  • This is one of my favourite pieces as of late. My favourite part is that she knows what card is where, without even knowing how she does!
    Intuition is a funny thing.

Nicely performed mate - from the repertoire of my Hero. I just don't get how Mentalists these days overlook Chan Canasta's brilliance. The guy became a TV superstar here in the UK; before making a worldwide reputation with 2 packs of cards and borrowed books. Everything was about the presentation with Chan. He put the authenticity into Mentalism by taking chances and getting things wrong - it made it REAL. Mentalists these days just haven't got the iron bollocks to follow his lead. Everything has to be 100% accurate - which to my way of thinking, isn't just the 'too perfect theory' BUT is also patronising; particularly to an intelligent audience. If someone is a Magician then fine; but as a professional Mentalist, you have to make it real. Let me give an example. I performed this very effect myself, countless times, only a few weeks ago whilst table-hopping at a party. I use Chan's suit order (CDHS) and for some reason (just possibly in auto-pilot mode), I miscalled the value of the first card at one table. Do you know the response? "Yes........but you still got the suit correct". Even at my age, after many years, I learnt a valuable lesson.

Absolutely! I love Chan's work. He was incredible. And I'm with you on the idea of taking chances. Another of my heroes, Docc Hilford, always says a Mentalist should be 85% right. Thanks for the lovely comment! I appreciate it.
