The good thing is LA doesn't have to build any venues. They can use the Colosseum, Sofi Stadium and Crypto Arena amongst others.
They also thought about after the games are over.The swim center was built at USC, so of course USC continued use it.The velodrome was built at Cal State Dominguez Hills, so the university continued to use it. Athletes didn't stay in one place. They were spread out. The athletes' living quarters were at local colleges/universities, which were later repurposed as student dormitories.
London 2012 Olympics also were very successful even after the games.

We now know the former Soviet Union and other former communist countries had extensive drugs programmes for their athletes so by not turning up the Los Angeles Games in 1984 were much cleaner than they would have been. So most of the medals were won fairly (though I am sure not all) and therefore most of the medal winners deserved their success, and rightly got their award.
Had the Soviet bloc turned up and had competed not using drugs, they would not have won many, if not most of the medals they would have taken by the use of drugs.
Therefore the Soviet bloc was not missed and their absence made the 1984 Games fairer.
We got it by default in 84 and again in 2028 that's funny

I heard the 84 games were originally awarded to Tehran but withdrew shortly after getting them due to political turmoil. LA was awarded them on the basis they were the only other ones that bid for them.
As a 13-year-old girl back in 1984, I was extremely excited about the Summer Olympics.

Edwin Moses was born nineteen years after the 1936 Olympics. He won a total of two gold medals in his Olympic career: a gold in the 400m hurdles in 1976, and another gold in the same event in 1984. He probably would have won gold in 1980 as well, but he was not allowed to compete because of Jimmy Carter's boycott.
Meant Jesse Owens, pretty jarring "verbal typo" but reporter likely isn't a track fan and just crammed information for this bit. At least Carl Lewis was mentioned after leading off with Mary Lou
For an Olympics to actually make profit and not lose money is amazing.

Los Angles lost the bid for 2024 Olympics against Paris but Los Angeles is going to host the 2028 Summer Olympics.

mary lou retton stole her medal with the help of the referees. and there was never a USA - USSR competition in gymnastics, because USA was never a force in that sport. there was romania, USSR, china - i'm speaking about feminine gymnastics. in '84, after 4 gold medals won by romania, the referees gave one to the USA, literally robbing romania's kathy szabo in the individual competition. romania was the only country in the eastern block who participated in '84 olympics, and they did it extremely well.

Wow. I can't believe how badly researched this article is. Where do I start. Success? Yes financially, but if you're saying Moscow was tarnished by a boycott. Of the 60 nations who boycotted Moscow, only five had won a gold medal in Montreal. 55 in total. However nine nations that struck gold in Montreal were missing in LA. Though again, their figures are miles off. The nine boycotting nations won 111 golds in Montreal, admittedly still double the boycott figure from Moscow. Also no idea what they were doing with TV in the United States for this to be their first colour Olympics. Mexico 1968 was broadcast in colour in Europe. I'd be surprised if it hadn't been in colour in the States too. And as for corporate sponsorship of major events? FIFA were making huge corporate profits from the World Cup as far back as 1966 so again, nowhere near the first major international event to make money from corporate sponsorship.
Hyper inflation in effect. The guest states the Montreal Olympics loses almost one billion dollars. A couple of minutes later the figure jumps yo 1.5 billion dollars!!!!!
How did the fail to mention the leadership of Peter Uberroth? He did a fantastic job of organizing the games for LA!

I was a driver volunteer at the L.A. 84 games one of the most well attended, profitable and successful games in the history of the Olympics. The first Olympics to rely heavily on non-paid volunteers, already built and refurbished sports venues. Two Olympic villages at USC and UCLA using existing dorms for the athletes. The 2028 games should be even better with the number of world class facilities built in So.Cal since then.
The '28 games will be epic, I' m sure about it. Can't wait to watch them here in Poland on a large TV screen.
Sportswise -- very boooooring games. Basically US athletes and some others. OK, China made its debut too.

The atmosphere in US is so toxic and disastrous already now, I don't wanna know whats gonna happen in the close future.
