I really like your stance on vocal coaching--keep things simple, its not an exam!
i forgot to mention the part about how i told her to sing with maximum resonance sending the sound out of her third chakra using only the external support muscles while keeping har larynx neutral and her soft palate raised

I have a feeling these people are changing their own mistakes and can’t hear the difference, can’t even tell that it sounds good or they’re doing it wrong lol. That’s why they’re saying your technique doesn’t work. I’m pretty critical when I’m skeptical but I’m not one bit skeptic when listening to you. Keep going you’re the best ✌🏻♥️

Hey. So I rarely leave comments but I just need to tell you that you've helped me :D and I couldn't be more grateful. I've loved singing my entire life, but I always sang to myself so I never got why it didn't sound as good when I recorded it. After spending about a week in bed being sick and binge-watching all your videos I have learned and improved so much! And I didn't even know! I was playing the guitar earlier and suddenly I just started applying everything I remembered you saying to other people, to my voice. More air, lower notes with less effort, volume adjusting, knowing when to use chest/head voice.. I also became aware that I felt like I had to sing the words with force so they'd sound emotional. I then realised my voice is 10 times better using a lot of air with it. I didn't even know I was doing anything wrong, so I want to thank you so much for opening my eyes. I can't wait to see if there are more ways I can approve, and I'll keep watching you for sure. You seem like a legit great person so keep up the awesome work :)
She definitely sounded better in the second video. But she looked more nervous in her movement and stage presence. I found that interesting. Tristan is right that she seems to try too much. That’s easy to do for a lot of singers, I’m guilty of it myself (I’m a professional singer/dancer) but if your ear is good and you can work on your own sound by listening to recordings of yourself you can improve a lot! I think Gabbi’s musical ear might not be so strong and she needs a coach to point out her faults in order to improve.
Tristan: You don't have to put that in the video..uhh..its just for you..
Aloona: boi nope😂😂😂
Tristan you are so nice

I like the version you suggested---the light, floaty sound---rather than Gabby's more aggressive version.
I agree. Maybe she can go for a more intense sound like she wants later -- once she's gotten more control of her voice and can build to it. But right now, the calm and relaxed version sounds SO much better!

yesss I agree, floating on top of notes sounds better than pushing to try and reach them and most of the time not actually reaching them. Maybe because she's been singing it that way for so long, she's got used to the sound, so changing it probably sounded weird to her at first. Might be why she was a tad reluctant! I’m classically trained, and everything you have said that I’ve seen is on point. There are even professional vocalists that don’t understand how to sing in their head voice, or flip between. When you “come up under the notes” as you’ve said, there is much more danger of falling flat.
but how do you flip between them??? do u know or know of a vid that helps with figuring out how to learn. All i understand is that it takes practice but i can't even try to do it without stopping my air totally to switch the vocal chords into the right spot. aggggh tristan needs to do a vid on this!!!
Its called “head voice,” because it resonates more in your head than in your throat. Like Tristan says in this video, it’s a little more nasal. So you would feel it resonate more in your sinuses than in your chest if that makes any sense lol. If you learn the basics like breathing, and palate control, it’s much easier to feel things out.
as a guy i didn't really understand what that meant until i started imitating random noises (around two years ago) and was able push out a higher pitch than i was used to, and from there i realized i could sing in that position(idk what to call that position of the vocal chords other than head voice/falsetto) and began messing around with it and gained more control. in my normal voice i can go from a G2 to a D4 before i have to really strain to go a maximum of 1-2 half steps higher(yes ik straining's bad so i make sure not to overdo it). Now my head voice starts at a comfortable pitch at D4(anything lower gets really quiet) to an A5 with me still able to somewhat pronounce syllables bcs im a guy and annunciating the words with so limited air flow is nearly impossible.
now, i did meet with my school's choir teacher and that went nowhere when asking how to switch from chest to head voice... he kept making me to upward scales and then would get angry that i was straining and not switching. i guess i need a more visual approach bcs for me where the ranges of my two voices(is that the right term???) meet is around a D4 and in the top of my vocal chords in my chest voice and then to the bottom of my vocal chords in my head voice. it's like having to switch from your lowest to your highest notes in your normal chest voice without any hesitation and i just cant do it!!!
if u read all of that i applaud u. if u have any advice or resources plz share
I just cant understand why do people bother about voice range.. Like who fucking cares if u are one octave less if it sound so freaking good.., the most important thing at first is to understand how to sing in tonality....
idk if that was really about range as much as it was about where my two voices meet. it feels like such a fine line to know where to switch for me to ever learn to do. i guess i didn't need my whole life story there tho
Doesn’t work? I got so much better by just your videos? So can someone prove me wrong that it doesn’t work? Cause hell yea it does work. Glad to be a TriSTAN jo.
That open mic performance gave me GOOSE BUMPS
Sara Amavisca same! She sounds much better in my opinion :)
@@mirandalorincz7530 I agree!
She can build that power and edge from a healthy starting place now, though. Pushing can be a good style you know what you’re doing. Hayley Williams was great advice. Demi Lovato belts her face off even more. Might be easier for Gabbie to hear the things she’d like to learn.

her voice was so shaky -

Yes, first performance, stage stress, in front of tons of people you don't know and not having good vocal training makes that happen.
She has improved SO MUCH! She has such a great voice, but this is just taking her to the level she wants to be on. I can't wait to see her grow as a musician.

gabbie hanna's voice makes me cringe alot, its pretty rough at the start, but this video was super helpful
I agree. We cant deny that she's a good singer when she's doing what she should be doing and not pushing it. But even when she does sound good I just don't like her voice. But she doesn't deserve the shit she gets for it when she does sound good. It's a voice either you like her or you don't.
Estora Marshall some people like rough voices. Janis Joplin has an extremely rough voice and she was brilliant and loved. Amy Winehouse, Courtney love etc etc etc some people appreciate raw emotional voices.
Estora Marshall that first video of her singing is absolutely terrible. Just my opinion. Second is way better but still eh
Shelbie okay, Whitney Houston.
Angel Bebe I think the difference though is that Courtney Love, Amy Winehouse and Janis Joplin have utterly tragic lives to back up the genuine, raw, emotion in their music. Gabbie...does not. "I had a boyfriend and he broke up with me" doesn't make for gut wrenching, era defining music. Janis and Amy were dead by the time they were Gabbie's age and Courtney was a widow. It take more than a gravelly voice to sound "raw and emotional".
Now I realized how Tristan's statement that gabbie listening to male singers effects her and has her singing like a male singer it was proved in Gabbie's 1st performance with her deep voice and tone that sounds like alternative punk rock that sounds like the beginning of panic at the disco which she listens to the most 😂 and she definitely sounds better now tristan don't worry 💕💕
I get triggered when I hear this because like 3+ months ago, I actually, literally put this in my notes to tell Gabbie, via email/message/DM - that the male vocals she is emulating are detracting from her performance and full potential, and to orient her training and singing towards female vocalists and to shift her mindset that way as well.
The range and timbre of the performance were going to be more relevant and help progress her vocal artistry, power, and control more. HAYLEY WILLIAMS FROM PARAMORE WAS LITERALLY ONE OF MY REFERENCE VOCALS for Gabbie to study, practice with and emulate - and not just one of my vocals, but THE TOP F*CKING ONE.
And I never sent the damn email, for a variety of reasons, but mainly because I've been busy. A lot of stuff has piled into my lap and I've been utterly distracted. And so of course now I'm kicking myself wishing that I had emailed this to her. Damn it. Wow, just typing this has actually made me feel a lot better. Sigh. Breathe. Remain calm. *She says to herself*. But it's SO HARD for me to remain calm because it's GABBIE and I have LITERALLY NO CHILL when it comes to Gabbie. And also I just want the BEST for her.
Huh. That’s probably my problem too
I love your videos and all you do but can you maybe make an q&a one day? Cause who are you and how old are you and why are you in my country 🇩🇪 and what do you like and don't like and it would be cool do get to know you better 😊❤

Those super close classical vocal teachers brain washed too many people don't realize that Tristan's ideas actually cause improvement in people's voices because they think only one way on vocal technique and they get jealous of Tristan and his success in vocal transformations and his RUclips so they try to cause tea with him.

I mean... super classical is the pinnacle of healthy vocalizations and it is proven by what they can do with their voices as opposed to pop techniques... but go off, I guess. Haha
@@celifacejones quite a few famous classical vocalists have had vocal problems and it's a myth that classical singing is healthier. What's healthy is effortless singing and that's exactly what's Tristan is teaching instead of all that "raise your soft palate, put the sound in your legs and ascend" bullshit that proper classical vocal coaches don't practice either.

So What I agree
She comes off as a try-hard cause people are constantly trying to tear her down. It’s almost like she’s desperate (but not in a bad way if that makes sense) she’s just trying to accomplish her goals, but it’s hard cause 1. People don’t like he, and 2. She’s pushing her weaknesses rather than her strengths. Like at 2:40 she sounded beautiful, yet she keeps trying to force a Christina Aguilera type yell in her voice (which isn’t for her softer much better suits her).
So What theres a difference between trying hard for your dream and trying hard to act like what ur not .
@So What I think her issue is she needs to work on her own personal self confidence. She let's people's comments get to her but instead of working on her own resiliency and sense of self or removing herself from situations where she is open for criticism (making music, youtube, etc.) she just blames everyone else for how she feels. She needs to toughen up, find a way to deal with online criticism, or get a different job where she won't have to deal with that stuff.
I’ve been watching Gabbie for a looooooOOOng time. She’s advanced so much in so many ways, one being a musician. She was already a good one, but now that you’ve helped her, I think she knows how to control her voice better and it sounds so much lighter and it just gives me the chILLLSS
I'm going to school to become a vocal coach, and holy crap this really gave me the push I needed to get through this semester lol. Such an incredible transformation! Makes my heart soar!!! You can seriously hear a HUGE improvement in her voice. It's definitely more pleasing to the ear, and she was often below the notes in her 'before'. In her after she was hitting the notes right on with such ease!
awwww!! so sweet
I wanna learn how to harmonize. now I’m not good at singing but I’ve listened to a lot of your tips on different voices and I’ve tried to apply it and sometimes it works and sometimes it don’t but my mom can singing like really good naturally but she’s not a good teacher lol and she can harmonize by ear so idk how educated you are on harmonizing but if you could explain harmonizing I would love to know!
Brannon Knight harmonies are all about practise! Joining a choir is the best thing you can do to learn harmonies!
try to practice with instruments as well
A good thing to apply in harmonizing is to try and sing with a partner that you’re very familiar with to start. Then ask them to start singing the song, then sing with them and slowly adjust so it’s in harmony. It can be hard at first, and I understand that, and it takes time. I suggest using “Sad Song” as it’s bridge uses a lot of harmonizing. In harmonizing it also helps to sing falsetto at first and move downwards to your chest. If someone is singing alto then usually you would sing soprano. I hope this helps! 😊
Also if you play a chord on the piano (typically three notes at once) for example C E & G you’ll notice that E and G are the harmony sounds of C (or vice versa, I know that sounds a little complicated but I highly recommend playing chords on the piano so that you know how harmonies work. Good luck!
Just try to learn the basic voices(soprano, alto, tenor, bass) in a certain song you like. Then practice singing one of the voices together with an accompaniment like a piano or keyboard.
Look at you! With both gabbie and James you did simple and effective changes! #boomboompow #whatavcoach
She's a good singer and there's still so much room for improvement and her voice has alot of potential. I think she should work on her vibrato because her vibrato is kind of shaky i think it would be much better if she can add more vibrato into some of her high notes cause it would add more "color" into her voice.
I love how Gabbie’s voice transformed. I have a technical ear and my dads a music producer so he points stuff out to me all the time and while I think Gabbie has an amazing voice, she would push and be aggressive on notes that didn’t need it and would be loud on notes that didn’t need it either. I love what you taught her, it’s EXACTLY what I was thinking on how she could improve and she really has. I think that you are making her become ten times better and reach her potential that I always knew she could do. Gabbie is so talented and has such a unique beautiful voice I cant wait to see what she does next!
Scarlet Dancer same here. My dad has a recording studio and has a musical ear for notes and pitch and taught me to understand and find them at a young age. (4-6) I agree that Gabbie has a great voice. She’s getting a lot better as she understands where she should and shouldn’t push on notes, and I’m glad Tristan did a video on her.
Just gonna throw out there that I had vocal training for a decade and Tristan’s tips have significantly improved my mixing/midrange
Thanks, Tristan!!
