    “Thank you” to the person who made Qor possible for you. Living in the States, this was the first professional set I purchased; a serious watercolor class I took used the 6 color set (not High Chroma, which is on my wish list) and I fell in love with them. They rewet easily, don’t crack when dry, and are very transparent. Truly, a little will go a long way. Their glazing ability is superb. Just remember to use water ;-). I think I paid less than $100US on sale at Jerry’s a few years ago and their current price is $84. Sad to hear they’re very expensive outside of the US. But then again watercolor made outside the US is very expensive here. Transparent Pyrrole Orange is an incredible color. I’m beginning to like white. Adding a touch to another color can provide a singular depth for highlights or background color that’s a cross between watercolor and gouache. Yes, adding neutral tint instead of black is a bonus. So I felt I should give white a try and I’m enjoying it. Thanks for this video! (And as someone challenged with dexterity I agree with you about their tube caps. Maybe they’ll change them in future. Also, traditional swatching with shaded square shapes is challenging and ultimately disappointing so I’ve been doing circular or oval shapes more and more. Much easier and so satisfying.) Happy Holidays 🌺

    For me personally, QoR is most fun wet on wet.... The dispersion is incredible and the paint jumps across the page wherever water is on the paper. Oto thank you for all your lovely videos. If you get time, here's an idea of a fun video: dispersion of all these QoR paints. I have the highchroma set only and it's gorgeous. It would be nice to see how all the other QoR paints behave wet on wet too.

    Appreciate your detailed information and opinions. Reminds us that there may be more to consider than just the fact that we are going to be purchasing a tube of watercolor. You mentioning "little" details like cap size and how the paint came out of the tube helps open the eyes of a newcomer like me. All those nuggets of info are helpful and interesting. 🙂

    I think if I had seen this set a couple of months ago, when I first started purchasing DS paints, I would have just purchased this set. The pigment load looks excellent and here in the US, it is a better value for the colors you get. Just beautiful.

    QOR are my main watercolours (because vegan and I can get them in this country!) and I do really like them htough they are not without their quirks. I really need to add that Dioxazine Purple to my collection though. It is the PERFECT singe pigment purple. I love using purple and green as a mix for grey and neutrals but finding a good single pigment green and purple isn't as easy as I'd think!

    Such beautiful colors! Sadly QoR isn't available where I live. Actually, since you have lots of paints and brands I'd be very interested to see a video where you suggest some paint alternatives to the JEAN HAINES Daniel Smith Master Paint Set. The set isn't available in my country in SE Asia but the colours seem interesting to work with. Holbein, Shinhan, Kusakabe, Sennelier, and W&N are more available around this area. The western countries like USA and Europe seem to have very cool sets that aren't imported in the east so I think paint alternatives would make for great content. Similar to how you've suggested various colors from different brands for your colour wheel palette. :)

    Lawrence art supply have Qor paint at a good price for the set £27-£23 and it well worth it. Daniel Smith paints are just as expensive via Cass Art but the difference is you can buy colours as separate tubes which can be helpful to test out before investing in a full set. The larger Qor paints are £10+ for the larger tubes but so are Daniel smiths larger tube and stick paints. Always shop around for Watercolor sets and you will find a deal.
    Sennniel paint sets are also expensive but I shopped around on amazon and found a pan set for under £27.

    What a gorgeous set of swatches, Oto! I think that at some point I will end up splurging on the high chroma set, but I tbh I think I might be done buying full sets, at least the big ones. I think I prefer to get myself a single tube here and there instead.

      All qor paint push into other brands paints. Like you pant a flower petal with any brand you have and drop a tiny qor white into the wet petal. It is incredible, automatically makes you a toned flower. Same with leafs, or trees. Use base color some other brand and put yellow, red etc qor highlight into the wet paint, voila. Be careful use tiny amount of qor paint. It overpowers all other paints.

    I have to point something out...the price issue may be a European thing. I don’t know what QoR costs in Europe or Daniel Smith, but I know DS paints are more expensive than QoR per ml in the US. You can get the QoR set of 24 5ml tubes for approx. $84.00 US, which breaks down to roughly $4.00 per 5ml tube (plus tax and shipping). The list price of $120.00 US (and if you are paying full retail...yeah, don’t do that) breaks down to approx. $5.00 US per 5 ml tube. Daniel Smith? Their six tube mixing essentials plus their six tube Primatek set is going to run around $70.00 - 75.00 US - or roughly $5.83 - 6.25 US per 5 ml tube without much of the versatility. Full list for those two sets? $115.96 ($53.48 essentials plus $62.48 primatek) for 1/2 the number of 5 ml tubes...which bumps that price up to...$9.66 per 5 ml tube. Their “artists” series sets aren’t a better deal either. The Jean Haines 10 5 ml master set? About $70 US - $7.00 per 5 ml tube (full list is worse at more than $10.00 US per tube). The Alvaro Castagnet Master 10 5ml tube set (which is currently available from one major art supply store in the US with a free 238 dot card) runs about $67 US or $6.70 per tube (to be fair if you subtract the ~ $22 for the dot card...you end up with $4.50 per tube so pretty reasonable and the colors are flexible for mixing). Full list? $10.20 US per tube. Daniel Smith paints are NOT less expensive. They are significantly MORE expensive. And that is in the US. From two US companies (Daniel Smith on the West Coast, QoR produced by Golden on the East Coast) to US residents.
    To give you some comparison? I can go two miles down the road to my local big box store and buy a tube of Winsor and Newton Cotman WC paint (student grade paint, not professional grade) for $5.50 per tube (including taxes). Their Daniel Smith series 1 paints in 5ml tubes? Almost $11.00 each ($9.99 plus state and local sales tax). That’s Series 1! Those are full retail prices (I attempt to never pay full retail...yeah, I never pay that unless desperate) so, they are admittedly high. The box store doesn’t carry QoR...but even at full list...the QoR paints are less expensive per tube than student grade paints! And about 1/2 the price of DS 5 ml tubes. 24 5ml tubes of DS at full retail? About $260.00 US. And that’s if they are all Series 1. The DS equivalents to that QoR set? Aren’t all Series 1.
    Yes, the price for 24 5 ml tubes of QoR is high. The cost for 24 5 ml tubes from Daniel Smith is significantly higher.

    • @everartokelli
      @everartokelli 5 лет назад +1

      While I have to admit that the Qor watercolor sets have happily come down significantly in price, to be fair, for the most part Daniel Smith is still less than Qor when purchased by the tube. Qor single tubes are 11ml and are priced similarly to DS 15ml single tubes. DS doesn't have a 24 tube set so doesn't compare exactly.
      The best deal for Daniel Smith watercolors is to find the new $17-$20 sets on eBay (or sometimes Amazon) which include either the six 5ml tubes of the split primaries or Primateks along with bottles of the DS watercolor ground (www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=daniel+smith+watercolor+set), or the Alvaro Castegnet sets of ten 5ml tubes for $44 on Amazon (www.amazon.com/DANIEL-SMITH-285610016-Castagnet-Watercolor/dp/B0198GSFRQ/) which is comparable to the economical $24 sets of six 5ml sets of Qor on Amazon. I think it's simplistic to say one brand is always less than another as the market is ever changing.

    • @dianethoroughman9541
      @dianethoroughman9541 5 лет назад +2

      The DS 15ml is cheaper in amount per ml than the 5ml paint tube set.

    • @angelairidescenceartglass6289
      @angelairidescenceartglass6289 5 лет назад +2

      everart okelli yep, it is...the prices I quoted were admittedly high and based on a single art supply web site as well as the MSRP list price. You can find the DS paints for less. Same with the QoR. My point was that the review unequivocally states that DS is less expensive than the reviewed QoR 5ml set and a better value. There is no direct equivalent, but to try and get equivalent DS 5ml tubes is generally going to be more expensive (the time to hunt the best deals on them and multiple trips and/or shipping costs vs a “one stop” purchase adds on to the cost). I like DS paints. Bought the 5ml essentials set with the small ground. Have far more PrimaTeks than I probably need. And it’s one of the few brands where I actively choose convenience mixtures over single pigment paints because their mixtures tend to be lovely. But am under no illusion that DS is “less expensive”. It is actually on the higher end of artist quality watercolor paint. Especially at full list price.

    • @everartokelli
      @everartokelli 5 лет назад +1

      @Angela IridescenceArtGlass Exactly right, was just giving some current deals for DS. I know I have the Qor 6 tube high chroma set in my cart for the best price or I when decide I just "need" them :) I'd say most of the artist quality paints are fairly close in price overall, with WN & Schmincke being a little higher where I am and M Graham & Sennelier on the lower side, but again depending on where you are--and smart shoppers can usually find deals. Appreciate the info!

    • @YourMajesty143
      @YourMajesty143 4 года назад

      Daniel Smith Watercolor Sticks are all equally $8.70 (regardless of Series). One stick is equivalent to 3 full pans. 1 full pan is equivalent to 3 or 4 pours dried down (so almost a full tube)! The sticks are the cheapest artist grade paint out there. It's too bad you can only get them in 51 colors -- but it's a cheap way of trying out some of their high end primateks without breaking the bank. And no, there aren't any fillers. In fact, there's even less fillers in the sticks than the tubes, so it can be argued that you get way more product out of that medium than in any other format.

    Respectfully disagree on one point: I own and use many brands of wonderful watercolors. So far, in my experience, Qor stands head and shoulders above other similarly well regarded and priced brands. Not sure if at the time of this video if you had the chance to do more than swatch them?? In my experience, it is when you make actual paintings with them all that you can really see the difference. I tend to shuffle my professional paint brands every day ( I paint every day) so that they all get used and to keep me on my toes. I’ve noticed that I look forward to the Qor days and also the carandache watercolor stick days the most. The end results are always a revelation. That being said, other brands such as Schmincke, Sennelier, Daniel Smith, etc., are nothing to sneeze at. But perhaps it is just coincidence that it is with the Qor paints that I’ve had the most exciting breakthroughs? That being said, thank you for your lovely videos and for taking the time to show us these beautiful paints.
