insane production value as per usual, it amazes me your stuff doesnt have more views by a factor of a thousand

I wonder if changing the aspect ratio between the size of the drum and opening will allow the vortex cannon to work more effectively at lower pressures... it would also be interesting to see the effect at slightly greater than atmospheric pressures too

its really interesting how the vapor immediately fills the chamber. i dont know why, but i wasnt expecting that.

I have never wondered if I could but now I need to know lol

some high voltage sparks would be interesting to see how the resistance increases with an increasing vacuum + smoke ofc :) or just go all the way and make an ion drive, no air means it shouldn't corrode

This is awesome, would love to see how it behaves at >1atm to compare, pressure chambers would surely be harder to film though

Yes, I was just thinking that. Start increasing pressure to 2x, 10x, 100x atmospheric to see how the increasing momentum of smoke rings behave. Whole different set up, chamber, etc. New challenges for filming.

at 4:00 i do see some effect of the membrane, are those just not vortices?

I think this may be as a result of the cannon wobbling on the stand rather than an effect of the membrane - but I could be wrong!

@@paulmh makes sense... thanks for a fascinating video, as always =)

isnt the VACUUM gone when you put any particle inside?

true vacuum is unachievable, "vacuum" is a continuum which is why we have terms like "rough vacuum", "high vacuum", and "hard vacuum" to disambiguate.

How to produce smoke and vacuum?

  • @killpidone

I think to get a ring, you wouldn't need a membrane to bop but instead a camera aperture like gate that you could quickly open and shut
