    your video was very helpful. I am a visual / hands on learner, so I picked up on the various techniques used to create the movements. One of the more advanced movements seemed very complex until I worked it out in my to understand controller to handle it. You should make more videos like this one.

  • @StanWinstonSchool
    @StanWinstonSchool  11 лет назад +8

    It's possible, pokie4life. You'll need to rig some compounding system that turns a small move (your jaw opening & closing) into a large move, puppeteering the Pred Mandibles. - David

    @FraytaCentariHM 11 лет назад +3

    It would be nice to get a lesson for constructing character puppet suits, with a mindset in the suiter, controls everything.
    That and automating movement, like blinking without a controller.

    I'm looking into making a fursuit of sorts, but of a dragon. I've seen designs for tails with lower tech mechanisms, but something with this much control seems much better. However, this sort of thing seems like it would start to get really heavy when you have a 4-6 tail and good sized wings as well. Is it possible to have both of these with this much control, maybe a little less, and still be able to carry all that on one person, or am I dreaming?

    Is it possible to operate animatronics by using your jaw? I've had this idea to make a Predator head with operatable opening & closing mandibles, but no programming required. They would move by a series of pullies, elastics, and the pushing down of your jaw, so when yuo wore it, the mandibles would work by opening your mouth wide under the mask. When you closed your mouth, loose elastics would pull the mandibles back into place. If you get this, please tell me and give me tips maybe? Thanks! :D

  • @SavageInsight
    @SavageInsight 10 лет назад

    I wonder, is there a way to create an uninterrupted, multi-stage mechanism, particularly one with different movement speeds at its various stages? Some of those mechanisms look like they could be a great basis for a flexible animal spine like a young raccoon - I ask because I find much of today's amateur/hobby level robotics has a retro, alienating quality, yet something like a Raccoon has very fluid, if more basic movements compared to a human being, and I think there are clues in animatronic puppets

If Stan Winston was around he'd be very disappointed with how movie effects are now. Seriously Chuck E Cheese and theme park animatronics look better than the CGI Bullsh** movies use now!!

    That looks laborious. Lots of respect for the craftsmanship involved, but wouldn't some kind of computer-aided metal cutter speed up production time significantly?
    Or is it deliberately done this way to school students in these crafts?
    I know from my education that craftsmanship gives the artist the tools to express himself. R&D, tinkering, it's a great way to hone your skills, but when you're on a tight schedule and budget, priorities change.
    Just wondering.
