Today we continue our quick overview of some of the prophetic books of the Old Testament. The last book we will be looking at is the book of Habakkuk.
The prophet Habakkuk lived in a time when the people of God were very wicked. The prophet cried out to God for justice to be done. God responds to Habakkuk and tell him of the punishment to come on the people of God.
This book is very important for us in our time, it describes the end times perfectly. We are to learn from the attitude of Habakkuk who continually cries out to God as he sees the wicked people prosper. Habakkuk waited patiently for God’s answer to his question and God did not hide from him all that he was going to do.
Let us start with the first few verses:
    Habakkuk 1:1-4
1 The prophecy that Habakkuk the prophet received.
    Habakkuk’s Complaint
2 How long, Lord, must I call for help, but you do not listen?Or cry out to you, “Violence!” but you do not save?
3 Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrongdoing?Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and conflict abounds.
4 Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails. The wicked hem in the righteous, so that justice is perverted.
The Prophet Habakkuk lived in a very wicked time of History for his people and as he saw the violence around him he cried out to God for justice to be done. During that time there was a lot of violence and the law could do nothing to stop it because it was paralyzed.
It is very likely that we will find ourselves living in this type of wickedness in the near future. As the False Church proclaims a world wide revival, peace and safety the world is getting more and more violent and wicked. This should not be a surprise to us as it had been clearly prophesied:
    2 Timothy 3:1-5
3 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God- 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
The last days will be terrible times because the people will become extremely wicked and selfish. In the end times, we should not be surprised to see treacherous, rash and conceited people. Even Jesus taught us that the last day will be just like the days of Noah and Lot. The reason God flooded the earth at that time was because the people had become so violent and wicked. In the same way, once the people of this world become that wicked, God will take steps to bring the whole world to an end.
Let us also remember what is prophesied in the book of Revelation about the last days leading up to the time of tribulation:
    Revelation 6:1-4
6 I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, “Come!” 2 I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.
3 When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” 4 Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make people kill each other. To him was given a large sword.
Right before the tribulation starts and right when the Antichrist starts to make his move to take over the earth God is going to allow wickedness to thrive around the world. When the second seal is broken God takes away peace from the earth and the earth is full of violence. This is a good description of the time of the prophet Habakkuk.
Listen to what God says to his Prophet about the wickedness in Israel:
    Habakkuk 1:5-11
5 “Look at the nations and watch- and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told. 6 I am raising up the Babylonians, that ruthless and impetuous people, who sweep across the whole earth to seize dwellings not their own. 7 They are a feared and dreaded people; they are a law to themselves and promote their own honor. 8 Their horses are swifter than leopards, fiercer than wolves at dusk. Their cavalry gallops headlong; their horsemen come from afar. They fly like an eagle swooping to devour; 9 they all come intent on violence. Their hordes advance like a desert wind and gather prisoners like sand. 10 They mock kings and scoff at rulers. They laugh at all fortified cities; by building earthen ramps they capture them. 11 Then they sweep past like the wind and go on- guilty people, whose own strength is their god.”
