  • The shifter cable in this 2005 Ford F-150 Lariat failed. When this happened, moving the gear shifter did not change the gear the vehicle was in. The vehicle transmission was stuck in the gear at the time the cable broke. This video identifies the steps necessary to replace the shifter cable to address the issue. This video covers how to remove the bad cable and install a new OEM replacement shifter cable.

    I have the same problem one year ago. My mechanic helps me fixing the small conexion to the shifter. But yesterday i started again having some troubles with the start ignition (that means in a high probability, the cable isnt going on parking). So im thinking to fix again or changing the cable. Thanks to you and your knowledge i can do the procedure. New sub here my friend !!!!

      Mine went out yesterday (2005 F150)~ it's at the mechanic shop right now after being towed over there. Could be those 'yellow' bushings or change the entire cable like the OP is doing here - hope it ain't that... we'll see ~ thanks for the vid, big help in narrowing the problem down !

    You can buy just the bushings as well if your cable is in good shape.

    To find drive did you turn the truck off in neutral when making the adjustments?

    • @BlackHoleDIY
      @BlackHoleDIY  10 месяцев назад +1

      I turned the truck off with the shifter in the drive position, then moved the arm on the transmission.

    I put the new cable in, and the shifter isn’t quite lined up when I put it into reverse and drive, what do I need to adjust to fix this

    • @BlackHoleDIY
      @BlackHoleDIY  2 месяца назад

      I experienced a similar issue. Did you try what I showed in the video: release the adjustment mechanism where the cable fixes to the pivoting arm, manually move the arm to "find" the gear, then lock the adjustment in place?

    • @cooperdarr1000
      @cooperdarr1000 2 месяца назад

      @@BlackHoleDIYyup trying that right now, the main issue is the truck is starting while in the reverse gear

      Hi Misty. Unfortunately, I did not measure the cable's length before installing.

    • @BlackHoleDIY

      The process is likely similar but I'm sure it would require a different cable.

    Why can’t you just replace the bushing that holds the cable to the shifter lug?

    • @BlackHoleDIY
      @BlackHoleDIY  14 дней назад +1

      Hi Mark. I suppose you could. Another viewer had a similar comment. I wasn't considering that at the time and just went ahead and replaced the whole cable. But this is helpful for others who may elect to just replace the bushing. Thank you!

      @@BlackHoleDIY my ‘04 F150 has failed me many times, this time it is the shifter cable. If replacing the bushing isn’t an option for me, your video will be a great guide for the full cable replacement.
