Heard this many years ago while driving. Nearly stopped the car. Looked up the band and Nightwish has been my favorite band ever since. Many thanks to the American dj who decided to program something different.
They were young but what a show! Tuomas knew Tapio from the band called Nattvindens Gråt. Tuomas was a session keyboard player in that band and was with them on a small European tour before things really started with Nightwish. Tapio helped the Nightwish guys a lot in the early days and he was a guest singer on the album and occasionally at gigs. Tuomas always had a vision that some songs also have a male voice. Later it became a standard thing when Marko joined the band.
This is my favourite Nightwish song of all time.The studio version was a bit better, but this is a really difficult song. The "Join my soul, the hunter in the sky" gets me always.

December 29, 2000. Tampere Finland. Tulikamara club. I can't find the height of Tapio Wilska but he looks taller than Tuomas keyboards who is 6'5 so he seems a giant. I know the name. Did not know to match the name with that face. If you look up the Crewish 2nd album called of course Twice, lol... Dark Chest of Wonders was from NW album Once and Tapion and Wilska sang duet on it. They both contributed their vocals on behalf of crewish during the pandemic. To help them out as they don't get paid to sit home. Roadies need to be on the road as the name implies. Doing some death metal growling is not Marco's forte so calling in an old friend wise indeed. That is Sami on bass the 1st one before Marco. Jukka on drums. 97 -14. 14- present manager. Of course Emmpu lead guitar, Tuomas composer/keyboards and Tarja were the founders of Nightwish in 96. Most of the band ranging from 24 -22 years old. Tapio is +6/7 years on them. 2000 means they had released Angels fall first 1997, Ocean born 1998, Wishmaster 2000 by this point. # babywish. Tapio is a Finnish legend in his own right now. The voice of death! 😅💀

Yes she has her place in Nightwish's history from the beginning ! She sings good in most songs ! But in my opinion Floor is now the Best & Can sing all the songs great ! Both girls are brilliant in their own individual ways ! We not here to Say who is better & who is the real Queen ! None of them is Royalty ! They are both professional & Both have their fans ! In my opinion, this is the way Nightwish should have gone. After Oceanborn their songs are too generic, light and mainstream in IMO. It would have been so nice, if they had male singer doing growls with female clean vocals and the style been more heavy.
I wish they would spice things a bit on the next album. This save the planet technology is le bad stuff doesn't fit the band at all and I'm saying this as someone who's been a fan since 2003. The magic seems to be gone and instead of the ethereal and magic sound you got overproduced modern sound bore. I love all their albums including the last one even tho I think it's their weakest but man I miss the old sound. Their music used to make me feel like a child without a worry in the world. Now it makes me feel like a 9 to 5 worker.

The Pharaoh Sails to Orios is the best Nigthwish song I have ever heard. And it is from the album Oceanborn , the only Nightwish album I have. After that their style has changed to something quite different, the change has not been to better direction at all.
Tapio was vocalist of Nattvindens Gråt (formed in 1994) together with Sami Vänska (bass) and Tuomas on keyboards who later formed Nightwish. He also helped them to get their record deal with Spinefarm records.
