How to Build A Garage #2 Lasers and Columns

- In this video I attempt to show you how we determine grade and efficiently and accurately prep our columns for building. The use of a story pole is key, as well as correctly identifying grade on every bracket. I broke this video up into 2 separate videos due to the time length crossing over 30 minutes.

For me, the ideas in ruclips.net/user/postUgkxAfqpMLyFn37qcqUl0FAzqkkycQeXqrhP Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.
This is SPAM, right?
I'm watching this again for the fourth, fifth or sixth time. This was my first build series when I stumbled onto the channel and I've been a fan ever since. Today is 05/13/2023 and it's just past 10:00pm cst.
What makes this more remarkable is that you do it all in inches. You lost me at 11/16ths. I’d have to use metric but it’s what your taught. Like this format of video
lol
Can't take credit for this but a lot sheet metal people around here predrill holes in sheet metal so there screw lines are always straight. They'll stack it about a inch thick making sure bottom is even before drilling. Y'all do awesome work.
I go through my RUclips channels I never skip your videos. Thanks for sharing.
Its nice seeing you guys working without your cold weather gear.
gwharton68 you’re telling me
Best explainaitory video I have ever watched.
I’ve never watched a video with so much detail and explanations of what is going on for every little step.
How cool, thanks for all the info and help. 💥🔥
Stayed up to watch the whole thing. Kept my attention. Couldn't be better.
That laser beep is making my dog run around the house barking at the smoke detectors... haha
"The customers think it looks good". That is because IT IS GOOD....very professional!

Sun's out, guns out! Great build!
You guys are very good at this
My new favorite series. :)
I have no idea at all what this dude is explaining at any point. I just like the nice pictures.
I'm totally using that hammer claw trick for the metal strapping next time I have to lol! I'm going to act like I've done it before too :P
The removable center piece in those posts is a game changer..
I think almost all of the three ply posts come with this option now
Great videos and generous of you to make them. But its so much easier in millimeters :) Greetings from Oz (Down Under:)
the thing with the Hammer literally just changed my life
This man has details of what to do! Love it!
I'm gonna all watch these vids and then when my head is full build a structure, I hope.
8:38 had an eerie flashback to "Mystery Science Theater 3000"!
Bruh I'm building a 8 x 12 shed. I watched your videos and got all hyped up and went out there to start construction. Fuck off for making this look so easy. Nice work.
You obviously know what you are doing but I never have any idea what you are talking about! However, I do enjoy your videos.
The Tubafoor framing man makes it look much easier.
You tell me 2 videos but only upload one! Now what am I supposed to do at work before lunch?! Great stuff as usual!
kids stay in school, do the math, learn the skills, too many show up on the job site with no clue. and work safe, saves the L/I
claims for your employer thanks good vid
I watch alot of your videos. Love them. All of the tips you give are the truth and i do this also but do concrete with a laser and its great having a laser. and what we say when someone gets in front of the laser is "Your daddy wasn't a glass maker boy , move." LOL gets me everytime
Nice video. Your system is so well thought out.
Great explanation of the story pole
It is very cool. I study the imperial system and English language to better understand these videos.
A great work day.
just what i need for the day! thank you!
Right on the money with everything…great job
@115* In Bullhead City AZ I still wear a long sleeve... fu[k the sun! You have good knowledge here
I like your philosophy and methodology
your so swift at everything
Your videos make me wanna switch professions
VERY KOOL STEP by STEP
AND TUTORIAL HERE KYLE 👍🏼.....
( KNUCKLE👊🏽BUMP ) RR'Buildings...
Great video thanks for sharing have a great day
Excellent Presentation
Recently found your channel. Have watched several videos and will view more and repeat. I plan to build a similar size shop but have never taken on anything like this but am not totally green either. The story board seems essential for consistancy but i get lost in the details. Ill get it but will take some study
Lasers and Craig = no good lol good video as usual guys👍
+mr somthinbasic215 Greg**
SalandFindles It's the same thing😂
The crazy fractional measurements are SO much easier using millimeters/centimeters. I used to loathe metric, but now I'm hooked. I'll never go back to "English" (aka "Imperial").
Sun's out, guns out! Great video!! You are giving me the confidence to start building!!
I was building confidence until the measuring of post started and the phone app calculator came out. I was lost.
@@jeffsmith6825 same here. I think i know exactly what he talking about, and then 3 words later i was like what just happened...
A true professional
bless your soul for the free education
Damn Bro, Wish you were building that in my yard.
Great video again, looks like you guys have new hammers.😎
Love you're videos. Putting plans together for a 33x48x14 post frame garage. I have a story board question. When setting up your story board for a 12 foot high ceiling (bottom of trusses), you measure 12ft from the bottom of the story board, which is the 'grade' reference. However that datum is about 1-1/2in above the top of the cement pier. Since the top of finish floor is about 6in above the cement pier, that puts the ceiling height to the finished floor less than 12ft, or about 11' 7-1/2". If I want a 12ft ceiling to finished floor, then shouldn't my story board distance to ceiling be 12' 4-1/2"? Thanks.... Dan
Awesome video... thanks very much!
I agree that a little tidiness, transparency and logic is a huge part of building trust and therefore sales. When I'm driving around town and I see a job site like that I note down the company name. If I find videos like this, then it's a no brainer to hire them. So not only is it good for the current client and their word of mouth marketing, but also for the neighbours and people driving by. Totally subscribing to this channel, really appreciate the good content!
thank you
great info, learned a ton.
You are very great man .
I have learned alot from you .
Could you do a follow up on the story pole. Maybe with a drawing on a white board including the grade, bracket, grade girt, wainscot, soffet nailer, truss and overhang. I've watched that segment several times and I'm still lost. I've also watched the SP short video and it didn't help. Tx. I know these seems very basic for a seasoned PF builder, but I have no experience in this area.
I will work on that
@@RRBuildings I created a drawing of what I got from the video. I didn't come up with the same number though. Here is the link: cad.onshape.com/documents/77ce143a64cef6ee7b0642a5/w/4d0ca62618d1beaf05d65e67/e/84978bd606fe6273d57536fe You have to sign up for OnShape to export the file. It is free for noncommercial use. Thanks.
Yes a drawing would help us dumb folk lol
@RRBuildings did you ever do an update on the story pole. I would love to learn this
5:10 - 6:43
That's where I realize what it feels like when I start talking IP networking to people.
Haha
Great stuff Kyle. Let us know if you’d be interested in testing out one of our rigs.
I’ve heard good things
kstumpenhorst@gmail.com if you’d like to talk about it
Awesome job guy's you rock :)
would love to see how lay out your wall girts. do you set to edge or center
Hey buff guy .....good job!
Very informative
It looks like there is some serious twist in the post that I would not have expected. Is there any problems associated with this that we should know about? Thank you for all you do! I feel like I’m attending a tech school.
Love these videos
Great job
Kyle do you order your trusses 3” shorter than the full outside dimension? And do the center inserts of the columns always get cut right at the ceiling height after putting story pole on grade mark?
Where can i get the supports you use on the posts that are set in concrete....? Awesome video's by the way.
This dude is building the shit out of this garage
I am wanting to build a 24x30 2 9 foot wide doors on 30 foot side but also the trusses running the 24 foot. Wanting your opinion on how to frame that side with the doors since practically all of the trusses would be setting on a header board
You’re the best dude 👍👍👍👍👌👌👌
thanks
I am officially addicted to these videos. Only been subbed a week and have already watched most of your vids. Keep em coming.
I love this channel dude, learning so much. Whats that laser you use called?
you forgot the most important reason you do all the marking and cutting on the ground, the product ends up being better. More consistent cuts because its safer, not worrying about ladders/ swaying equipment etc.
Zifnab exactly
So since 48' can be done in one piece, is that still too long for the homeowner build?
Thank you in advance.
Are the post butts above the concrete floor ?
ever thought of joining the rest of the world and use the metric system lol I enjoyed it
Lol your math is funny shit. You know your numbers and what they mean and how and where they apply and to speak it out would take longer you have, have you running a tangent and possibly having you 2nd guess yourself. Good work. Also appreciate the measure 2x method although you didn't directly state it. ??? How did the bracket come to being about an inch off it everything was level
Freaking genius, bro!!!
Where do I find information about what type of nails and how many nails per piece of lumber is needed to make sure that the structural integrity is good to build a pole barn? I can get a material list and can see what type of material is needed, but the specifics aren't readily available. Do you have any websites or other videos that explain this type of information?
Excellent teaching video. Thank you.
Personal observation and opinion (likely not shared by some), that it's a pleasure to see a man without horrendous tattoos all over the place. Think for yourself. Congrats.
Could you of used the laser level on the post straps when putting them in the concrete and have only one measurement?
Can you get into detail about the measurements for the top of the story pole? Sofit nailer, top of trusses, etc
Hey bro, where to you get your shorts from? Durable, always working in them. I need to know.
Is there a consideration to the depth of foundation for a car/truck lift?
Brother, you get me excited about nails
You're a pro.
You sir, are a badass!
true skill..
dont mind my questions!.....so why didn't you just level all of the cardboard tubes? thought that was the whole purpose of them?
He explained that it would make the concrete wider on the bottom so that it would slip out
I wished you were closer to NC.
What brand are those boots? They look cool. And are they steel-capped?
Good video, lots to learn here. Where is the fine garage located ?
You must Trust in your Truss.
Great info ty
Nice, very nice. I want to work for you. Tell me about that DeWalt cordless saw, very nice.
eXcellent vid thanks !
I knew it, He's Batman! Holy Gun Show!
Lol
Nice work, Popeye!
Those measurements are very inconvenient!
Greg, watch where you stand next time :P
"I tell you what" nice reference if you know what I am referring to.
Like the old carpenters showed me years ago, "more wrist action and less shoulder". That lets the hammer do the work believe it or not. Meyers could hear me nailing the wrong way and would yell from the other side of the house a friendly correction.
Is that new hammers you guys are swinging. What brand are they?
