Yessss that's what it did to me :(
As the parent of the polar opposite of an overachiever/go-getter, watching these "How I got into..." videos is pretty hard too. :-(
9 Fives on 10 AP tests. wtf.
"i only took classes i knew i could do well in"
takes 9 ap classes and ten ap exams and gets 5 on every class
Jenna Ismyfirstname Is AP classes are a part of application
Yes. I read somewhere that some colleges require you to take a minimum number of AP classes (although I also read that if you can't financial afford them, you don't have to). But don't quote me on this topic, I'm still a freshman and my school haven't told me anything about college. I mostly research on Google. Hope this helps.
The average person at my school takes around 12-14 AP classes, though not as many AP tests
Usually if you're in a public school the AP classes are free, at least where I'm from. If the school you're in provides them, and you have the grades to be accepted into them, then you can sign up next year.
After 10 AP classes though, there's literally no difference. Don't overstress yourself.
Here’s the thing about getting into many Ivy League schools. You are either a genius, or you have a good story to tell.
Bella EXE or both
Or rich idk
I have a good story... let’s hope that’s enough...
Mia Bryan good luck! I’m applying in September 2021

She just trynna sabotage us
reznov885 I
that is not what 'literally' means and that may be literally why you don't get into Harvard.
If you want to do that use hellotalk and skype ^^ I teach english in my free time
JamesJoyce12 literally, is properly used in that sentence. What the hell are you talking about? It's used to emphasize that in actuality she did teach foreign students English in her free time, it's not hyperbole.
This helped out A LOT; especially regarding extracurriculars, it's really reassuring that you don't need any OFFICIAL awards or grand extracurriculars to succeed.

If anyone wants some essay prompts, my parents who went to Harvard wrote in their essays about:
Skiing down a hill, thinking about life choices
My mom's synesthesia (I have a minor form)
Although they obviously won many competitions, applied when there was still a 10% acceptance rate, valedictorian, are really friendly, etc... Harvard still cares about the essay. Hopefully this helps!

Yeah no, being a genius does not correlate with test scores
Examples of extracurriculars that help you get into Harvard: Boys/Girls Nation (not state...nation), Eagle Scout, Debate Team Captain, Sports Team Captain, Class President or Student Body President, Black belt in a martial art, Cheerleading Captain (yes, cheerleading really helps), creating phone apps or other software that becomes popular (especially if you're a girl), having scientific research published in a peer-reviewed journal with you as a lead author, being conductor of an orchestra. Starting clubs or organizations doesn't help much because it's very common nowadays. 20-30 years ago, it helped a little.
Basically, find a couple of activities you're really interested in and go after the top level of leadership and accomplishment in those couple of activities.
Things that really don't help much for Harvard: Starting a club or organization that you are "president" of (unless it's something that really became big on a state or national level, not just your school), volunteering, tutoring, mentoring, random clubs (FBLA, HOSA, chess club, math club, etc.), summer camps and programs (unless they are extremely selective and prestigious like TASP or Research Science Institute...usually those types of programs are free), and "leadership programs/retreats/institutes." In the summer, it would be better to take challenging courses (in Calculus, English Lit, U.S. History, etc.) at a nearby 4-year university and get As in them...that would look good, especially if the courses are in the subject you plan on concentrating (i.e. majoring) in at Harvard.
Hopefully you have near-perfect (or perfect) grades and test scores. Being #1 or #2 in your class looks good. If you've taken AP or IB exams, it looks good to show them a bunch of 5s (or 7s on IB exams), and nothing below a 4 (6 on IB). It helps (a little) to be from an underrepresented state like Mississippi or Wyoming. It helps to express interest in an unpopular concentration like Linguistics or Anthropology, especially if your interest for that subject shows in your essays or activities. It helps to be a girl interested in a STEM major as long as your grades and test scores strongly back up your STEM ability.
Oh, and if you're poor or even middle class (family income less than ~$70k or so), that helps quite a bit. Incorporate that into your essays somehow. Yes, they could just look on your FAFSA form to see your family's income, but they really like kids from poor or middle class (not upper middle, haha) backgrounds. They like kids who overcame adversity or lack of opportunities in their communities and schools. This won't overcome less than great grades and test scores, but it will definitely help.
And if you don't get in, it's fine, really. Harvard (or Yale or any other school) is FAR from a guarantee of any success in life. You will have to make your own success in life regardless of where you graduate from college.
I wish my school allowed us to take summer courses! Some county rules are so stupid.
SymphonyReturnsTSwizzle VEVO u have way more extracurricular activities than average indian students. I am really shocked how u managed to do all this. Is there a way i could reach you. I really need help
Aditi Patel hi, I am from india too,
actually all we could do here is get great marks in academics and STUDY STUDY STUDY, thats what we are taught from elementary days.
Doing charity is actually not me but my father, i help him sometimes with that, as stephanie said, they're not looking for clones, its basically your STORY, your EXPERIENCE, which makes you unique, do you think harvard would take me if i was in my school choir or did charity or was a district champ or a NTSE scholar? NO
they're are thousands of students out there BETTER than this, it may happen that in the end you end up getting into harvard (i hope) and all others bragging about what they did, wont.
you are also having that ONE EXPERIENCE, no one had, they're thousands of studentd who are in school choir, swimming champs of districts even states, or national merit scholars (NTSE scholar in india) out there, who will DEFINITELY send their application to harvard; but if its nothing new, or trite (it basically depends on the particular admission officer), they will be rejected. and you here crying about your lack of extarcurricular swim right into open gates.
*_All i wan to say is never underestimate yoursrlf and do what your heart says to you, mine said that go and help those who once suffered, or are suffering, through the stories your parents told you 3 years back each night, i did and my parents supported me, especially my dad being an engieneer and a social worker, never held me Back_*
Bottom Line:-
*_do whatever you want and never over or underestimate yourself, you are BETTER than those millions of applicants out there, believe it_*
bye, tks
Aditi Patel i am sorry, their aint any other way to contact me as i dont have any facebook, or insta. or twitter, i do have an email id, but thats my personal one and main one i cant sharr, but i am all ready to know what you did and share mine through this portal

What an inspiring person! The point of this video isn't to feel depressed or feel as if you're not as great, everyone has their own abilities and experiences that will shape them and their future. Take it as a lesson on being true to yourself and working hard. Being the same age as her and Hispanic I can in a way relate, however I wasn't a great test taker but that didn't stop me from getting into one of the top public schools. Wish I could read her essays they must have been wonderful, good luck at Harvard!
Aloevera iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
I could finally breathe after watching this video, I mean not that I'll ever make it but it helped me that she was so honest and gave advice that is actually feasible.

I’m thirteen i worry about college
Same!
my life right now... and I live in the netherlands so my mind is blowing because of these vids lmao I'll never make it
SAME!!!!!
Here’s the secret take it easy when you get to high school most colleges will reject students who are straight out of high school anyways. If you want to go to impressive schools go to a community college because it’s a restart button colleges don’t care about your high school grades or your SAT and ACT scores, by that point so they only look at what your grades are in community college. If you do extremely well you can get into very good colleges. For example, i have a friend who was 2 years older then me and he had a gpa of 3.1. He went to community college, did really well there, and got into UCLA which is one of the top 3 public colleges in the world. Don’t worry about getting into a four year straight away look at all your options and find out what’s the best one for the situation you are in when you become a senior.

Amazing!
Very helpful and sweet girl! Thank you!
Please do Columbia and thank you for these videos ❤️
wish I saw you before I applied for college years ago. really hit me concerning things that is not official extra curricular and I didn't even include being a tutor to my schoolmates in my college application. nice point concerning writing an essay that is really thought deeply instead of just writing expected essays that you know previous students have written before. nice vid and congrats.
I love her personality. Great addition to Harvard.
Waow! Truly inspiring 😄✌

You are great!
She's amazing!
I fully agree with her!
Thank you so much

this was incredible !! :)
She is great!
She tested using the new old SAT. Now they have the NSAT which has a highest possible score of 1600 instead of 2400.
Wow thank you so much. Super informative. Just curious, what books did you read over the summer?
I mostly reread children's books that I already knew I liked. I don't have very sophisticated, erudite taste. I think I read the Pretty Little Liars series, the Divergent series, the Hunger Games series, and Harry Potter again. I might have read the Little House on the Prarie books as well, for nostalgia's sake. All very mainstream. :)
Nice choices!
Omg she's Amazing.❤
IM WORRIED ABOUT COLLEGE AND IM FREAKIN IN &TH GRADE😭

Taking only courses you know you'll do well in, especially narrowing it down as much as possible to courses you really care about, makes all the difference in the world.
I am doing calc 3 as a junior fml
Can you do Dartmouth and Brown please?
Hi I watched your supertutor video, and I was wondering how you made a girls who code chapter in your school, because I read online that you have to be 18. I'm really interested in creating one in my school because I think not a lot of girls have been introduced to coding so I would really appreciate it if you could help me out!
This made me so nervous.
“I applied to 20 other schools”.
I’m applying to 8.
Jesus Christ.
Don't be sad if you try hard enough you can get there😊
I'm very similar to this girl. This gives me hope.
Im 12 and its my dream school. I hope i get in when im done high school
It's Just Me I am also 12 years old and Harvard is also my dream school.
If I ever got into Harvard, I'd be the first in my family to get into a Ivy league.
It's Just Me Same I really want to get in its my dream school and I’m also 12 I hope I can go there to make myself proud and my parents
Y'all probably won't see this but I'll let it out anyway. I live in India (duh) and I'm 16 years old. Harvard has been my dream school for a while. As of now I am sitting on a billion dollar business idea but I will not be able to attend college if I pursue the idea. You don't need college to be successful in life. I wish my parents thought likewise. Getting into harvard sounds great and probably is, but don't ever be afraid to go where nobody else ever has been. I wish the best of luck to all of you 13 year olds. I hope y'all fulfil your dreams.
@@typicalindian1238 i'm from India too, and I really want to get into Harvard. Did you try btw?

BROWN PLEASE!
Hello SuperTutor!
Just like Stefani, I'm thinking about hosting an international students and earn extra money. I looked up some websites but neither of them earn money only tax deductions. Can you tell me what agency Stefani used to host international students?
Thank you!
3 people are jealous that they can't get into Harvard
Do colleges take your high school into consideration? Because she was talking about friends who took 8 AP classes at once, and I don't think my school has 8 AP classes total.
Im glad I live in Spain we dont have all this lmao... after highschool you do 2 years of "bachillerato" which are subjects that are divided into 4 categories (health science, technologh science, social science and humanities) and u do basic subjetcs in them, it kinda just feels like 2 more years of high school, and the end marks is 60% of your score for university, then you do a test that has all the global subjects (maths,english...) and then if you want you can add 4 more subjetcs to that test to get a higher score, but only subjects of the category you chose (of science and all that).
i'm so proud of her and i dont know her
what!? like its hard??
I'm an international student and we don't have any major extracurriculars or AP courses at my school. I'm in the Heritage club (you can only join one club) where we just learn about the heritage of our country and sometimes visit museums and such. I get straight As and have some certificates for essay writing and pencil drawing. Do you think I could get into an Ivy League or MIT?
Try joining a local Kiwanis club.
You can get into Top universities without taking APs or extracurriculars through your chances are low compared to other applicants. Most universities like Harvard or MIT (this two actually require them) asks you to take SAT and minimum of two SAT subject test, you should check out their website for more information. If you want to increase your chances I would recommend doing some activities outside of your school like volunteering in a hospital (this a good option for you, if you can, because it shows commitment), you also don't need to participate in many stuff, just find something that interests you and mean something special so your essay can be meaningful. Also, you can self-study for APs (and SATs of course) if you willing to, but be prepared to spend a lot of time (I self-study for both SAT and 8 APs). Worth to mention that taking SATs and AP is expensive so Harvard, for example, accept students without taking APs and SAT subject tests if your financial situation doesn't allow it. But if you can, Harvard will prefer you to take them as it is their admission requirement (SAT that is). Hope this help you out. Regards!
@@borderlinebuffy989 Thanks for the reply! I did take the SAT twice and my better score was 1500 and I'm taking my subject tests next month. I would have loved to take some of the AP tests but they're not available in my state and I couldn't afford to travel because it coincided with school stuff
