    some people in the comments are being a bit much, to me and also commenting unkindly or insulting remarks to others for sharing criticism or their own ideas of what was hard to understand, I do try to humour different opinions, but its not really worth the time or energy with volatility. I don't want to feel like I encourage that, since I like reading my comments and everywhere else seems to be pretty respectful to each other, so I think I will ignore/remove comments that are just blatant insults, theres plenty of places to do that but not in the few spaces I have

      to be entirely fair, you were kind of abrasive/ignorant/wrong on certain facts a couple of times in this video, but thats obviously not grounds to harass you. Sorry to hear that you have to deal with that. And you can obviously have differing opinions, but being dismissive of or wrong about something that people are very passionate about will annoy people and pushback is to be expected.

      @datzfatz2368 feel free to tell me I don't mind . I think maybe the reason is that on stream the context has been there that I've been berated multiple times and been condescending when I don't know something like it was "obvious" and It isn't. People just expect you to have years of knowledge and it can feel unacknowledged that people must not remember being new or like to use the opportunity to feel smarter.
      They say they love nuance but look at everything so black and white when people criticize the game..and don't take the time to look into my content or multiple days streaming it..at least I'm making the effort to try to understand and voice my opinions without going out of my way to be directly mean to someone else .
      Anyways. Am learning . Am not incapable of thinking I'm wrong . I am still playing the game. And I have also voiced that many many times that it's my first time playing the game and any from fromsoft.
      But again. I think i didn't realize how my words were going to sound different outside of the context of the live stream and current difficulties I was facing..that people in chat saw in real time that day..and that week. I don't normally talk a ton about games I'm currently playing in a deep context so I think I was "right" in the room I was in and wrong in the context that on yt it could be perceived without that context that I believed everything was "fact" and not "what I'm experiencing right now "

    I think one thing that gets overlooked about the Souls series is that there's an entire big community of people creating content, wikis, and videos to try to HELP people clear the games and understand the lore. The in game messages, bloodstains, summoning, and co-op are all designed to encourage "jolly cooperation" between players.
    I think as a streamer its harder to notice that, because you are so laser focused on your own stream/content, and you've got backseaters trying to help you (but they don't really help).
    That cooperative aspects of the Souls community isn't an accident, its something FromSoft deliberately tries to encourage with their (admittedly) unconventional approach to game design.

      I think the bloodstains/coop are awesome. I know about the wiki to! But I do think I shouldn't have to go outside the game to do hw and that it is a sign the game could do better at guiding the player. I feel that's fair criticism and that even though elden ring is great ..its not immune to criticism. It can have all the things it does now and do better at guiding the player without resorting to handholding ^^

      True. Specially the in-game messages. My first time through Elden Ring I jumped all of Godfrey's ground slams on my winning attempt thanks to a message.
      The message was something typical of Souls games like "Be wary of ground therefore try jumping" or whatever. It worked the first time, I got absolutely smacked the subsequent times. But because it worked the first time, I kept trying and eventually that slam went from the move I was struggling the most to the move I had the easiest time dodging.
      Then Hoarah Loux happened and it went about as expected for a first-timer. But I'm a pro wrestler, small indie one, and getting paid for powerbombed instead of doing the powerbombing felt like a nice change of pace.

      @@Rosiebellmoo I honestly think it's so much better to tell the players as little as possible and literally let them figure it out themselves. I love how much I was able to learn peerly through theory testing and going out of my way to test everything out for myself and I feel that isn't something I would be able to enjoy if it's hardwired into the game to hint and guide me to it. Discovering which enemies are parriable and which ones aren't and which attacks are parriable and which ones aren't is fun to me. It goes back to older classic games when gaming was just starting like Diablo. I love that stat debuffs aren't told to you, it's up to you to find and take notice of it. Yellow Zombies that permanently shorten your health bar every time they touch you, that's fun to me. Even to the point where if you don't notice something until it's much too late to the point you either deal with it...or trash the game and start over from the beginning. Vampyr did something sorta similar in essence that killed a character you could've interacted with, but because the game is always on autosave, if you make the wrong decisions prior to a boss fight, that character will die before you can even gain access to her part of game. I want more of this, more secrets and hidden mechanics that the devs are okay with never being discovered. The Nameless King could've been a boss no one ever fought if nobody ever figured out the puzzle to get to his location and I think that's what makes finding him an amazing mystery.

    When I explained the appeal of Fromsoftware's style, I cautioned a co-worker, who badly wants to get into the games, 'You need to understand that the primary source of lore is through environmental story telling. It's hiding in plain sight, and every player can glimpse a part of it another can't: so, if you want to learn the fine points, you need to engage with other players.'
    Rosie, these games encourage investigation and interpersonal speculation; you're supposed to collaborate with the community and crowd source information. That's not "hand holding", that's called team work. Fromsoft are aware that their fans aren't kids, they're mostly adults with careers, some in architecture, some in history, some in astrology, some in art history; some are pagans; some are Catholics; some are Jewish, and some are Muslim. Some players are just cracked and will hit a wall a hundred times just to see if it's fake, confirm it is, and then immediately tell the community who will instantly try it out. Everyone's bringing their insights and specialties to the table.
    These games have some of the most comprehensive world building in fantasy, applying concepts like iconoclasm, and, most important, lost history and unsolved mysteries. A good world builder knows that some questions are more compelling than any answer. Like a magic trick, the secret impresses no one more than the actual trick, and usually less. It's more realistic that some answers are just lost to a time abyss; and some are just unknowable. Where did Ungoliant come from in 'Lord of the Rings'? What was Lovecraft's 'Nameless City' called? How old are the Endless in 'Sandman'? If you're frustrated by the lore, that's because the lore is history and history is infamously convoluted, for every answer a legion of questions.
    Sweaty enough for you?

      I'm not sure why, but it feels much worse to me having to go online and read what people have pieced together about the mechanics or lore. If I can't find out the information in-game (including using stuff like the message system), I consider that information lost to me on principle, and I only turn online to read what other people have gathered when I've given up on the game completely. I treat it as spoilers - only appropriate to consume if you don't care anymore about your experience. As soon as I look something major up online for a game, I lose all motivation to play it myself, and at that point I might as well just watch a few videos and shelf the game.
      When it comes to obscuring parts of the lore, it's different from mechanics, and even then I think there are parts that should not be obscured. If I'm playing a character in a world that's supposed to be cohesive, I need to know the basics of what the character would base their goals and motivations on. If I'm plopped into this world and am expected to control a character's actions, I don't really want to do it without having at least a slight idea of what would move this character to do anything at this point in time. Even if it's something as primitive as them also discovering and exploring the world from the ground-up just as I will be. I feel like fromsoft have been getting worse and worse at this each game. Dark Souls 1's intro gave you the basic creation myth, the situation with the world and enough context about yourself to get a feel of what you're even trying to do. And each subsequent game just lost bits of this until it became completely incomprehensible.

      @@Antroid i think there is a middle ground where you can have many things for the player discovery but also have some things that can be criticized, elden ring is a masterpiece and everyone knows that, but its ok to acknowledge flaws, without it implying wanting to get rid of discovery all together, we can love these things, and still say some things are overly convoluted.

    • @IggyTthunders
      @IggyTthunders 2 месяца назад +1

      @@Antroid When it comes to core game mechanics, I 100% agree that there's room for improvement. The menu descriptions do not do the core mechanics justice. For example, saying arcane boosts 'some status attacks' is gallingly ambiguous; when what it should say is what specific status effects it buffs, like bleed and frost damage.
      As for the lore, hey, I get it: not every style of story telling is for everyone. Shad Brooks loves the lore, but has, in multiple videos, excoriated its method of delivery, as a published author. Whereas Brandon Sanderson, who considers the DS franchise to be one of the greatest settings in fiction, and his first published book is hhhheavily inspired by it, he appreciates it bc its lore can only be delivered THAT way: bc it's a video game. Two accomplished story tellers: two vastly different opinions.
      I agree there are better games when it comes to motivating the main protagonist, even a perfectly anonymous one. BioShock comes to mind. Jack goes to Rapture bc there was nowhere else to go; he fights to leave it bc the alternative is death. He has no internal drama, just an external melodrama forcing him to engage in Rapture's civil war. The game oozes with lore resplendent with iconic baddies like Ryan, Lamb, Fontaine, Steinman and Coen. Fromsoft, in contrast, just favors environmental storytelling. For example, have you gone inside a tomb and noticed jars on the ground and in the walls? Did you notice, when you roll into them, they're filled with ashes? They're cremation jars, and, if you read the description on the Death Poker, you can learn that bodies used to be cremated ,by Death Birds, using Ghostflame (which is still used for torches inside): which meabs those tombs have been repurposed. The Golden Order didn't make them, and that's why you'll see statuary with missing heads and hands everywhere. Those artifacts are victims of iconoclasm, the Golden Order destroying the iconography of the old religion, during the Crucible. It's why you'll see dragon statues with missing heads in the temples for dragon communion, temples which have plainly been burned to the rubble. Fromsoft LOVES adding that kind of historicity to its settings. It's one of the features that makes their games so damn replayable.

    • @IggyTthunders
      @IggyTthunders 2 месяца назад +6

      @@Rosiebellmoo I mean, I agree, basically. There's always room for improvement in just about anything, really, but, if the improvement* is taking apple pie and turning it into baklava, well, then you're not improving apple pie: bc that's not apple pie. I'm not saying that's what you're suggesting, just defining parameters. Not all criticism is valid when taste is involved. If you don't like seafood, bc it doesn't taste like chicken, then you're probably not going to like salmon as a rule; that's not the restaurant's fault. Likewise genre is important whenever we talk about what's a bug versus what's a feature.
      Absolutely some details are... pointlessly convoluted. For example, just to nail the point of complaints, there's a spirit ash of a hawk that "refuses to be called", it's too proud to be summoned, bc it was once a "Lord of the Storm"; the implication being that this hawk is THE hawk, the original Lord of Stormveil that Godfrey defeated, the hawk featured on all the plagues on all the barricades around the castle-- but why not just fucking say "This is that guy!" It costs nothing, it spoils nothing truly important, it's just a neat bit of lore that immerses the player in the world, and yet even that meanest of tidbits needs to be cryptic; so, yeah, totally: sometimes it is frustrating what details Fromsoft will just blurt out versus what's roundly implied. When you say these games can be needlessly obscure, well: you're not wrong 😆
      What fans of this genre of RPG are bull-doggish about is Fromsoft hearing grumblings from tourists and massively overreacting.

    I think the big thing elden ring expects you to do is, if one thing isn’t working, to try another. And to keep trying all those things rather than trying to make a one-size-fits-all build/strategy. It’s an rpg, you test out enemy weaknesses by using different types of attacks, you figure out how to survive theu a fight by seeing how effective dodging blocking running away jumping etc are to each boss, you get to a hard wall and you try a different direction or you level up and try to out-stat it. You learn these things by doing these things.
    Or by watching tutorials (the online community-information-sharing thing has been baked into these games from the beginning too, they expect *someone* to figure it out and tell everyone else, either in game with hint messages, during co-op, or wherever they post about it online, it’s a legitimate strategy!!)

      Very eloquent way of putting it.
      I would also like to add (in a not eloquent way) that when people say they don't like to have the game hold their hand, what they really are saying, regardless of whether they want to figure it out on their own or not, is that they don't want to feel like the game (or, rather, the devs) have such little faith in the player's ability to play the game that they need to regularly interrupt their gameplay to tell them details. The response to a game doing that is similar to the response of people backseating them, which has some irony because there's some overlap with people that look things up and people that backseat.
      Nevertheless, some people, whether through their own trial and error or through looking up what others have done or found, at most just want the game itself to tell them about the more universal systems and mechanics and not the blatantly obvious or nitty-gritty.
      There's also the other definition of handholding that has less to do with whether the game explains its systems and mechanics and more that the game's design is regularly handing out situations where it feels like player input doesn't really matter for success, but that's another story.

      I just dont like when it's something not intuitive that can make me feel like I missed out mainly! I want to enjoy all the game has to offer..and am sad if I miss something like..not talking to an npc 5 times on the other side of the map etc. I think it comes from me not having played from soft games and the easiest being elden ring . But as an intro ..the linear simple things (like always clicking npcs multiple times for dialogue ) may be missed if you aren't familiar

    *i apologize in advance for this long winded comment. i just really like talking about games. and some of your comments has got me thinking*
    theres something to games that dont "hand hold". i understand theres a certain audience probably a majority that have been accustomed to the standards that have been set with tutorials and teaching mechanics to players in modern times. but some designers deliberately like to add mechanics that they specifically wont straight up explain to players because they want players to experiment and discover them on their own. this is kind of an old school thing but capcom has plenty of this in something like the devil may cry or even the monster hunter series with certain tech you can do. with Souls games its not only in its gameplay where they give u the bare minimum explanation. but i understand where they are coming from because i feel the same satisfaction of discovery in systems/mechanics. in sousl games, this persists through all aspects of the game like level design, combat, and even the lore. to you it might be condescending but miyazaki has done this because he values gameplay agency. i started gaming alot in mid to late 90's and it was more prevalent then because most of the explaining was in game manual booklets that most did not read, so when we played we were just completely lost and had to figure out things naturally or just get stuck. not to mention games back then were less homogenized and focus tested. in many ways fromsoft games still carry those oldschool philosophies. it can be frustrating but its not a matter of pretentiousness or condescension. Miyazaki probably wanted to emulate joyful experiences he had in gaming and not so much a point of trying to be hard or convoluted just for the sake of the label. For example Miyazaki is a fan of Shadow of the Colossus. that game is very minimal in what it tells you. it gives u a sword and tells u go find the colossi. it doesnt give u a way point or a line that leads you directly to the next boss. it barely explains the story either. it simply allows you to explore and find these things on your own. you can see that design sentiment all through his games. it might not be to the taste of everyone but mind you the souls games were niche. Demons souls was critically panned initially and then became a cult hit. so ironically while it still retains its core design principles that cater to niche crowds it has simultaneously become a global hit with Elden Ring just from gradually gaining a dedicated cult fan base in the last decade or so.
    TLDR: there's plenty of us and most likely mizayaki himself who genuinely enjoy this style of design; not to carry some badge where its the most "hardcore" or needlessly convoluted but simply because discovering and learning systems/mechanics/story without having it explained to a T is rewarding in its own right. the more mysterious as a whole in gameplay and story, the more alluring it is to engage with the world.
    *another thing i want to add with the lore is that while it might not be for everyone and i do agree it doesnt have the same immediate emotional pay off as other more traditional structured "narratives" as other games like The Last of Us for example, again this is just one of those weird miyazaki quirks. he really loves fragmented pieces of "story" that people can just put together on their own like a puzzle and plenty of things are left ambiguous. i don't think there's anything wrong with that. its just different and a matter of preference. to reference an interview with him, "Often he’d reach passages of text he couldn’t understand, and so would allow his imagination to fill in the blanks, using the accompanying illustrations. In this way, he felt he was co-writing the fiction alongside its original author. The thrill of this process never left him". this explains alot of why his lore seems needlessly convoluted and probably why alot of things are convoluted in his games. he wanted to recreate the joyful experiences of his childhood when reading books that were in a different language to his own. not to mention the co-writing also speaks to his desire for a collaborative experience as can be witnessed by the online messaging system in his games. btw the quote i put above is from an interview with miyazaki with the guardian. personally, its why i really resonated with Demons Souls in 2009. Demons Souls had come out at a time when games weren't really like that anymore. it was linear, on rails, action shooters, with tutorials guiding you through a good portion of the beginning with some exceptions. hell even survival horror games like Dead Space discarded many things about them in favor of more accessible features like a way point system that directly shows you the path you have to go instead of figuring it out for yourself. then theres miyazaki who brought it back a bit with this highly experimental game that would go on to birth a genre. it felt cryptic and mysterious and really emulated that feeling i had with videogames as a child in the late 90's/early 2000's. Ive since felt it ever so slightly deviate from that feeling though with every iteration of a souls games. but i still very much appreciate the things that you consider negatives in his games. i will say after all of this that i dont believe his games are perfect. i have my own critique about some things in ER but nevertheless this is what ive learned from why things are the way they are designed in fromsoft games.

    In my opinion most of the people who look for guidance through forums and youtube videos are trying to solve a particular issue or want to know some information like about builds or story and significance of items and other stuff, so most of the time the help they need is very particular and based on curiosity. Souls like games are suppose to be like the way they are, being lost and clueless and finding out different paths and clues of the story is what we are supposed to do. The way that it works now is the best way because people who want handholding can go on youtube and forums and get the help they need, and people who don't want handholding can just play the game. By adding handholding in the game the part of the community who enjoys the game in the way it is gets devoid of the experience.

    yeah don't sweat it, i'm a bit of a veteran with souls games and elden ring is a whole different kind of beast, i mean i still haven't adjusted to jumping over attacks as dodge rolling is so ingrained into my psyche at this point, and really it took me this long to figure out that armor actually matters in terms of damage, i was under the assumption of fashion souls all this time.
    but many of these small tricks like with sleeping pots and magic darts there are tips in the game and the merchants sell them to you.
    but there's so many things elden ring actually doesn't explain and you have to kinda look under the hood and experiment, for example counter attacks and pierce damage, it's the only type of damage that deals extra damage under a specific condition of the enemy and that is during an enemys active attack frames, and this is typically why spears and thrusting swords have slightly less damage output all on their own because it's actually locked behind this mechanic that rewards counter attacking.
    the other thing it really doesn't explain is how ashes of war and stats work, that fire ashes of war scale with strength and lightning scales with dex.

    Look at this way. Do you really need the game to have some way of explaining some of these convoluted mechanics? Does not knowing some of these mechanics really take away from the experience? Same goes with npcs. Does not meeting them or not completing questlines really take away from the experience? I've always thought that these games are meant to be fully enjoyed through multiple playthroughs so that you can take your time and discover these things naturally.
    My friend who streams had a pretty poor experience of allowing her viewers to join her often but it ruined the experience for her because they constantly handholded, backseated, killed everything for her and showed exactly where to go all of the time. She ended up quitting the game for a year and recently started playing again mostly on her own and is now having a blast so I really understand your point about backseaters. I played all of lies of p on mouse and keyboard ..all of a crabs lost treasure without any sort of guides. I do however. Feel like some things in the game do a very good job at encouraging the player or at least feeling ..natural? If your paying attention. And some others feel..very random . It can feel very overwhelming to have so many systems and ones that people sort of are expected to know from previous titles when your playing elden as your first dark souls game.
      This game. Compared to any souls like..as a from soft is recommended to new players..and its literally huge. It dwarfs all the others. I've never played a game so huge with so many things in it.

    I think the hand-holding discussion could use some additional nuance. "Yellow paint" style hand-holding, or mission markers, etc, is telling people how to apply the mechanics they already know to the world. I hate those, because they make actually playing the game meaningless. But the type that gives you a clear understanding of the mechanics is a different type of guidance. It's just like having a tutorial in a game, or a manual. You learn about most of the mechanics, and then you go into the game's world and explore all the ways you can apply those mechanics to the things the game throws at you. Those are my favorite games. Like Deus Ex has an extensive tutorial, and people don't say it holds your hand, because 99% of the game is still exploration and discovery. Or old RPGs where you could study the manual for all the stats, skills, spells and mechanics before even launching the game - I think it would be insane to call that hand-holding, and yet diehard fromsoft fans find a way.
    So there is an important distinction. What level of exploration do you want from a game. Do you want to explore the game's rules too, or just the game's world. And the most extreme examples of hand-holding that people give are the ones that ruin the exploration of the game's content, meanwhile people like me just want guidance that bypasses the blind trial and error of guessing the systems, because that has never been fun for me.
    Also, when I'm playing a game, I only look up stuff online when I've pretty much given up. I guess in that sense it's even one step beyond your position: I never want to have to see build guides or anything like that. To me that's like the batman no kill rule. As soon as I have to look up a guide, there's no point in playing by myself anymore. I will just watch a playthrough if I'm curious about anything and forget about the game afterwards. If fromsoft's "community interaction" design paradigm only extended to the ingame messages (which are an excellent system), it would be my cup of tea, but if it really expects you to use other people's information online, then they have lost me (to be fair, I have done an OK job bypassing their intent while playing dark souls 1-3). Information that I can't reasonably discover ingame is information I consider lost and not intended for me, and if that information is crucial then the game is designed in a way that's the opposite of how I wanna engage with it.

    • @Rosiebellmoo
      @Rosiebellmoo  2 месяца назад

      i feel like thats fair, and yeah its difficult to find balance ! I am no game dev, i just feel like some of the game is not intuitive in some of its systems, but its kinda exhausting to speak about much (well not in most places but here apparently people view criticism as being for the game, or against it, and if you criticize it, well you must want yellow paint lol) . I am not sure where the sweet spot is, but i am at least glad to see people not asweird about superiority for using vs not using summons now lol.

    Rosie rosie rosie. Sweaty souls nerd reporting in here. No handholding or guides for me, the whole joy of souls games is to figure shit out on your own for me. The fun of those games is to go out there, get your ass handed to you then figure out things and proceed, same with the story, you piece it all together from vague clues and npc interactions, you feel like some sort of archeologist whilst trying to uncover all the things. And after you've come up with some form of understanding you go out to the internet and compare notes with other similarly sweaty showerless and maidenless nerds and geek out over crap and debate until the cows come home and insult everyone because your interpretation of the lore is truer than theirs and such is the life of a sweaty souls gamer, good life through and through. 🐮 Moo I hope they make more of these types of games where a lot of things are counterintuitive and you have to really figure things out by trial and error, it gives it so much replay value and over all worth. Everything these days tends to nudge you the "right way" too much so you can't play detective in fantasy rpg which i love more than anything. Reminds me a lot of some of the snes RPGs where you just have no idea where to go and you just look around for hours.
    Also, never let anyone dictate how you play an RPG, if it's in the game you can use it. My friend always shits on me because i use anything and everything and he goes biggest weapon possible and pretty much naked but fuck that. Even my DS1 playthrough my friend was constantly shitting on me for using pyromancy but what do i care. If i want to suffer needlessly i'll find a cactus and shove it up my ass, i'm here to sniff through a fantasy world and figure out what's going on in that world, not to suffer because of some self imposed handicap.

    Hi rosie great reaction to reaction for a reaction.
    On the lore bit i think it that this could help you a bit to understand why the souls games stories are made this way and why it's appealing.
    Miyazaki himself sayed that this style of writing came to him in his childhood when he used to read english books, due to being still younge and still having poor english he could only understand bits of the storys that he was reading. So he filled the gabes of the story himself using the pictures of the books plus his imaginations.
    That's why souls games are made this way he wants the players to experience the same sence of lost learning the story bit by bit by searching themselves the connections between npc's locations and item like an archeolog.
    For instance to ilustrate this you can think for example that let's say you found a flame sord in snowy mountains, there is a good chance that you might think to yourself "well that's odd to find a flame sord out here", then you might notice sculptures around when you found the sword.....maybe after hours of play your eye will catch something in this new zone and you will think to yourself "ohh wait thoes sculptures i think i saw them before" and you would realize that there is a connection between the two zones, why does the same unique architecture repeat here as well, you might be asking questions and before you know it you start to read the item descriptions of all the items of this zone to piece up the story.
    This type of writing is appealing because :
    A player who doesn't care about the lore won't even notice these things and just enjoys the game.
    While thoese who kepp close attention to details can enjoy piecing and speculating around piceces of the story knowing full well that the full picture is impossible to obtain but just like real researchers they try their best to get as close as possible to the full story, they can then share it, debate about it with other members of the community.
    You can think of the lore channels and guides as researchers and their viewers as sience enthusiasts that reads a thesis.

    i think you're combining the fair-weather souls people and the die hard community a little bit. cuz between releases, when no one is there except the people who are obsessed with these games, the souls Reddits are the warmest, friendliest, most welcoming, encouraging place on the internet, no cap. everyone is so lovely and supportive. there's zero toxicity, cuz everyone is on the same journey of discovery, and we're all excited about each other's achievements and theories. and if someone is ever mean to a new player or is negging someone, they get piled on and shut down immediately. it's a beautiful thing to see. it's a philosophy of "if you're having fun, you're doing it correctly".
    but maaaan, whenever a new one comes out, the subs get flooded by all these toxic, competitive people. pvp folks or people who are there to be able to say they beat the hard game. it happens with every new release like clockwork. it's wild. they're he ones who misuse the phrase "git gud" to sh*t on new people. cuz that phrase means, and has always meant, "don't give up" not "don't ask for help".
    as far as guides, my feeling, and the general consensus on the souls reddits, is that every time you use a guide, you risk destroying the intended experience. they guides are like guns in that way. you only put your finger on the trigger when you're ready to accept consequences that can't be taken back. for me at least, the discovery and observation and accumulation of knowledge is the fun part.

    Seems half like an oversight to me. A lot of attacks are aimed towards the ground since the devs expects you to roll and they likely want players to work for those invincibility timings. On the other hand they also might expect people to jump over ground obstacles, moving the hit box up so that you don't need to be pixel perfect to do it, but jumping over full on ground attacks or shock waves likely wasn't their intention. Honestly i wouldn't know how they could adjust that without caging people into rings of hurt that you just can't roll through.

    Well the fun of the game is that the story doesnt get in the way of your gameplay but if you want to understand things you have to explore and discover which is what you would want someone to do in a fantasy world, while never knowing the whole truth as your story in the souls series always starts at the final phase of this part of history.
    But my only real gripe with the game is that story lines arent easy to follow and dont give you much context on where they might go next. But i also have no idea how they could do it better, maybe adding some directions or hinting at biomes in their dialog

    Looking back, a lot of the early Elden Ring community stuff was pretty wild. Saying "you can't summon or use magic because they're too easy" is like trying to say "you can't level up or equip new weapons because it's too easy." They're all mechanics purposefully implemented in the game to allow players to tackle challenges however they want, and none of them are any less valid than the others.
    I'm glad to see you giving Elden Ring another chance, despite the frustration from the past. I'll be cheering for you!

    • @WookieWarriorz
      @WookieWarriorz 2 месяца назад +1

      play however you want but using magic and shit is absolutely less difficult, souls games are all about the dance with the bosses and learning their moves and finally getting that good run, if you strip that away you absolutely are missing something from the experience. Im so fanatical about souls games because of this aspect because it lets me face a challenge because i have to learn the dance and struggle and get that good dopamine hit and thats a much more powerful experience than that of someone who is just meandering along summoning and using magic. And then if the scenario comes that the person who barely played the game in the same powerful way i did, wants changes made to the game that would hamper and dilute my experience. Thats why i say if you really dont like the way fromsoft does things just play something else, every single other game is made for you and pretty much only fromsoft makes art for people like me, even the attempts by other studios just dont understand the fromsoft magic.

    My major problems with your "hot takes" -wich they aren't, believe me XD- is that you attribute too much to from soft, when the majority of those problems are the fault of players, because they lacked the creativity and went with whatever they saw did more damage. I have the tendency to play games going my way, so everytime I come to something is all in my own merits, someone may have discovered it before, but I didn't look for their things, I did it in my own. It's the same with the Talisman and weapons, there are only like 3 things I can fault Fromsoft for explaining poorly -wich are some words of the shields and their proprieties- but the majority of what you said was mostly a fault of the own community never even looking or reading well a description and doing what the influencer of fame had at the moment. There is GinoMachino, look at the series of "only raising X stat" and how many times he says "I didn't know it was this good!" To a talisman or incantation
    Plus I don't see fair saying that there are things you can miss as a bad things, is an open world full of opportunities Wich most notorious experience point is traveling on your own and discovering your own incredible way to play
