    Hey. So I rarely leave comments but I just need to tell you that you've helped me :D and I couldn't be more grateful. I've loved singing my entire life, but I always sang to myself so I never got why it didn't sound as good when I recorded it. After spending about a week in bed being sick and binge-watching all your videos I have learned and improved so much! And I didn't even know! I was playing the guitar earlier and suddenly I just started applying everything I remembered you saying to other people, to my voice. More air, lower notes with less effort, volume adjusting, knowing when to use chest/head voice.. I also became aware that I felt like I had to sing the words with force so they'd sound emotional. I then realised my voice is 10 times better using a lot of air with it. I didn't even know I was doing anything wrong, so I want to thank you so much for opening my eyes. I can't wait to see if there are more ways I can approve, and I'll keep watching you for sure. You seem like a legit great person so keep up the awesome work :)

  • @marisaariellenelson7814
    @marisaariellenelson7814 4 года назад +2

    She definitely sounded better in the second video. But she looked more nervous in her movement and stage presence. I found that interesting. Tristan is right that she seems to try too much. That’s easy to do for a lot of singers, I’m guilty of it myself (I’m a professional singer/dancer) but if your ear is good and you can work on your own sound by listening to recordings of yourself you can improve a lot! I think Gabbi’s musical ear might not be so strong and she needs a coach to point out her faults in order to improve.

    yesss I agree, floating on top of notes sounds better than pushing to try and reach them and most of the time not actually reaching them. Maybe because she's been singing it that way for so long, she's got used to the sound, so changing it probably sounded weird to her at first. Might be why she was a tad reluctant! Buuuuut the difference between the two performances was so noticeable and she's made such an improvement so yasss

    I’m classically trained, and everything you have said that I’ve seen is on point. There are even professional vocalists that don’t understand how to sing in their head voice, or flip between. When you “come up under the notes” as you’ve said, there is much more danger of falling flat.

    • @alecfa3770
      @alecfa3770 6 лет назад +7

      but how do you flip between them??? do u know or know of a vid that helps with figuring out how to learn. All i understand is that it takes practice but i can't even try to do it without stopping my air totally to switch the vocal chords into the right spot. aggggh tristan needs to do a vid on this!!!

    • @Investigativebean
      @Investigativebean 6 лет назад +1

      Its called “head voice,” because it resonates more in your head than in your throat. Like Tristan says in this video, it’s a little more nasal. So you would feel it resonate more in your sinuses than in your chest if that makes any sense lol. If you learn the basics like breathing, and palate control, it’s much easier to feel things out.

    • @alecfa3770
      @alecfa3770 6 лет назад

      as a guy i didn't really understand what that meant until i started imitating random noises (around two years ago) and was able push out a higher pitch than i was used to, and from there i realized i could sing in that position(idk what to call that position of the vocal chords other than head voice/falsetto) and began messing around with it and gained more control. in my normal voice i can go from a G2 to a D4 before i have to really strain to go a maximum of 1-2 half steps higher(yes ik straining's bad so i make sure not to overdo it). Now my head voice starts at a comfortable pitch at D4(anything lower gets really quiet) to an A5 with me still able to somewhat pronounce syllables bcs im a guy and annunciating the words with so limited air flow is nearly impossible.
      now, i did meet with my school's choir teacher and that went nowhere when asking how to switch from chest to head voice... he kept making me to upward scales and then would get angry that i was straining and not switching. i guess i need a more visual approach bcs for me where the ranges of my two voices(is that the right term???) meet is around a D4 and in the top of my vocal chords in my chest voice and then to the bottom of my vocal chords in my head voice. it's like having to switch from your lowest to your highest notes in your normal chest voice without any hesitation and i just cant do it!!!
      if u read all of that i applaud u. if u have any advice or resources plz share

      Angel Bebe I think the difference though is that Courtney Love, Amy Winehouse and Janis Joplin have utterly tragic lives to back up the genuine, raw, emotion in their music. Gabbie...does not. "I had a boyfriend and he broke up with me" doesn't make for gut wrenching, era defining music. Janis and Amy were dead by the time they were Gabbie's age and Courtney was a widow. It take more than a gravelly voice to sound "raw and emotional".

    • @suitsfan4495
      @suitsfan4495 6 лет назад +10

      I get triggered when I hear this because like 3+ months ago, I actually, literally put this in my notes to tell Gabbie, via email/message/DM - that the male vocals she is emulating are detracting from her performance and full potential, and to orient her training and singing towards female vocalists and to shift her mindset that way as well.
      The range and timbre of the performance were going to be more relevant and help progress her vocal artistry, power, and control more. HAYLEY WILLIAMS FROM PARAMORE WAS LITERALLY ONE OF MY REFERENCE VOCALS for Gabbie to study, practice with and emulate - and not just one of my vocals, but THE TOP F*CKING ONE.
      And I never sent the damn email, for a variety of reasons, but mainly because I've been busy. A lot of stuff has piled into my lap and I've been utterly distracted. And so of course now I'm kicking myself wishing that I had emailed this to her. Damn it. Wow, just typing this has actually made me feel a lot better. Sigh. Breathe. Remain calm. *She says to herself*. But it's SO HARD for me to remain calm because it's GABBIE and I have LITERALLY NO CHILL when it comes to Gabbie. And also I just want the BEST for her.

It’s almost like she’s desperate (but not in a bad way if that makes sense) she’s just trying to accomplish her goals, but it’s hard cause 1. People don’t like he, and 2. She’s pushing her weaknesses rather than her strengths. Like at 2:40 she sounded beautiful, yet she keeps trying to force a Christina Aguilera type yell in her voice (which isn’t for her softer much better suits her).

      A good thing to apply in harmonizing is to try and sing with a partner that you’re very familiar with to start. Then ask them to start singing the song, then sing with them and slowly adjust so it’s in harmony. It can be hard at first, and I understand that, and it takes time. I suggest using “Sad Song” as it’s bridge uses a lot of harmonizing. In harmonizing it also helps to sing falsetto at first and move downwards to your chest. If someone is singing alto then usually you would sing soprano. I hope this helps! 😊

      Also if you play a chord on the piano (typically three notes at once) for example C E & G you’ll notice that E and G are the harmony sounds of C (or vice versa, I know that sounds a little complicated but I highly recommend playing chords on the piano so that you know how harmonies work. Good luck!
