What do you guys think the McCallister did for living? I go first, I think the mom was the boss lady she defiantly wore the pants in the relationship, I would say the mom was an C-suit executive of Kraft Heinz Company in Chicago and the dad was a commodities trader at Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME)

The interior of the house in the movie was a movie set. They never filmed inside the house. They just used the outside of the house for the movie. There is a documentary out about this, it’s really good

@6:44 that’s how a lot of houses in the Midwest are designed. A lot of them have a covered wrap around porch that goes around to the garage. Fancier houses will have the corner of the porch rounded out like a gazebo type shape. Maybe it’s just what I’m used to but I love that style of house & having a large covered porch to sit on during storms or at night time. I also like the bigger fancier farm style (northern plantation style w/o the negative connotations) with second & third story covered balconies/loggias with wide views of the land whether it’s farmland or a lake or forest.

Arvin, I agree. The Home Alone house is more early Federal than Georgian. I like the symmetry, and the brick facade gives it that warm, cozy, secure feeling. The interiors are not for me. I like a nice open floor plan. I have seen some of these Federals opened up after a remodel and they look better. And, I really like how you used 6889 Dume Dr for the view scene. IMHO, this property has a lot of nice architectural elements. I really like how they lined the pool up with that valley view out to the ocean. Excellent video! Thank you!!

I really like what you have to say about how important it is to consider the golden ration in the proportions and dynamics of the architecture and design of a house! However, I personally don't find this house very interesting. Lacks a bit of originality, it's a bit anonymous, something one would see in a posh Washington DC neighborhood, like Georgetown or something.😴
I personally am more interested in modern design, like those futuristic mansions on cliffs in LA. 😊

That’s funny in California we have a lot of modern so i gravitate towards traditional

Totally understand. I think modern is more fun because it allows for more creative crazy ideas, granted they may not hold the test of time and what looks cool today may look passe' in the future. My ideal home would be modern on a cliff overlooking the city. Paul Mclean perhaps? But not the 20000 square foot museum size things.@@ArvinHaddadOfficial

AAAH, so THATS your lego house? Now I see it :)
The house "style/architecture" is extremely individual, not all like it. What made it so nice was the "family" theme. Kids watching the movie think maaan I want a family/home like this and grownups watching it think maaan I always wanted my childhood to be like this, it even has a tree house and who doesnt want or wanted their own cozy treehouse?
Take the attic, how many real life attics are kids hideout dens with a bed in them?
The finishes are as said, very individual taste. There is a reason all new mansions sell looking like bleach white empty boring canvasses on the inside.
The exteriors too are very specific. Imagine you live in the typical UK street home, you are so fed up by looking at red bricks that this detail alone would scare you away.
The home-alone facade to me personally scream Oh Oh, I look at the facade and wonder, is the inside as "old" to with gramps wallpapers and dusty finishings from the 40ies?
The best would be modern somewhat minimalistic finishings internally but thats just me. Tastes are like asses, everyones got one.
The house is "flat", no porches, no large balconies to open up and sit on when its warm outside, just a flat, abrupt border between facade and street or tiny lawn.
Compare to the "ibiza breeze" house in zagaleta, what a mansion and also what a blunder having it end so abruptly with the lawn.
I agree on your take on the internal design, there is no flow nor views, just room to room compartmentalization.
Owning such a home would call for a structural engineer lookover and possible internal walls being knocked out for that grand center main "room/space" that flows towards a kitchen and other areas.
Many of my friends absolutely love this kind of home-alone house style, I dont, Im more the modern non-white-box type where cozy nooks and things are happening everywhere and internal finishes are all textures and play with white and dark earthy stone.
Cool video though, I like how you researched all this and memories of the movie surfaced and I love the architect lesson in this video! Very well done!
The best vids are where you actually walk away afterwards with increased levels of knowledge!

My take on this particular house was the lack of amenities such as saunas, ergo: my thought was is there room for development on the property should the owner want to install a standalone gym with saunas in a corner AND have those addons also work as part of a firewall.
Relating for homes in Malibu my foremost question is always, is there room to build a firewall around the property and is it touching a wide road on one side that also acts as a firewall.
Good job on this vid man!
