enjoyed that Sue. They cover a lot of different genres and all band members wrote songs but their piano player was a genius songwriter and they actually have two lead singers in Jim Barnes and Ian Moss(why would you need two if you had Jimmy? ). I suggest you next check out their live version of "When the war is over", from their Ringside concerts, where both sing. It's a ballad. You won't be disappointed.

Khe Sanh, an area in Vietnam, pretty sure Aussies were never there. Did not stop one of this country"s greatest 20th century composers using a bit of license. Thanks Don Walker! FKN Great piece of music, performed oh so well by Chisel and many others also. Chisel Live beats the hell out of studio recording. ONLY 19 is another Aussie anti war anthem based around Vietnam.

I’m so glad you love Jimmy’s voice. He is my favourite singer of all time. He joined Chisel at the age of 16. This song does have a country rock sound…as for Chisel, they have so much catalogue of great songs, with ballads like Forever Now (best live version is from their 1982 Rockapalast concert in Germany). Forever now is at 39 minutes. It has clearer sound than the official version. So many good songs on this set list….
    ruclips.net/video/zc3gDLjqZyQ/видео.htmlsi=u2a1y_OCsrKnqkwB
However they also have rock songs like Goodbye (Astrid), and a little reggae with Breakfast at Sweethearts (mainly the background music), or some soul music… That being said, in their homeland of Australia we would class their music as pub rock. And let me tell you they were one of the best at it. The pub rock bands in Australia, had to kill it in live performances at pubs and clubs to make it here, doing multiple gigs each night, and travelling our very big country. Only the best of the best did well in this scene, and you can’t get much better than Chisel.
Ian Moss, who plays the guitar also has a great voice, but the harmonies they have just puts the icing on the cake!

Hey kazz, thanks for the amazing comment...love the background info. I look forward to hearing more from them. I love bands that have a versatile sound that you just can't pin down. 🤩💙

Glad you enjoyed that, this is one of my favourites. I suggest you react 2 a live performance next. I would start with when the war is over live from their Ringside concert that way you get to check out Mossy and Barnsey both singing with Mossy taking the lead, they compliment each other so well. If you liked the instrumentals in this one you will be blown away from “bow river” performance

Hi Sue. Please remember the email I sent with links to the best quality Cold Chisel videos. There's a lot of shabby quality videos on their official channel. The links to the good quality videos really do come across well on reaction channels. You don't want to sit through mono music-videos from the early 80's. My email had links to the same clips but are in HD with a CD audio merge and all the good stuff.

    • @shmick6079
      @shmick6079 6 месяцев назад +1

      Agreed.
No idea why the Forever Now audio is so poor or why they didn’t use the 2003 footage for the official Bow River video.

@@shmick6079 It's strange! But anyway, I'm trying to make people aware of the best uploads of CC material on RUclips. I think 50 channels have already done reactions using the poor CC quality clips. Hope Play It Again Sue doesn't become one of them.
      Hint, hint Sue...

Great reaction to an Aussie classic. In addition to all the other comments I can say they reformed and toured several times after initially breaking up in 83. Even releasing four new, original albums since reforming in 1997. Jimmy's solo career is his main focus but the band is still ongoing....touring every so often for fun. They still draw huge crowds. A couple of recommendations to show their width would be 'Goodbye (Astrid Goodbye)' & 'Saturday Night'

Hey Mrparksies, thanks a bunch. I didn't know they still toured. That is cool. Have you ever seen them. They are clearly very well loved in Australia. I think that is awesome. This is a really good song 🤩

Never saw them in their heyday. Saw them in the mentioned by others 'Ringside Tour' in 03. They were older (as we all were) but still had it. Sadly the drummer (Steve) passed suddenly from a brain tumor in 2011.They have had another since 2012. They were always tight and made sure Steve's family would always legally receive his copyright payments. Looking forward to what you watch next. Thanks. @@playitagainsue

Khe Sanh was a battle in Vietnam, which the Aussies weren't involved in, but the lyrics certainly work better than they would for Long Tan (which was the most famous battle the Australians had in Vietnam). Musically, it's not really country-pop (and country music in Australia is pretty different to country music in America), it's actually closer to a 12-bar blues song.

Thanks for getting a start in Chisel, Sue. You won't be disappointed. No two songs are the same.
This is a legendary Australian rock band, that although having massive supporter base and being beloved for 50 years in Oz, are known little outside these shores. Their live shows are legendary, songwriting greatness from all 5 band members and the unique vocal pairing of Jimmy Barnes (singer) and Ian Moss (guitarist) make every song an amazing journey.
The discography is huge, but here are a couple of songs to get you started.
Bow River - Live 2003 Ringside tour - a pure pub rock / blues based song that builds and soars and just keeps raising the bar.
    ruclips.net/video/TdVRNDnTKTU/видео.html&ab_channel=BruceBarber
Wild Thing - Live 1983 The Last Stand tour - even though they were breaking up at the time, still at the top of their game. This cover of The Troggs classic is quite possibly the greatest live rock track ever recorded.
    ruclips.net/video/8Z6RjUi3rmE/видео.html&ab_channel=GlennThomas
Then the list goes on and on - Saturday Night, Four Walls, When the War is Over, Forever now , etc, etc,etc

Cold Chisel is a far deeper and better rabbit hole than Jimmy’s solo stuff - not to say Jimmy doesn’t have great solo stuff, it’s just not on the same level.
Cold Chisel is actually quite diverse, and mostly centred around rock. Incredible band.
