24 hours as a solo female traveller in Algeria (is it safe?)

- In this video I spend 24 hours alone in Algeria before my tour begins. I take a couple of walks around Algiers and go for a day trip to the beaches. Is Algeria safe for solo female travellers? I answer this question in the video - and show you some snippets of Algerian life, food and culture too!

I visited Algiers, Constantine and oran last 3 years it was so beautiful 😊 by the way It's not Greek salad, it's Mediterranean salad and algeria is Mediterranean country
I loved Algiers and Constantine! Haven't had a chance to visit Oran yet but hopefully not this time. Haha this salad was marketed as a Greek Salad, in the store, it has the olives but not the feta!
@@ClairesFootstepsWelcome to Algeria
I hope you visit Mila

you have a good time. 🇩🇿🇩🇿 I am jamal from london
good morning my friend. I like all your videos very much
welcom to Algeria you such a nice and kind person
A warm welcome Claire ! I am happy for you ! Enjoy the moment !
Amazing. Thank you very much to bring awareness to my country.
Where do you lives
I find it very sad that you were not able to eat much Algerian Traditional Food, because you are vegetarian, but maybe because restaurants do not understand what you mean. Many of our dishes are meat free, Checkchoka, Tbikha, Garantita, many soups/stews, Boreks with potatoes and cheese, Mesfouf, Mhajeb, Coca, or Ma3rek; not to mention all of our traditional sweets are vegetarian. The list is quite long, but it seems like you had no one to suggest these to you, I hope that you have the opportunity to try them one day.
I did eat some more traditional food elsewhere in Algeria, don't worry - this was just 24 hours when I'd just got there! Checkchoka was great :)
@@ClairesFootstepsI am glad you got try some traditional food. I was worried, because I noticed a trend amongst vegan/vegetarian tourists having difficulty with finding dishes. Either relying on middle eastern food, sandwiches or pizzas the whole time they're here, but the concept is not fully understood in the country and I certainly want everyone to experience Algerian culture regardless of their dietary lifestyle.
@@jojoscat213thank you! 😊 Sounds like there's definitely more I could try next time! I had a wonderful time in Algeria and had some great cultural experiences 😊

You are very lovable girl 😘
@@ClairesFootstepshi Claire.
I am based in Algiers but from Biskra, I could help you get around especially when it comes to food in Algiers.
I know some great traditional restaurants here in algiers where you get to taste many algerian cuisines from different regions. So if you are still here, i will be glas to help.
If not, please refer to Dar lella Yamina restaurant: typical algerian food with Algerian Zirid architecture. ❤
And welcome to Algeria !
It's kinda nice actually, I hope it stays like this for the coming years 🎉
Welcome in beautifull country ALGERIA 🇩🇿and to profit
Algeria is a very safe country but i advice you to have a companion since tourist girls generally could pay attention when walking alone especially in the villages... so manage your expectations
Welcome, Algeria is a safe country ☺️where you can act freely😹You must visit Constantine
Thankyou, yes on the whole I did feel very safe in Algeria :) My next video will be all about Constantine!
Welcome ❤
You can go to Tlemcen it is in the west of the country. I am sure you will like this wilaya . Another place it is the street between boumerdes and Bejaia . I think it good place there and you are welcome
Thanks, Bejaia is on my list already, I will take a look at Tlemcen too :)
you should try mhajeb at some point while your here i think they're friendly to your vegan diet , it's like a crepe like flatbread filled with shakshuka and its so damn delicious
funny enough here 12:40 you were like 15min away from my home lol
Haha small world! Thanks, I had something similar in Constantine (although think it was a little different) - will be in my next video :)
Welcome ❤❤❤

Algiers, like the whole of Algeria, is generally safe, but nevertheless you should be very careful when in the midst of the crowd, and don't flash your expensive belongings like jewels, camera, mobile etc, and especially avoid empty places, whether by day or by night, always walk in streets where there are many people and(preferably) always accompanied by someone.Oh no, don't panick;it's not so dramatic!Such happenings are scarce;I just want you to have a good and memorable trip in our wonderful country. Algerian people are very good, warm, generous and helpful, it takes sometime before discovering the good side in them(and the bad in some others, unfortunately... like everywhere in the world). Wish you a good journey and sweet memories of our country, you are welcome any time!
Déjà qui a pas beaucoup de touristes y m’enquérais plus q’une agression sur un touriste venu visiter la culture de ton pays
Thanks, this is a good summary! Generally I did feel safe, just important to take precautions like in any city. I agree most Algerian people were exceptionally friendly and kind :)
Thats NOT SAFE if.you had to do all you mentioned here
You are talking as if algeria is your own property
@@hamsrider8179
I am talking like one among millions of the country, that's all;its just that I wanted to explain things to her so that she might have the best stay in my country;anyone can do the same. Your comment is strange, besides being rude and uncivilized. I really hope you are not an Algerian, because it'd be a shame
how about visa
You're welcome

Come to visit Tizi-ouzou
Welcome
From all the visitors you are the only one who said that you've been kinda hassle, witch I'm very surprised...normally i never happened..
yeah I did get a bit of hassle on my own, not constantly and didn't happen when I was with my partner but unfortunately there was a little!
Algeria has not yet opened up to Tourism, however, catcalling is found everywhere, I live in the UK, and women are harassed, sometimes even attacked in parks, in the tube, in buses, and in the streets of all cities and towns up and down the country, especially on Friday and Saturday night. I can assure you, when it comes to safety, you are safer in Algiers than you will be in London, Leeds, New Castle, Manchester or any town in Essex for instance.
I did generally feel safe in Algiers, I mention that throughout the video. However, I'm from the UK and there was definitely a lot more catcalling in Algiers. It may still be safer, but there's no denying that I did get a lot of unwanted attention when I was on my own!
